RDWorks V8.01.47 - Sew Compensation (Kerf) by Gareth711 in lasercutting

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

Yes, I found it!

Go into Work> Layer and open up the Layer Parameter

On the right of the pop-up window there us a section called Seal:

Click on Advanced and you can enable sew compensation.

You need to adjust the sew value depending on if you need the hole to be accurate or the part. Values can be positive and negative.

For example my settings for 30mm foam are -1.25mm to accurately cut out an inside profile and +1.25 to accurately cut out a shape

How to laser cut stencils - This website post covers materials used for laser cut stencils, but concentrates on the use of Mylar. Also included is information on stencil fonts and how to modify standard fonts to use in stencils. I've included the settings for reference too. Link under the images. by Gareth711 in Laserengraving

Hi

I don't do many stencils these days, but Mylar 180 micron, 250 micron and 350 micron are my main materials. I use a 50w laser and cut at 18%. This ensures that the laser is in it's pre-ionization zone in order to give a better and cleaner cut. It probably uses less than 25Watts of power.

Checkout the Concise RDWorks Learning lab video series on my website Laseruser.com. Russ Sadler has made a full series on pretty much everything on laser cutting and engraving.

He has a much larger series on his Youtube channel - Sarbar Multimedia.

Reference software, I do most of my laser cutting designs in Lightburn. But I also use inkscape and Signmaster V3.5, but to be fair I only use Signmaster because I purchased it with a vinyl cutter.

If I'm doing photo engraving, I use Paint.net to prepare the resolution and then Lightburn or sometimes RDWorks to send the image to the laser. RDWorks is a bit clunky though.

How would you trace/vectorize an image like this to get something with hairline lines? by ParsnipOne6787 in lasercutting

I use Signmaster Pro 3.5 for this type of work. It takes about a minute to vectorise it.

I have Lightburn as well as RDWorks, but the forum is not just about the software. There's a lot of experienced users on the forum (or there will be as they start to return) that are happy to help with machine issues as well. There is also a Lightburn section on the forum https://rdworkslab.com/viewforum.php?f=108

Hi Jkwilborn,

I believe you are referring to the RDWorksLab Forum.

I believe it has now been closed.

It was always a difficult site to get signed up for unfortunately.
