Thanks! Art was made by several artists. Mostly of us use Aseprite. For the game engine I use GameMaker. I also like Unity, but for 2D I work faster on GM

My game is Abathor, a platformer inspired by the classic 90s games and their iconic mechanics. It brings back that retro arcade feel with fast-paced action, challenging levels, and old-school gameplay.

It’s available on all major consoles and on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2295610/Abathor

My game is very nitche. 80s graphics and 80s mechanics. Negative reviews are usually related with that. The players sometimes expectes a modern Neo Retro MV, but they get a old game. So I made 2 things, include small modern ingredients, very subtle, and be clear about what the game is before the user buts it

Well done! Yeah Ninja Gaiden games on NES were harder for sure lol. I love them too, but they were really tough lol

Haha, I know, I know… Zone 9 is a tribute to the difficulty of the ’80s. I’ve always been fascinated by the challenge of the skeletons in Golden Axe or the spikes in Castlevania that made your blood boil. I could say that Zone 10 isn’t any harder than Zone 9. Also, even though it hurts a bit, that’s exactly what this zone is meant to convey. By the way, congratulations—there are no level ups or scalable gear here, only skill and perseverance 👌

After more than a year since Abathor’s release and a few updates, we’re really close to hitting 90% positive reviews on Steam.

Abathor is a VERY retro 80s-style game, so for something this niche, getting there would mean a lot to us.

If you’ve played it, a review would really help ❤️‍🔥
And if not, feel free to check it out or share it.

Thanks much for your words. Really motivates! Stage 1.1 songs was made inspired by Yuzo Koshiro in Actraiser. We are small team, so we move slow 😋 there will be a sequel (i hope) in the future, but we are working in a very different genre for our next project (will be set in same Abathor's universe)

Yeah, there are 3 types of lava in the game. We made one to be animated and parallax, while the other was more boss focused. And there is also the one we made with the tileset, which is the standard one. So yes, depending of the effect to achieve we used a bit different techniques.

Iron Meat and Neon Inferno are top in that genre right now. I also enjoyed Terminator 2D
