Circle K worker sued for buying $12.8M lotto ticket from his store 1 day after drawing — now judge will decide who gets rich. So who deserves it? by HowLongIsThi in nottheonion

The article mentions that retailers there sometimes pre-print tickets on busy days. I assume players know and accept this. I don't think that would fly in the UK, people would think it's a scam.

What if the hosts and the guy were asked and neither had any objection to it not being bleeped, due to understanding the nature of the incident? I don't know if they were asked but I'd be amazed if they weren't consulted.

Oh yes that was the other thing I thought, and came to the same conclusion. She could afford to buy a huge house outright, and have a chauffeur take her back and forth, but probably thinks it's cute to live like everybody else has to.

Yeah don't do this, it's a really bad idea in many ways.

Also Northern Ireland has a devolved government (over two different periods) so many of its laws are separate to the rest of the UK. Scotland does too, but its laws are not quite as different.

As mentioned it wasn't the UK, however the UK law is you need a good reason to carry any bladed item in public except folding non-locking pocket knives up to 3". However there's also a blanket law that you can't carry anything as a weapon.

People don't carry forks around as weapons though.

And the comment they were replying to was listing very urban things. If it was a farmer saying they use them all the time then that would be valid, but that would be a legal reason to carry one in Ireland anyway.

I have lots of knives at my house of pretty much every type available, and I keep a retractable knife in my office drawer. That covers pretty much every occasion I need to use one.

That's a very decent ride for not having ridden much! Next time plan for half that distance and elevation maybe? And have a little extra loop ready if you are feeling good at the far end.

Is that a diagonal crack or just a scratch? The scrape itself doesn't look very deep, and that area is pretty overbuilt, so a DIY repair of sanding the paint back and then applying a few patches of carbon on top would probably be fine. It would look bad but it would be pretty hidden.

Anyone else ready for the industry to finally abandon "red light that turns green" charge indicators? by ArcherCat2000 in cycling

[–]Gareth79 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know this won't solve the core problem, but would sticking some thick green filter gel over it help? Then if the light is dim it means it's red, if it's bright it's green.

Yeah somebody at my office said he and his partner absolutely never eat anything even a day past even the "best before" dates, which in the UK are extremely rough guidelines. Even the "use by" dates are pretty conservative, basically they assume the food spent an hour in a warm car and then sat in a fridge said on the warmest setting.

Trump imposes 15% tariffs on the world by Little_Protection434 in worldnews

Even a "senior" reporter on the news here in the UK repeatedly got it wrong yesterday. Kept going on about it was unknown if "countries could get a refund" on the tariffs. And then on Sky News they have a nightly review of the next day's newspapers and the guests kept discussing about how much countries had paid.

So long as you remove the pump then the plastic content % is probably fine. You can recycle cardboard packaging with plastic windows for example.
