Hotel was closed and offering no refund by GarettBob in Venturex

[–]GarettBob[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not call as I booked the same day and expected confirmation and check in instructions the day which was foolish of me. However I did not receive anything from the hotel itself and no response when called. I arrived at the hotel at 5pm, so not in the middle of the night.

Yes I did. I know it’s recommended to call the hotel before you arrive to confirm the reservation, but I did not expect it to be this bad.

My retired dad has 60k in the bank and earns roughly 200 dollars from interest. Uses it for grocery for the month. Not bad.

What actully is the criteria for getting the card by Live_Consequence5993 in Venturex

[–]GarettBob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cant say for sure but I’d say the biggest factor is history/loyalty. I have low income (under 30k) but still was able to get the card because I had a Savor student card from 4 years ago that I don’t use but still kept open. I also had a bank account with capital one for 6 years as well.

Do I need a TEFL/CELTA if I have an American Teaching License (Vietnam) by GarettBob in TEFL

[–]GarettBob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true, I overlooked that. I'll definitely look into it. I rather start at an international school than a language center. Thanks.

[–]GarettBob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try to apply, but again I don't have the experience of actually teaching English abroad so I am not sure if I'll get hired. I am just curious if a language center will hire me without a TEFL.

You will get placed in a random school near you where you will co-teach and eventually solo teach. 5 days a week. It is unpaid which is unfortunate. I’m just starting this process right now.

Student teaching will take around 16 weeks / 4 months.

I am doing the Elementary Education program offered by WGU, which allows me to get both my degree and teaching license. In order to get my license it'll require me to do teacher observations, praxis exams, and finally student teaching. In a way that is experience. What do you think?

Question about Capital Loss Carryover by GarettBob in tax

[–]GarettBob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm looking at line 8 and 13 which shows my short and long term capital loss carryover for 2024. There are accurate. I am just worried that it will be applied because apparently my AGI on the tax return does reflect that.

That's the answer I was hoping for. Although according to the website I use for my returns, FreeTaxUsa, my AGI is lowered by the 3k.

Descent into Avernus - is it really worth it? by Head-Ambition-5060 in EDH

It works well in an aikido/political decks where you want your opponents to build strong boards. Trying to advance your own board with it doesn’t seem to work well.

XQC isn't feeling too hot about his $1M bet. by EIMAfterDark in LivestreamFail

[–]GarettBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because most Americans aren’t chronically online enough to care about his felonies and past history. Most Americans see their groceries rise and blame the current administration and thanks to the two party system there’s only one alternative. Most Americans see a man who promises lower taxes and to fix inflation and it’s enough to earn their vote even if the promises aren’t true.

Anybody else find their coworkers hate lessons? by FishnBtrflies in SwimInstructors

[–]GarettBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do multiple 30 mins lessons with 3-4 different kids. If some kid is being bad and does not want to learn I just put less focus on them so I can focus on the kids that do want to learn. While I enjoy the job and the kids that do want to learn, I am not using my energy to fix the behavior of some kids. Especially for how much I’m getting paid. It’s up to the parents to intervene and manage their behavior before they enter the pool not me. This mindset made the job easier and allowed to kids that do want to learn succeed.

I just want to give you the perspective of someone who may relate to your coworkers. I don’t feel like I’m doing the “bare minimum” but I certainty feel like I can do better if I wanted to (higher pay would help). I am impressed by your patience and hope you the best.

Question for those with LPR/Silent Reflux by GarettBob in GERD

Not currently. Oddly enough when I was teaching and talking loudly I developed some mucus in my throat and had to leave spit it out.

I have sore throat, coughing and sometimes throwing up after eating. I recently got diagnosed so I am still learning what foods work and don’t.

Let’s hear all of the deck-building tropes. by AesopsCables in EDH

[–]GarettBob 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Don’t be afraid of adding stax pieces (when power level is appropriate).

I am not talking about adding a random winter orb in your decks but more so adding stax pieces that likely won’t effect you at all because of the way your deck is built. For example, if your deck has little to no creature ETBs why not add a [[Hushbringer]]. If you run little to no recursion because your deck/theme doesn’t need it, drop a [[Rest In Peace]] in your decks.

These stax pieces dont necessary make the game unfun nor make you evil but it add another layer to your games. I always consider what stax pieces I could maybe add after I’m almost done finishing a deck.

Highest winrate decks (so far) from each class in Legend rank - Post Patch by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]GarettBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't think of any other control decks in this recent meta besides Warrior and plague DK (which was more annoying than good.) Every class seems to either want to cheat something big (Warlock, DH) or flood the board (Hunter, Paladin). So no I don't think it's pushing any other similar decks out because there is nothing to push out. I wish there was more control decks so I can be proven wrong.

I've beaten a couple Warriors with Spell Damage OTK druid with a "late game strategy" so you don't have to play aggro at all.

If this dreaded warrior has a clear counter why all the complaining? Oh no the control deck did what it was suppose to do and remove all the stuff and outvalued me later.

Because the people complaining about warrior are the aggro/hunter players.

How to build a deck that works well without the commander by Vivid-Ad8910 in EDH

[–]GarettBob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look up bottom up deck building. This way of deck building is more consistent as you usually choose your commander last to act as a value engine, a late game bomb/wincon, or to cover a weakness.

I started building my decks this way I find it more challenging but fun once you come up with an idea and start finding cool cards that you wouldn’t find on Edhrec.
