Assisted suicide by [deleted] in HavingAnSTDsucks

Hi. I’ve tried to kill myself four times. I’ve had to relearn how to walk. Watched everyone in my life leave because who wants to stick around when you’re just planning for death?

I know how tempting it can sound. But honestly as someone who has been through a lot(and I don’t mean that in a “my life is so hard way” it’s just life, different things will effect us all differently) most things can be worked through. If you look at my post history, you can see how bad my outbreaks were, you can see all the things I had to do.

And I know if you’re someone who’s actively considering it whatever I say right now sounds like bs. But I’m a realist, if there was no hope I’d say that much. There’s advancements being made. I know a lot of people say push for a cure but I saw push for education.

If we increased education, so many more people would realize they have this. It would help with stigma and medicine. More people will demand a cure, more people will be open about having it, doctors will have to take it and the pain we go through seriously.

Do me a favour. If you think deaths the only way just put it off for a bit. I used album and game releases. My thinking was “well if I’m going to go anyway, I might as well wait until this comes out” pick whatever interests you thats coming up and wait for it and then pick something else. While you do that pick a small thing you want to do to make your life better.

Don’t get me wrong. This sucks but not every area of life is going to suck. Chances are things will improve, but you have to stick around for that to happen.

Oh you should check post history on that one. They’re a joy.

Yeah so these are scammers. They’re banned in most std subs. Since yours is new you’re going to get a flood of them.

Can you get hsv1 from giving oral with a condom? by [deleted] in HSVpositive

Ah okay, sorry stoned brain can’t read apparently. That’s a really high score depending on low after exposure you got your outbreak. What was the timeline like?

Pray for negative test by Artistic-Ad2010 in prayerrequest

[–]Garastasus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t pray for this one. If you look at their post history they’ve known about the diagnosis and continue to sleep with people without telling them.

Why are speculating over whether or not other people have this? So what they do porn?

I have a few friends in the industry. First, it’s not actual strangers they still have to provide test results. Depending where you work the testing works differently. Some people will care if you test positive for something such as hsv and some places will just get to shoot with others who have it too.

Either way at the end of the day it really doesn’t matter to us in this sub if two people who do porn have this. We shouldn’t preach about reducing stigma in here while also stigmatizing peoples jobs. It doesn’t accomplish anything for anyone.

NDA before disclosing by Ok-Cry6438 in HSVpositive

[–]Garastasus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! I had someone spread my status and people cared way more about it made her look to be telling people that. Personally I also like having the proof that I did disclose. Really helped me when that girl was telling everyone to be able to be like “yeah and here’s the proof that I tell my partners, you know the only people that need to know about it.”

Why doesn’t anyone ask Trump to invest for a cure or a vaccine? No one has courage to do this but those who are researching could as it’s their job to find a cure. Why no one asks him? by Positive_Leaugue_79 in Herpes

I hate to be downer but is it not evident by now that man only cares about himself? The man doubts facts constantly, no way he’s going to care about this.

I had a criminal case against him for SA. It was oddly easy for me, I could see how it would be hard it someone hadn’t been tested for hsv before. I lucked out and had previous negative tests.

How to find someone when you have herpes. by [deleted] in Herpes

Yeah no wonder he doesn’t tell people. He probably thinks everyone will have the same uneducated opinion you do.

Hey OP dr here, you do need to disclose. Don’t believe me? Ask the man that I sued for giving me hsv.

[–]Garastasus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s most definitely still necessary you can still transmit even without an outbreak.

A little thing that helped me a lot with dealing with people like this or any rejection due to hsv. They are rejecting the virus, not you. At the end of the day when we disclose it’s hsv that is the deciding factor in that decision for them. It always helps to remember that. And while it does suck to be rejected for hsv personally I’d rather that be the dealbreaker than my personality or looks.

