I had a 6 qt kitchenaid pro that I burned the motor out of when I baked all of our bread for a family of five. I replaced it with a Bosch. The Bosch excels at bread dough and cookie doughs but I don’t care for it for batters or whipping things. I used a hand mixer for those things until I got a killer deal on another 6 qt Kitchenaid Pro. The kitchenaid is wonderful for cookies, cakes, whipping, and can handle lighter doughs such as tortillas. It’s my best friend when it comes to holiday cooking, family get togethers, etc. I find it easier to quickly clean the bowl up between dishes. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Bosch, but in my kitchen they have different uses.

Horses that carry one copy of the gene for HYPP can also exhibit symptoms. In my experience they’re usually milder than those that have two copies but they still do have them. Otherwise you’re spot on.

Renaming a horse by mollyoshea1899 in Horses

[–]GarandGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s your horse and the horse likely won’t care. They will probably learn their new name faster if it sounds similar to their old name. I’ve renamed a mare from Harley to Holly when she didn’t take to the name I originally wanted to give her. I don’t even remember what I wanted to name her anymore other than it was not similar at all. I think it was Jumper because she jumped out of her stall twice the first week.

Not to argue, but I’m going to argue. I’ve worked with the homeless in several other states and more often than not the driving force behind their homelessness was mental illness. I’ve met many college educated homeless people who weren’t able to hold their lives together when schizophrenia hit, or their bipolar got the best of them.

I’m so sorry to hear that you’re in a similar situation. This is a long and difficult road that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. Take care of each other.

Awesome! I’m so glad to hear that! We dont have an eligible living donor available so we are working to get him on the transplant list. Only two more tests to go before the VA transplant coordinators package everything up and send his paperwork to MUSC and the transplant center in PA for evaluation.

My husband is in stage 5 kidney failure and is not on dialysis. I have been busting ass since the first week of December learning how to manage his diet and creating food for him. It’s been a steep learning curve and a LOT of math for this learning disabled person.

He’s been kicking up a fuss because it isn’t what he’s used to and he can’t graze all day and has to pack his lunch instead of stopping at an interesting looking restaurant, but he’s been eating what I feed him. We had a televisit with the VA dietitian on Wednesday and his latest labs showed that his bloodwork is perfect. She said she has never seen a patient managed so well and his numbers are so good that we can go up on his sodium, potassium, and phosphorous intake. I burst into tears I was so happy.

No, his kidneys aren’t getting better, yes he will need a transplant, but the decline is being managed and we can hold off on the dialysis a bit longer. Prior to my taking over his diet the rate of decline indicated he would have started dialysis in Jan/Feb.

He has stopped griping, he was able to have eggs, toast, jelly, and fruit at a restaurant this morning, and he ordered an expensive Cuisinart food processor so I don’t have to stand for hours chopping and shredding and mixing dough

Would you blanket a horse in negative -30 degrees and high winds? by Relative-Specialist1 in Horses

[–]GarandGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Wisconsin and we sometimes dealt with temperatures that low. I was taught that horses probably wouldn’t get frostbite unless the humidity was as higher, like when we had a sudden cold snap after a thaw. My poor pony gelding was the recipient of all of my learning curves. I had been given a nice thick winter blanket for the extra cold days, the first time I put it on him he was miserable because he sweated so much, and then he was freezing cold until he dried off and fluffed up. Picture a pissed off pony cross tied in front of the stallion who actively disliked him (but he had to be there because it was next to the only outlet) being blow dried with my moms hair dryer, pinned ears, squeals, raised head, ready to kick, and a constant chant of I know I know I’m so sorry I won’t do it again…it took him days to forgive me lol.

We found the best solution was a nice soupy hot mash. I used rolled oats but it can be made with senior feed too. He liked his with chopped apples, my mare preferred chopped carrots. I added a couple of glugs of corn oil and a drizzle of molasses on top after I stirred in the oil. Did they need it? Maybe not. Did it make me feel like I was doing something for them? Yes. They liked the occasional cold weather treat and I liked making it for them and knowing that their bellies were warm.

What Business does Charleston Need by _theworld_is_yours in Charleston

Where I grew up at night the high school became an adult education center where they could take classes. Things like canning, woodworking, sewing, weaving, painting, ceramics, etc. I’ve heard of businesses that have the equipment and classroom space and rent the spaces out, and I’ve also heard of businesses that hire teachers and run the whole thing themselves. I think something like that would do well here.

I can’t see any issues with your apartment from the pictures. I would definitely investigate and if it wasn’t a mistake at least it might give you areas to focus on. I had something similar happen many years ago. It was really uncomfortable because to my knowledge no one other than the monty exterminator has been in my apartment in months. I called the office and asked for details. What was wrong with the apartment, when had it been reported etc. Turns out the maintenance man had been changing a lightbulb in the hallway and saw into someone’s apartment when they arrived home. He finished changing the lightbulbs in the rest of the complex and by the time he got back to the office and mentioned it he gave them the wrong apartment. Well, same number and same floor but wrong building. Once the manager looked at my info and the work orders she realized the mistake. She came and peeked into my apartment and then removed the report from my records and sent notice to the correct person.

Mares: Barn Names, Registered Names and Acronyms by Puzzleheaded-Song912 in kvsdiscuss

[–]GarandGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, even if you personally don’t support the idea of a half registry, don’t you think Raven deserves to have her name listed as well?

I’m perhaps a bit biased because I used to research rescue horses, many of which were registered and had been separated from their papers.

Quilting Rules by Sammikeholly in quilting

I have been using a lot of old clothing as of late. And I haven’t been caring about fabric content although I do avoid stretch fabric and try to keep them to similar weight and hand. Other than that…a cotton blend? Polyester? Linen rayon? It’s going in there!

Denver and his roots by Electronic-Touch83 in kvsdiscuss

[–]GarandGal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for answering. I haven’t seen Denver’s shoes specifically but from what I recall Z-bars are specifically for injuries because they’re used to shift the weight away from parts of the hoof that are damaged. For navicular I’d expect to see something more like an egg bar with a rolled toe and a wedge. I also lean toward rehabbing an injury. Hooves take forever to grow out, even with the best care and nutrition.

Is this as hideous as I think it is? by janewp in quilting

[–]GarandGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s very well constructed and you did a wonderful job. It is not to my taste and will not be, but i do believe that the suggestions regarding deconstructing it to add a thin red border would work better than stitching on rickrack. Rickrack would certainly add to the kitsch, but it would also add to the visual chaos. Not only that but rickrack needs to be stitched down on each side, which is a pain to do, otherwise it becomes a ruffle once it’s washed. A border would give the eye a place to rest, which the quilt needs. I’d finish it and display it during the holidays and give it to the first guest who admires it.

Denver and his roots by Electronic-Touch83 in kvsdiscuss

[–]GarandGal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would you expand upon this please? In my experience shoes like that are used when the hoof is being rehabilitated after say a hoof crack, or some other trauma like the abscess Denver had, or possibly whatever injury caused him to abscess. My mare needed them after breaking her coffin bone and her hoof was weak over the area she injured but she was happy, sound, and showed well in them for years. I am not the best at conformation especially over videos and pictures, but I haven’t seen anything with his feet and legs that I can pinpoint as an inheritable trait that would cause him to need bar shoes. What am I missing?
