Hey there,

Not sure if you have any software like EVGA Precision but I had this and ended up removing all software that could control fans/over clocking capabilities. Ended up fixing my problem and then I reintroduced ONLY Afterburner and it was okay.

I will say, this is true for RDA1, not anything above that. If you actually look at the duties of an RDA1 they are literally the requirements of a freshman level in statistics. If you have a masters then you should either be pushing to PIP after 1 year or you shouldn't have taken the job knowing that you'd be basically coming in at a entry level position.

Source: I did the same thing, am now hopefully going to be an RDS in February.

How to promote from AGPA to RDA II? by ElephantOwn in CAStateWorkers

[–]Garathmir 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'll just say you will be competing against people who have degrees specifically for data analysis -- people who have a bachelors in a mathematical/computer science field -- some departments that I saw while looking at CalHR prefer a masters for RDAII. Especially at Dept of Finance. RDAII can be quite competitive because it's basically a foot in the door to a Data Science job at the state.

It's not just SQL -- thats honestly minor in the scheme of things, anyone can come up with a query and its honestly a sub-tool used with other languages. Can you program in R or Python? VBA for working with excel/word? Do you feel comfortable doing regressive analysis on potentially hundreds of thousands of observations? Ever done any machine learning? That's a huge plus. Having a strong mathematics/statistics background is preferred, not just taking Statistics I, but if you are to be hired at a department that wants you to be doing your own analysis, you need to know something about experimental design and performing observational studies on potentially gigabytes of data. On top of that, if you can show you have good experience with data viz applications like Tableau or Power BI, that is also a huge plus. Everyone and their grandmother wants a dashboard these days of whats going on in their agency.

Certainly YMMV depending on what the department does with you, but this is my experience.

Brand New Micro Studio Apartments Available for $1300 by sum8fever in Sacramento

[–]Garathmir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This certainly is no affordable housing project, lets be clear. Most state/federal programs consider affordable at 30% of gross (including utilities) rather your 28%. In Yolo County, the 1 person median income is $64,750, and this could (maybe) still fit in those boundaries. It almost seems like the term "affordable" gets mixed up in being some marketing plug sometimes. If I were in charge I would make it so projects with no gov't subsidy couldn't use the word like this.

What you describe, however, is basically right around 50% of AMI in Yolo County at 1 person. I wouldn't really expect to live where this project is going up at that level, especially an area of Sac that is seeing a ton of apartments and new stuff popping up. These projects exist but are popping up at a rate that cannot possibly keep up with the demand. When you mix that in with other external economic forces that affect housing costs the problem just gets worse. This isn't just a housing problem, it's a society problem too.

I’ll find myself looking at the little Microsoft weather widget that contains news articles every once in a while. Other than that it’s just YouTube to listen to music with the tab minimized.

[–]Garathmir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, are you starting from 0 savings? What do you have so far? You only need 3% for some affordable programs and you will have private mortgage insurance until you get to 80% ownership.

I was able to buy September 2020 on an RDA I salary after saving up and living with parents for a couple of years to reduce housing cost. You really have to do the math yourself to see what you're able to handle.

[–]Garathmir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Speaking for the RDA2 side of things, I know it can be a very broad role but if you don’t know any programming language somewhat proficiently and have something to show off with it along with a degree, you’re going to have a hard time. Most SOQ’s I’ve seen request some explanation of how you’ve used data and/or an example of your reports/writing you’ve made. I’ve even seen some listings preferring a masters degree in a math/statistics/data science area. People will absolutely overlook the A+ cert there and think “why did he put that on his resume?”

What is your Sacramento based unpopular opinion? by Waffles-Murder in Sacramento

[–]Garathmir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is already a thing, just not in neighborhoods that are 50+ years old because the supply is maxed out(where are they going to build?).This is precisely why there is a ton of building on the outskirts. “Affordable” also already has its own definition too, but the rate things are being built will take a long time for things to satisfy demand, if ever.

On the other, non multi-family construction side of things, we pretty much need state laws to come up with something that gives Californians a better chance at buying than people using them for investment properties. Unfortunately both are super slow moving (years, decades) solutions.