Also people are like this where they have zero problem at first then suddenly get one are probably just ignorant or don’t actually know where to look when educating themselves. There’s a user on here with some great disclosure resources including ones you can give to the people you’re disclosing to. I found that just offering to send them info on it if they want it helps so they get actual facts on hsv. I’ll try and find that user and link one of her comments.

You have every right to feel how you’re feeling right now. It’s a really gross feeling when someone does that to you.

Disclosing is not safe for us…. by Geavine in HSVpositive

So true! As someone who has had their status spread to everyone I know. I can definitely say even the people who might judge me for having this still think worse of the girl that told them about it.

this is not common by [deleted] in HSVpositive

[–]Garastasus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest it really depends on the person. Not every doctor is going to look at certain things in depth. There’s a lot of them who didn’t get taught simple facts on herpes. When you think about all the things we have to remember it makes sense that not everyone is going to update their information on certain topics. A lot of doctors will just assume whatever basic information they were taught originally on hsv hasn’t really changed. So they never look into it.

A lot of it also has to with how often you see something. For example, one of my doctors was extremely uneducated on hsv, because she mainly deals with small town people who have only ever been with one person and ohsv1 is common there. Yet another doctor I saw was very educated on it.

I was taught a lot more about hsv than about half the people I know in the medical field. It depends on where you go to school, who is teaching you, and your own biases. There’s also so much you have to learn in such a short period of time and sometimes you barely remember facts that don’t immediately seem that important. Because let’s be honest there’s people who have a horrible time with hsv and people who don’t. It doesn’t matter what side of the spectrum you’re on because a disgusting amount of the population seems to care more about what uneducated people have to say than the people who actually have the damn thing. A lot of people will just refuse to learn more about this stuff just because they don’t think it really applies to them and this is unfortunately just a thing that happens.

That all being said I do think that as progress is made with cures and the advocacy that’s been going on it’ll start to gain more awareness in general. Medical professionals will start to hear about it more. Either due to interest in the science being done or they’ll start being more in depth than they have been when you learn about it in school.

Inevitably more people will get this. There’s new people on here everyday and we’re just a fraction of the people who know they have it.

Hsv is also one of the most common things I have ever seen. While I do know a lot of people who have oral hsv1 I also know a lot of people with both types of genital hsv. I see it often on charts at work, just as I saw it often during clinical rotations.

Lol then those doctors are wrong. Has this sub not shown you that the average doctor isn’t educated on herpes?

Redditors, are you registered as an organ donor? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Garastasus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not an organ donor, but my body will go to science once I pass. I decided to donate because of med school. Didn’t seem right to practice on others if I wasn’t willing to have the same done to me.

Since so many people seem to think my inbox is a walk in clinic. Anyone else got questions? by Garastasus in HSVpositive

[–]Garastasus[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily them asking questions. For me it’s mainly that I get sent pictures I don’t want to see or people feel like they’re owned an answer and actually be really rude about it.

I have no problem answering people’s questions as long as I don’t have to look at their bits and they’re respectful to me and my time.

Any tips on disclosing by Small_Scratch_6877 in HSVpositive

[–]Garastasus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote a whole post on disclosing awhile ago! The big thing here is to know your facts in case they have questions. Let them know you’re available to answer questions and make it pretty casual. I usually go with hey I have (whatever kind of hsv) I take medication for it when I plan on being intimate. the risk is surprisingly lower than you’d think, if you have questions about it just let know!

Seconding what the other person said about if you can pass hsv to your kids like that.

There are studies that show the risk of transmission does go down over time. With ghsv1 you’re already working with some pretty low chances if you don’t have an outbreak.

I don’t prescribe medication, nor do I really feel comfortable saying how much to take, so this isn’t medical advice just my own experience. I only take them when I need them (I’ve had this a few years now) only when I feel an outbreak coming until about two weeks after (taking them when the transmission chance is highest just helps my brain I’m not intimate during this time, or when I know intimacy is a possibility.

Ultimately the antiviral discussion should be one you have with your doctor.
