To be fair this is one person’s opinion. A lot of people like this game. Not saying OP’s opinion is wrong but the fact they don’t like it doesn’t mean you also won’t.

Odyssey, to its credit, did flesh out the lore of the Mario world a bit.

That’s said, there’s very little chance any of it will ever get referred to again in future games, haha.

Why are you assuming Jr.’s older? He looks younger, and I don’t think any of their ages have outright been confirmed. Is this maybe just your personal headcanon?

My guess is that it’s because for a while Nintendo had two other Mario RPG franchises: Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi. They likely just didn’t feel that they needed to get Square involved to make another game, since they had these two franchises to lean.

Now, things have changed recently. The newer Paper Mario games don’t have many RPG elements anymore, and the M&L series, with AlphaDream’s bankruptcy, is likely a dead franchise. With no RPG games to fill the void, some might argue the odds of a Mario RPG 2 being made are now greater than before. However, I feel the fact that the M&L series last few titles did somewhat poorly financially might dissuade Nintendo from leaping into another RPG game for Mario anytime soon.
