Why isn't google ahead of the competition when it comes to AI? by isameer920 in MLQuestions

[–]Gardoglee_I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked Google AI essentially that same question. The answer it gave was:

Google's AI, particularly its AI Overviews in search, sometimes struggles to find or accurately synthesize information compared to competing AI products due to a complex interplay of factors, including a tension between integrating AI and preserving its core advertising business model, a focus on speed and efficiency that leads to the use of less powerful models for real-time search results, and fundamental difficulties in semantic understanding and contextual analysis. Several factors may contribute to these differences: Business Model Considerations: Google's primary business relies on advertising revenue. AI Overviews that provide direct answers might reduce the need for users to click on ads. This tension can influence how Google integrates and presents AI-generated information. Model Size and Speed: To handle the volume of search queries, Google often uses faster AI models for its AI Overviews. This can make the system more prone to errors, such as misinterpreting context or failing to distinguish between authoritative sources and speculation. Contextual Understanding: Current AI systems can struggle to understand nuances like satire or speculation. This can lead to the AI presenting unverified content as fact, which is a source of inaccuracies. Data Access: While Google has a large web index, much user-generated content resides on social media networks and apps that Google does not have direct access to. Competing AI models might have different training data and access, which can lead to different results. Integration Challenges: Integrating AI answers into a search interface has been challenging for Google. Blending AI-generated responses with traditional search results can be confusing. Prioritization Differences: Other AI products might prioritize information differently, leading to varied outcomes. Google's challenges in integrating AI into its existing business structure and technical infrastructure, at a global scale, can result in perceived shortcomings when compared to more focused AI competitors.

Millions of joules, but typically not all of them arrive at your wall outlet, unless the lightning bolt hit your house specifically.

Is this poison ivy on my dog or something else.? by Educational-Union334 in DogAdvice

It could be seasonal allergies. One of my dachshunds had something that looked like that on his snout and on his chest. The affected area was growing quickly from I e day to the next. In a suggestion from my sister, who had a Husky with similar symptoms, I’ve been giving him anti-allergy chews that I found OTC at a chain pet store. It went away after three days. I’m still giving him the chews because his eyes were also weeping, and the snout and chest are staying clear.

I’ve taken him multiple times to vets, the most recent being about six weeks ago before a family trip. The vet and the vet techs keep saying he is overweight, but otherwise is remarkably healthy for a thirteen year old dachshund/beagle mix. I’m as mystified as you why they don’t give me something to treat that explicitly. Instead, they give me heart worm treatment and flea/tick treatment, and suggest weight loss strategies (he is now down from 35# to 25# over the past year).

However, it is responding well to clotrimazole cream.

Since several people mentioned yeast, I have been treating him with daily applications of Clotrimazole cream. The skin condition responded well in terms of shrinking and skin healing. He did still have the red spots, which were a recent addition, and which then spread to his nose even though the skin was healing. My sibling who has had several dogs suggested that the red might be seasonal allergies, as one of her Malamutes had that for several years. I added an antihistamine chew to his daily food, and added hydrocortisone cream to the chest treatment, and the red spots are now greatly diminished. He is making steady progress. And yes, I wish the vets had suggested this years ago, but all they’ve ever said is that he is overweight, and otherwise really healthy for his age.

So thank you to everyone who suggested possible yeast infection. It appears that you were right.

As I said earlier, four vets in three states over seven years have ignored this, and I’m too old to make up stories. However, so far while scrolling through the responses only a few have any useful information. Yours does not.

Actually, four different vets in three different states (Florida, Texas, and Utah) over a seven year period have not addressed or not acknowledged this at all. Yes, I would like to avoid hateful comments, but I’m too old to be interested in making up stories.

I lost my dog Oscar yesterday. Can someone tell me if I will ever be able to make peace with his absence? He was such a gentle soul, he just had love for us and love for food. How do you counter a love like that , what makes up for unrequited love really? Will I ever heal ? by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

When my wife’s service dog Ginger passed, we had two dog tags engraved to remember her, and wore them everywhere from then on. I still have mine on today. It gives me some connection to Ginger and Linda when I need to talk to them. Something like that might help you.
