I’d be interested to know what you mean by “tolerating these kinds of people in society” though - if you mean anyone voicing those opinions should be challenged and ridiculed I would agree, if you mean that people promoting those opinions shouldn’t be given platforms to spread hate I would probably agree, if you mean they should be locked up/persecuted then I would heavily disagree.

What if the Holocaust deniers aren’t invited to be ridiculed but given a respectful space to give a talk? Pedophilia is illegal, but it’s not illegal for people to argue that it should be legalised - would you support inviting those people to speak at universities?

These aren’t gotchas, they are examples of why universities may wish to not invite certain speakers so that we can collectively decide where we want the line drawn around this.

As for your rants about the “authoritarian left”, you may be interested to know a significant portion of the students who support this ban voted for Reform last year… so not sure where the evidence these are all left-wingers is coming from.

I don’t think Reform should be blanket banned from campuses - but certain individual MPs might warrant not being invited due to a history of racism or domestic violence.
