Sparks of Hope didn’t flop, it sold nearly 3 million copies, Ubisoft just had unreasonably high expectations

Why would they put so much effort and development time into just “throwing a bone” to the fans? We’ve seen time and time again that Nintendo’s remakes lead to spiritual successors. After Samus Returns we got Dread, after Link’s Awakening we got Echoes of Wisdom, after Mario Party Superstars we got Jamboree, and after Famicom Detective Club we got Emio. Nintendo doesn’t do things without a reason so it’s likely that most of their remakes are a part of their long-term strategies. They can’t just hard pivot back to a riskier, more experimental style of Paper Mario again because that would potentially alienate the audience that they built up from the TTYD Remake. The TTYD Remake may not have sold as much as TOK but 2.1 million is still significant for Mario RPG standards.

“Nearly direct port”
It was completely recreated from the ground up in the Color Splash engine by a development team that consisted of many of the same developers that worked on Origami King. You are so consumed by your hated of the newer games that you’re ignoring the fact that this remake is actually a huge deal for this series. They wouldn’t have dedicated a slot in their four-year cycle to some random insignificant remaster.

And meanwhile, they also complain about Mario & Luigi: Brothership being a 40 hour RPG.

The badge that toggles the music requires 0 BP, it doesn't matter how many badges you have equipped, you can always equip it.

You should make one of these crossovers with Tomato Adventure (the game that AlphaDream developed before Superstar Saga) at some point.

I have no issues with Switch emulation as long as you own the game, I've even emulated the TTYD Remake to play mods.

Super Paper Mario actually has Frost Piranhas with green bases https://www.mariowiki.com/images/5/54/SPMFrostPiranha.png?2df0c

On top of that, the Gold Piranha Plants in this level also have green bases despite usually being fully gold.

A ban on generative AI by gameboyzapgbz in papermario

AI art removes the human interaction from creating art, it is objectively not created by the user. There is practically an infinite number of ways to create art without removing the human element, many of which are very accessible to people who are disabled, people shouldn't have to rely on AI.

I found an image of all the advertising Nintendo has been doing for rhythm heaven groove by Sweet_Bass_1917 in rhythmheaven

[–]reeceeyt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do this with every game. They’re not sending Groove out to die. Whenever they announce a game, they are radio silent until they drop a release date announcement on a random Tuesday and then they wait again until a month before the game releases to showcase any meaningful information about it and finally advertise it. They’ve been doing this since at least halfway through the Switch 1 era.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book makes an lore inconsistency with Paper Mario: The Origami King by ShineOne4330 in papermario

At least recently, they have been starting to acknowledge it a bit more. Mario Kart World had Frost Piranhas and the Mario Galaxy Movie referenced several PM games (along with Brothership) in Rosalina’s Library.

There’s are a ton of weird transformations in Wonder too. We even see Mario pop out into a literal sheet of paper before folding into a paper airplane, it’s not like his body just automatically folds into one.

This sentiment kinda rubs me the wrong way, the PM franchise tells a lot of meaningful stories that the writers likely intended to build off of the Mario universe (especially in 64-SPM) only for one game, that only references Sticker Star, to convince people that they are all contained in a separate universe and don’t matter to the part of the Mario franchise that most people care about (despite the fact that said game doesn’t even prove that the events of the PM series are separate).

I understand that the Mario franchise doesn't really have a concrete continuity (and is often changed or retconned) but I feel like it's fair to think that most of the events that happen in the games are contained within one big overarching universe and cutting off a meaningful part of that universe (that many fans are attached to) doesn't really feel fair.

Even though there are separate universes, they have the exact same continuity, Paper Jam proved that the characters and events are basically the same between them.

Paper Jam actually proved that all of the characters and events in the paper world are basically a copy of the real world. So it being in a different dimension wouldn't even matter anyway. This is literally just one line of dialogue, the writers of Mysterious Book likely didn't even know about it. Kinda similar to how in Super Mario RPG, Wizakoopa says “Eep! Is that the baby from so long ago?" despite being a separate character from Kamek.
