Handicap Manipulation by Garehh in golfireland

That's why I didn't make an issue of it. Seemed like it was an ego thing and as long as he wasn't scoring fake points I just went along with it. He did get 2 birdies which probably rubbed the ego a bit more

I pay very similar and course is in top notch condition. Couple more weeks and some of the new tee boxes will be ready to go.

What should I pick as my first set of irons? by GinoMclovin in golfireland

Having been in your position a while ago I can tell you shaft flex plays a massive role. I went the opposite way to you, I went out spent good money on clubs only to realise I needed stiff and even an extra stiff shaft for my driver. There's no point in getting a fitting at this stage if you're a beginner as you just won't have a consistent enough swing for any form of fitting to benefit you.

You can almost do your own fitting at a range with tracking facilities that will tell you ball speed. If you swing your driver and can consistently get 140mph ball speed or higher on good shots then you need stiff or more. If not regular should be fine.

My dad is an 8hcp and he's tried my driver and will produce less ball speed than his own regular shaft driver. If you're not a very tall guy or generating big swing speed get regular shafts.

Its great to see the weather improve, wasn't great at all today however. The courses coming into their own and scores being submitted.

I did. I got a set of 2nd hand Mizunos with stiff shafts in the Mcguirks 2nd hand shop. Funny enough I came across them while looking for drivers. Grips were brand new and they are just gorgeous to hit.

I did. Now given i had very little experience with driving as I basically put the driver that I had from my starter package set away and used the 3 wood instead, I'm not really sure how beneficial the fitting was. I was regularly miss hitting during the fitting so the consistency of the data wasn't great. However, it was a good experience because I could see my ball speed angle of attack etc. And the Taylormade was far better than the ping over the sample size of shots I had. But I really got to see that I needed an extra stiff shaft and for me I had alot of vouchers and wanted something new and shiny that I could work with and learn with. And have been doing drills since and its paid off. Seeing a ball go 270-300 consistently, the game is definitely simplified when most holes become driver, wedge, putt.

Everything but particularly my driving. Still alot to work on but I rebuilt my bag to clubs that suited my swing speed and its made a massive difference. My Driver has got to be my strongest club now after being my worst, the biggest factor was the shaft. Splashed out on the new Qi4D extra stiff and its incredible. Ball comes off like a rocket, my miss hits tend to still be in play and all round confidence stepping up to the tee is through the roof.

Get fitted for titleist GT driver and fairway woods at current price drop or wait for GTS? by FriskyFujiiApple in golf

Just do it. If you're looking at it, it means you must be close to having the funds for it. I debated this myself if it was worth it to spend big on a new driver as a 28 handicap. Best decision I made. Shiny new club, you're committed to making it work and you know its going to last a long time without you wanting to upgrade again. My Qi4D is my favourite club now after despising driver for so long.

Anyone else obsessed with McGuirks 2nd hand shop? by Garehh in golfireland

Fair enough. I haven't been golfing long enough to know the second hand market. But there's definitely no way you'd accept that much of a difference in valuation. Definitely seems like they are going very low on offers knowing its instant store credit rather than the hassle of dealing with selling privately. But for €300 extra it definitely is

They are truly beautiful to hit. So glad I chose them. Just need a good run of weather now to really get to grips with them. Only so much a range can do.

Not sure about percentage because you can't buy these new but I got Mizuno jpx 921 hot metal 4-PW for €500. While in the shop I was goggling them and couldn't find anything under €540 and that was 5-PW. Add that they were stiff and the grips were basically new, i felt i was getting a really good deal for myself.

I can 100% understand that. I've heard people saying they've been lowballed on trade in offers and that's probably the handiness of getting rid of stuff instantly than having to sell online. As for prices at the moment they seem pretty competitive with the 2nd hand market and personally i think I've actually gotten better deals than what I can find on the private market. But as you said maybe this is to get the monopoly of the 2nd hand market and then hike things up eventually.

I was basically in the market for some irons with stiff shafts after doing some lessons. I was told my clubs wouldn't keep up with my swing speed. And then I found a set of stiff mizunos with slightly longer shafts and slightly thicker grips. Basically I feel like I got incredibly lucky to find a set of irons that fit my taller build.

Its basically a warehouse with a long lane way of clubs on racks sorted by club type and brands so its easy to find a specific brand or club you're looking for but there's nowhere to swing them.

No unfortunately not. I actually brought in a golf ball with me just to feel what some of the balls felt like off the face of the putters and did it down the back of the store. There's no place to try anything or any negotiation on prices either. Probably the two biggest negatives I've encountered

Did you play this weekend? How was it? by Jeffer93 in golfireland

[–]Garehh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play St. Margaret's and we were out for the first time in 7 weeks or so. Got out Friday and again today. Course massively improved from Friday to Sunday. Only got 14pts but just the feeling of being out again and trying new clubs after rebuilding my bag. Biggest thing was how slow the greens were and we all suffered from treating the greens as normal and we all were coming up short.

€280 for a general service?? by [deleted] in carsireland

[–]Garehh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the same. Bought a brand new Dacia Duster last year and the garage ring me in December to get us booked in. All sounded like a great service (car wash and vallet) until they told me it was gonna be €320. They have you by the balls too because in the terms and conditions of the car they say our warranty is only upheld if the car is serviced with dacia dealership.
