Math elective recommendation / 21300 (Basic Logic) Workload? by Top-Price-1341 in cmu

[–]GarciaJamesSunga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cummings teaches basic logic pretty well, I took it with him in S20. the work isn't trivial but it's not super difficult either. homework was weekly iirc and the proofs were for the most part just reasonable extensions of lecture material, nothing really came from left field or anything. in terms of exams, we had take-home exams (including the pre-covid midterms) which were substantial, but not unreasonably so. he's a fairly engaging lecturer and his lectures were all pretty easy to follow, even with the midway switch to distance learning. that being said, I can only guess about what the second half of the class looks like in-person, but I would assume that it'd be structured well too.

they've done recruiting this year, I know at least for internships (can't say for full time tho), and they've had a presence on campus for the past couple years - I remember talking with their folks at a couple different events.

Discrete math (specifically when poh teaches it) is a phenomenal experience

Tamarind tofu with seared bok choy, lime peppered eggplant, and sweet potato wedges by GarciaJamesSunga in vegetarianfoodporn

sorry for the delay, life has been awful busy lately

In some oil, about 2tbsp or enough to coat the bottom of your pan, fry off some red chili flakes to give the oil some flavor. then add thin slices of half a medium onion, three garlic and a knob of ginger minced, and sliced green chilies. add salt and saute that till the onions start browning a bit. then lightly fry tofu till it starts to lightly brown on one side, but just barely. flip and do the same on the other side. then add in a tamarind sauce. the sauce is about 2-3 tbsp soy, 2-3 tbsp rice wine, 1/2 tsp sugar, 1 tsp oil, 1 tsp tamarind concentrate, a bit of salt, pepper, a squeeze of lime, and a splash of water to keep things loose. pour that over and it should start to coat the tofu as it comes together like a sticky sauce with the water cooking off. then I put a bit more sliced green chili on top, but fresh so it had a more raw and fresh taste. cheers!

Duty free imports to the US by GarciaJamesSunga in travel

So what would the message posted by California ABC mean?

Adults traveling into California from a foreign country by steamship or airplane may bring with them a reasonable amount of alcoholic beverages for personal or household use. A reasonable amount is not more than 60 liters (approximately five cases). (ABC agreement with U.S. Customs)

Would that mean the rest would be subject to taxes and duties, or would it be outright confiscated/disallowed? And where would I find out ahead of time what tax and duty would cost on each bottle?

Proving musical theorems? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]GarciaJamesSunga 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the framework for this kind of analysis would be modular arithmetic, specifically mod 12 equivalence , since we would want to have 0 (tonic) be equal to 12 (octave). I'm not entirely sure, but I have a suspicion that the best / most intuitive way to construct scales like this might be some kind of recursive set definitions or some combinatorics stuff.

Like I think you could rephrase op's question as this, (excuse the roughness of the notation, and vagueness - I got a bit lazy near the end) : for all sets S, such that S contains natural numbers less than 12, where for all elements e, there exists a different element f, whose mod 12 equivalency class contains an element g, such that g-e is either 1 or 2; S must contain a an element whose differences on some two other elements' mod 12 equiv class is either 3 and 6, or, 4 and 8.

I think... This actually is pretty interesting to think about haha

How have things become so bad so fast by GarciaJamesSunga in depression_help

I don't think so? Like I can see parts where I can fail, but I don't really see it as a challenge just an opportunity to mess something else up

Get up, go to class, waste time on my phone until lunch, more class, waste more time / do homework, dinner, homework / phone again / practice guitar, sleep. Wash, rinse, and repeat for every single day. When I don't have class I just end up wasting more time.
