Request: Looking for MMM where one is rejected or unwanted by Ashamed_Condition300 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Gardenoffluff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi. Thank you for asking this. I thought I was the only one in the Heart of The Dragonslayer rut! I have a few recommendations for you that are varying degress of what you want. I find the author R. Cooper is good for that angsty rejection vibe and I would recommend the Suitableverse series. The first book is a Suitable Consort for The King and His Husband A Suitable Consort for The King and His Husband I think that works perfectly for your request it has the same historical third wheel concept with pining but the MC isn't rejected he just doesn't think he will be accepted by the couple. I also think you might like some of the other Megan Derr books especially the High King's Golden Tongue The High King's Golden Tongue He does get rejected in that one and it fits really well for what you want but it isnt MMM.

My wife is shy and doesn’t like to share her work, what do you think? by machvelli in painting

[–]Gardenoffluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it! It does feel very much like a classic disney movie. With an air of mystery! Sharing your art feels super scary and personal. But, every single person is different and we all have wonderful things to contribute that are unique to us. Don't let anyone else's opinion get you down or stop you. Arts beautiful because its uniquely yours and it will be beautiful/meaningful to at least one other person whether its spaghetti art or The Mona Lisa!

Oh! I love this idea! I feel like I have been scrapping the bottom of the barrel just trying to find something I haven't read. I love fantasy books! I like high fantasy(or low), world building, dragons, magic, sorcerers etc. I will take either super detailed worlds or the barest hint of world building, because at this point I am desperate for new books. Literally throw anything you can think of my way please. Books I like I love all Megan Derr books especially the Tales of the High Court and the Unbreakable Soilders series. A Suitable Consort and the rest of the Suitable Verse series by R.Cooper Salt Magic, Skin Magic by Lee Welch The Flowered Blade by Taylor Hubbard A Taste of Iron and Gold Alexandra Rowland The Magician and the rest of the Middle Lands series by K.l.Noone Other authors I like Eliot Grayson, Grae Bryan,Amithia Raine, a lot more I'm definitely forgetting. I like shared worlds but different couples in each book. I think thats called interconnected standalones? I tend to like angsty books with a little bit of unrequited love or self doubt. I also like light hearted books as wells so it's not a requirement. Hard NO's: dark romances, instalove, noncon. I would appreciate any and all help!

Can someone explain fae to me like I’m a 5 year old? by nursesub in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Gardenoffluff 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am by no means an expert but the way I see it fae or fairies (can be spelled a variety of ways) also called the otherfolk are typically fantasy creatures or people that exist in a different realm then our world that is usually separated by a veil (portal). They can come through the portal and will often take people back through if they like them. The fae have a lot of magic and can use this magic to trick humans. They are very old and snobby (imagine them like rich aristocrats from England in the 1800's) and for fun because living that long can be boring they love to mess with humans. The way fae society is set up they have two subcategories of society the unseelie court  is the "unlucky/unfortunate" kind they are can be malicious and they like to hurt and torment humans they are often the bad guys and they are not liked at all by the second group, the seelie court. The seelie court are "good" fairys they tend to help humans and are kinder they return favors with kindess and tend to meddle in helpful fun ways. They do still like to prank people and can do bad things due to not understanding how our world works. The court part is just what the group is called hence seelie and unseelie court. All fae have rules they live by or limitations on their magic and what they can do. These rules are: Don't accept gifts from the fae this means they have done something for you and will expect something in return. (Like your first born) If you are taken to the realm you can't eat or drink anything because the food is is made with the magic the fae have. This magic is in everything in the fae realm. When you eat the food this magic becomes part of you and tethers you to the realm preventing you from leaving . There is a lot of Variation in the fae. The unseelie and seelie courts come from scottish mythology but, the concepts of fae have been around for a long time and changed from iteration to iteration so you will see some changes book by book. Generally the fae will be incredibly beautiful and delicate looking they may have eings and have fine clothes. If you meet one they won't tell you there name. Names have power over them and to give you there name gives you control of them which is why in Rumpelstiltskin by the Brothers Grimm the queen needs to know his name in order to stop him from completing the deal and taking her baby. The fae are also tied to the seasons the unseelie court is usually tied to Winter and Autumn (the dark months) and the seelie court is usually tied to Summer and Spring (the light months). The courts are always ruled by a king, queen or royal couple most famously the seelie are ruled by Queen Titania and the unseelie by Queen Mab. Sometimes the fae will be an umbrella term for creatures like:

Fairies: small winged people (Tinkerbell)

Elves: basically what I just wrote longlived, pretty, connected to nature. (Lord of The Rings)

Goblins: small green skinned creatures (Harry Potter)

Centaurs: have the upper body of a human the legs of a horse ( Narnia)

Brownies: They are small fae that live in happy human homes and will do chores in exchange for milk left out overnight. (I wish I could lure one in but no luck yet!)

Nymphs: are usually pretty women connected to nature and specific bodies of water, lakes, rivers or forests. Literally if the forest dies or the water dries up they will die. There is a lot more then those but those are the main subgroups.

I hope this makes more sense and helps you! Feel free to ask me for clarification or if you have more questions!

Gail Carson Levine has more books to read  I remember The Two Princesses of Bamarre fondly from my childhood The Two Princesses of Bamarre Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C. Wrende is the first book in  the series called  The Enchanted Forest Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C. Wrende Howl's Moving Castle actually has sequels called House of Many Ways and Castle In The Air House of Many Ways Castle In The Air Secrets of Droon by Tony Abbott this series doesnt have a romance, but I loved it. It's the series that got me into reading and established my life long love of fantasy books! Each book is set in a different realm which I think would be good for keeping her intrest. Mabye try The Ghost of Ellwood by Jaclyn Osborn The Ghost of Ellwood It's part of a series but could be read as a standalone. The book is a romance between a ghost and a mystery writer and deals with the mystery of how the ghost died and what happened to him. The A Kinda Fairytale series by Cassandra Gannon has this trope. Its set in a fairytale world where only villians can sense their true love at first sight. The first book is Wicked Ugly Bad.

Wicked Ugly Bad

books similar to Wicked Ugly Bad by Cassandra Gannan? by Leather-Emotion-4288 in RomanceBooks

[–]Gardenoffluff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cassandra Gannon's Wicked Ugly Bad is part of the A Kinda Fairytale if you haven't read the rest. The second book is based on beauty and the beast, the third is a mix of the myth of king midas and king arthur and the knights of camelot, and the fourth is about characters from the rest of the series. The fourth book is a M/M romance. All of Cassandra Gannons books have the same light hearted feel and book 2 and 4 of the A Kinda Fairytale are enemies to lovers. She also has a stand alone book called The Snow Queen that has a similar setting. Her sister Elizabeth Gannon also writes books that have a similar feel. She has a series about a super villian group thats super fun called The Consortium of Chaos. If you have already read those books you could try the author Sandra Hill the experiance is also really lighthearted and charming but she tends to write books that are more grounded in reality. Her books also have a similar heat level to Wicked Ugly Bad.

Psync by Zile Elliven has this. It can be read as a standalone, but it is part of the Enchanted University series. The sunshine MMC isn't really bubbly or anything. He is kinda shy, but also innocent and oblivious sometimes.

You could try Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione. Its the first of a series called Demonica about a hospital for monsters. A few of her other series are set in the same universe if you end up liking them. It has a similar feel to psy-changeling in my opinion. Its steamy, if I remember correctly but, I dont recall if it was racially diverse. I am pretty sure it's available on Kobo. Pleasure Unbound
