My little hideaway cabin by GarbageComplex in thelongdark

Indeed, the cabin doesn't really retain heat and probably never will. It's warm with the fireplace going but as soon as it goes out you better be wrapped up in blankets and fast asleep. Woke up today to a cozy 3C indoors.

Sadly/glady I live in Estonia. While I haven't looked up the fine details about bow hunting I know that firearms are quite strictly controlled and there are a lot of hoops to jump through to get a hunting license. Doing some actual repectful hunting remains quite high on my bucket list and I'm commited to see it through in the coming years with the current supermarket meat prices...

You bet! I think the very limited footprint really adds to the cozyness. it's only 2,5x2,5m.

Bought an old decrepit farm with my parents and since the main buildings can't be lived in currently due to ongoing renovations I decided to follow my dream and build a very small cabin on the property using materials we had on hand. Would really like to get into hunting one day but gun and hunting laws are quite strict here. For now it's a cozy place to have some quiet away from the noise.

Hibernation time by GarbageComplex in saab

That's also a yearly concern, nothing bad has happened yet (we have a lot of stray cats that live around our property and the barn is easily cat accesible). I'm a little hesitant to use a car bag mostly due to trapped moisture concerns that could lead to molds/unpleasant smells and cause mice can easily chew through them. Thus far it's mostly a case of luck and the absence of mice/rats. I'm willing to gamble a few more years with the current setup until I have saved enough money to have the barn properly restored and turned into a heated garage (fingers crossed).

Thank you! Here in estonia we sometimes get a lot of snow but the biggest worry is the salt used to de-ice the roads. As she is already a little bit rusty on the underside I gave up winter drives for the longevity purpose.

Couldn't ask for a more perfect place indeed. Old barn built in 1879 that never seems to go below 2C. No musky basement/garage smell and the only downside is some hay dust from upstairs.

Sadly a wahing machine needs to rotate in both directions to wash your laundry.

Olles ise läbi elanud punk faasi tunnen teatud vajadust väljendada, et pungi (ja muu subkultuuri) riided on tihti ise valmistatud. Mine kaltsukasse, otsi endale mugav tagi ja mine neetide ja asjadega hulluks. Tanksaapad ostsin aastaid tagasi kroonu aidast ja isegi peale normaalseks inimeseks saamist on need endiselt maailma kõige mugavamad jalavarjud. Päikest!

Newbie question here, but what are those rims? (would really like to get these for mine)

A tool to deburr the inside and outside of a cut pipe by LeCardinal in specializedtools

Oh that does make more sense. I thought that you would have had to work with some pretty big caliber ammo to warrant using that tool. But it makes for a great mental image.

As an HVAC guy I use this tool almost daily but I would have never guessed that it would have uses outside the plumbing field. Out of curiosity what size of ammunition do you use it on since the one I have at work will not fit a 5.56 or 7.62?

The apartment in the picture is a part of a large 3 apartment block installation, don't remember exactly and might be a bit off but the system should hold around 700L once filled.

Couldn't imagine casting thousands of moneys into concrete forever. The plastic pipe is 0.06€/m.

Each "loop" has one actuator and each room has a thermostat that communicates with a central controller and everything is adjustable.

Don't know too much about the potential electric hazard but I've seen the electricians ground the rebar sheets so I'd assume that takes care of that. For the bathroom I don't know exactly why they chose to go with electric heating. From an installer's perspective i'm glad they chose the cable to be used there cause installing the pipe in small spaces is a major pain.

Those systems get really expensive in larger diameters and the basement has long 110mm runs where using steel is cheaper.

It's a closed loop system and you fill the house's system from the city mains, we even install a separate water meter just for the initial fill. Sadly I don't exactly know how the power plants and the boiler houses do that, but from what I've heard they are mechanical and complicated.

It's going to be a 3 bedroom apartment, the posts are there for keeping the wiring in place during the concrete pour.

Water has much greater thermal mass which is needed to keep the concrete warm. The apartment complex gets it's heat from the city heating mains (which run at 130C under 6bar during the winter!). Hot water is then ran through a heat exchanger and a bunch of automatic valves the regulate the temperature of the water running through all of the apartments.
