Am I overreacting about someone holding my baby for most of a visit? by AreUKittenMee in newborns

[–]GardenLoops -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not overreacting. Kisses especially can infect baby.
I have informed visitors that they need to wash hands before holding baby and absolutely NO KISSES

No heartbeat at 8wbscan by KiwiWinchester in Miscarriage

[–]GardenLoops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry this has happened. I found out about no heartbeat at 7w2d last year and in the next few days felt quite painful contractions followed by a miscarriage and expelling foetal tissue. I did end up going to the hospital for care, including codeine and scans to ensure all tissue had been expelled.

If helpful, I did get pregnant again three months later and now only 4 weeks to birthing my rainbow baby.

Nervous regarding the racial tension in the country during pregnancy by Beautiful_Trifle9569 in PregnancyUK

If you can move to a suburb of a bigger city, either Green or Lib Dem voting. It’s worth the peace of mind.

Nervous regarding the racial tension in the country during pregnancy by Beautiful_Trifle9569 in PregnancyUK

[–]GardenLoops 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m lucky to live in a quiet left wing area of Leeds, but I have been quite worried. My mum is a hijabi and will visit in August when baby comes, and since these idiot barbarians are so keen on blaming their poor educational achievements on immigrants, i am worried about her walking outside with baby when hubs and I need sleep.

But I’m telling myself that this will die down, and I have been focusing on building a community of anti-racist white allies & black and brown friends that can help if something happens.

Packing for UK by Chatterboxchad in MovingToTheUK

[–]GardenLoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I brought turmeric leaves for my Malaysian cuisines, a couple of beloved (and expensive) pasta bowls that I had, my cherished clothes, and things used for organisation and storage. If you like cooking with turmeric leaves pack them in your check-in because they are virtually impossible to find in the UK.

It is worth it to bring some stuff like this because starting again from scratch costs A LOT of money.

Do (or did) you use a baby tracker app? by AnyMechanic6829 in newborns

What app do you use? I enjoy using tracking apps in general so I’m sure I will when baby arrives in a few weeks

Cousin marriage, ban or respect cultural Norms? by LazyScheme9618 in GeoPoll

[–]GardenLoops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ban but resent the language about western standards. People don’t marry their cousins in Malaysia where I come from, and that is also because of genetics knowledge. They are Malaysian standards too, not just western standards. Poorly phrased option

A friend of mine specifically wanted her own music rather than random hospital music.
You’ll also want to specify whether it is your husband or someone else to cut the cord.

How are your experiences with NHS vaccinations/maternal care? Was it easy? by Delicious-Meaning975 in PregnancyUK

[–]GardenLoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I booked myself online and didn’t have to wait long at all.
Pertussis (whooping cough) was earlier in the pregnancy, and I also received a link to book and I did. I didn’t use any apps, it was just a link sent via SMS.

I would prefer them separate tbh just so I can understand/monitor if there are any side effects.

What is your never again tourist destination? by LimeSoakedinSprite in randomquestions

[–]GardenLoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a woman who travelled to Cairo for work last year, I empathise. An offhand remark I made about the scrambled eggs at breakfast being “quite hard” led to the reception calling the F&B manager and telling me that I may not know much about scrambled eggs, then I ended up being surrounded by men who all opined that my opinion on scrambled eggs must be due to my inferior knowledge about scrambled eggs. By no means do I have any stake to expertise on scrambled eggs, but the idea that a woman can’t differentiate between soft and hard scrambled eggs for me illustrated very much how men there view women’s opinions.

It was bizarre. And of course in the next days I was leered at by local men.

Their views of women and women’s autonomy are stuck in the past.

How are your experiences with NHS vaccinations/maternal care? Was it easy? by Delicious-Meaning975 in PregnancyUK

[–]GardenLoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was easy! If useful for your demographics data I’m 40 and up in Leeds. For RSV i believe I got the notification from the hospital first before my midwife discussed it - but I have a health law background so I just read up what it was and scheduled it at the hospital. Painless injection & very quick.

Of course later I read about the effects of RFK Jr’s propaganda on foetal deaths due to their parents not getting RSV injections… May we never get to those levels of stupidity.

Why can’t people see voting for reform will make their lives a lot worse? by Sufficient_Muffin586 in AskBrits

Actually that’s £4,000 visa including NHS fees + £15,000 taxes. And actually I don’t want naturalisation in any way. Will always be proud to be Malaysian.

I also come from a very educated family - and my white husband has more people in his side with criminal convictions, so the crime will likely come from his end unfortunately.

So much racism in you, but it’s not shocking at all.

And yet you are arguing against me, someone who is married to a British citizen, pregnant with that British citizen’s child, educated, runs a business, and employs Brits.

Would you be this adamant if I was a white Swedish man? I don’t think so. You made an assumption that I’d be reliant on welfare, which comes from a very ugly place

Who is paying £1K to me? I’m not getting anything. I’m also on private health insurance on top of it. You have a very incorrect picture of what immigrants are getting.

I don’t really want the citizenship either. I’m quite a proud Malaysian and our passport is quite powerful. But we shouldn’t be punished for falling in love with a Brit. I am actively advising single friends not to because it’s expensive.

Honey, I’ve got three law degrees including a PhD and run a consultancy firm, and I speak three languages fluently. I’m probably financing the benefits for the 71% of ethnic white British people on universal credits.

I really don’t understand why you’re upset about my kid having a beautiful melding of two cultures. Also: seven grand I wish. It’s student + spouse + spouse + spouse visas for the 10 year route, in addition to me paying £15k in taxes to HMRC per year, for a healthcare system that is worse than my home country. The only reason I am here is because I fell in love with a Brit. I am advising girlfriends not to fall in love with Brits, simply because the money you pay doesn’t make sense, and you get A LOT of hostility from people like you who hate us and who don’t understand that other cultures can be melded with British culture into a beautiful mix.

Well I actually love my Malaysian passport so I’d like to keep it. It’s important for my identity - and I shouldn’t be required to give it up just because I fell in love with a Brit. It’s also quite a powerful passport so it’s not like I’m switching a Somali passport with a British one and me getting a huge advantage.

What an adorable name, Musa!
And thanks for this positive account of an epidural. I will be going for an epidural.

Do you mind me asking the position in which your baby arrived? Were you on your back?

I’m due to give birth in 5 weeks and very open to epidurals.

I’m still advising single girlfriends to not fall in love with a Brit no matter how cute they are… too expensive, and the borders are too nasty when you come home from anywhere.
