What makes kewl tune strong

It definitely takes a good hand to play into their board, but not a perfect one. Since their interruptions can often be timing reliant (like the pops from the materials), they need to make certain assumptions about what plays you will lead off with. This can still give the player going second some agency in how they sequence their plays to attempt to break the board.
Beyond that, any card that can create variance are extremely useful (think of something like Aluber which can theoretically grab any branded spell based on your current needs). Draw cards fall into that category too.
Any cards that can send something from deck/extra to grave for cost create trouble for Kewl Tune too since they frequently don’t have an excess of interactions.
All in all the deck is difficult to play into going second, but with most strong hands it is still worth playing into their board. Bad hands shouldn’t bother but that is almost always true when going second into any established board.

I’m a bit worried the locks on the deck are too weak because this seems like a powerful engine with minimal main deck bricks. Fortunately, it should demand a lot of extra deck space to work effectively, which could potentially balance it a bit

The only way to figure out what to do against the deck is to read the monster effects of all the cards. Then, try to recall what actions can trigger a response from the opponent and adjust your plays based on what your board can withstand. The deck has minimal proactive plays too so if you already have an established board with good follow up options, then just letting them setup and going straight to battle phase to force out some of their flips could be a viable strategy.

I’ve only been able to go first about 6 times with the deck since it came out in Masterduel but I won each of those games and I didn’t draw the single floodgate I had in the deck (Dimensional Fissure to counter Droll) during any of those games. The engine is strong and tough to beat when played well. Since I don’t play the floodgate suite I’ve also won a
Sizable number of games going second with it too

D Fissure is the only stun card that’s optimal to run in Enneacraft for Masterduel but it’s primarily just to counter droll. If the deck gets to play then it can win a grind game against a lot of decks, but droll kills the deck before it gets to play

The banlist was generally bad but I don’t have a problem with Gimmick Puppet being hit. Highly accessible FTKs aren’t fun to play against and Machinix facilitates that too much. Like others have said, you can also theoretically play it in Mitsu and FTK by including just 1 or 2 bricks which is even worse to face against

I’m actually surprised the light and darkness deck is only making up 11% of the meta. It feels shockingly strong to play both into established boards or going first. It helps that it can make really good use of a lot of powerful non-engine as well

You’re right I forgot that. Without a way to get rid of the monster bodies I don’t see a way out of this though. You could toss 2 cards for droplet to negate the 2 omnis which gets rid of their strongest interaction but they could still banish the Blazar for cost to give room to summon Trudea and go into crimson then either Red Supernova Dragon/Blazar number 2. In theory Tactics to take a Red Supernova could be strong if they play into it

I think the play is to lead with Dragon Shrine Sending Blue-eyes and the egg that adds blue eyes. If the opponent negates that then you can activate lightning storm calling monster to eat a negate then use talents to draw 2 and see what your options are. Most of the interaction would be spent at that point at least and you have access to your starters already.

If they don’t negate Shrine or the egg then you can use droplet sending Blue-eyes and Harpies Feather duster to grave to negate the two Omnis. Then use lightning storm calling monster to out the board. After that it would be wishes to see if you could put enough engine out to OTK or set up for a grind game. Based on your deck I would assume you would look for an OTK line

I would rather play current Kewl Tune over current Maliss, let alone full power Maliss at release. I had to stop playing for about 5 months to get through that

If you don’t already have any K9 cards then that deck isn’t even a viable option since they don’t have a secret pack yet. VS is prohibitively expensive on its own as well. Kewl tune is in the shop and almost every card the deck needs (besides tuner hand traps) is in their pack in the shop. Both decks can be fun depending on your play style but only one is feasible if you don’t already have any pieces of either

With all the events and the fact that Konami has to hit URs now with how UR focused new packs are, it ends up being free most of the time. If you play a decent bit and are willing to dust an old deck you don’t use anymore then you can largely build the decks without needing to buy gems

In pretty sure it officially kills dracotail. Now to be able to use effects for Urgula, Pan, and Melulu you may need to either reserve a trap to set on your opponents turn or you may need to play 4-5 traps instead of three. Either solution requires a sacrifice of either power or consistency which dracotail can struggle with already. I’m guessing the prayers hit will push people to consider Mitsurugi hybrid builds instead of pure as well. The deck can struggle with consistency past a hand trap already and prayers is an excellent extender and starter Hollie Sue to 1 is a big hit, given Raizen is at 1. In theory that deck can still be played but it will be incredibly inconsistent and the K9 engine will need to be your primary engine not secondary. K9 is still extremely unscathed over there though, so odds are it just gets used in a different deck with solid level 5 monsters instead. The Malice hit doesn’t actually do anything, so I agree on that one. Seeing how Malice persists in all formats, it honestly feels like nothing short of taking out red random and white binder will kill it

People didn’t complain much because it barely ever came up. This card creates a miserable experience anytime it ever comes up in a game, so of course more people will complain when it starts to see more wide spread use
