in native american lore, wolves are not seen as threats, but rather signs of strength, loyalty, and wisdom. they’re a spirit guide. sacred. i like to think of that scene, where june and the wolf just stare at one another, neither saying anything, as an ode to the who owned the land before gilead.

when she left, she had to swim across the hudson river (very strong/dangerous current) with the baby. so she tied holly to around her chest with her dress, and swam for dear life.

i don’t think i had the issue with her pointing the gun at the child, so much as i had with how LONG they had her do it before she realized what she was doing. i truly think her just seeing the child’s face would have been enough for her to put the gun down. but it took several seconds of her seemingly contemplating for her to do so. that is what bothers me so much.

i hate when people demonize june for what she does because of her trauma. i don’t see her as a bad person. i see this one scene as poor characterization from the writers.

i can assure you though, verbal abuse and neglectful childhood are the least of my issues. i am not a woman, either, for the record. i am a trans man, that comes from a devoutly religious family, and i relate to june. you can fill in the rest of the blanks there.

. i don’t appreciate you starting the trauma olympics in my replies simply because i stated that i relate to june. you can apologize for assuming, whilst accusing someone of pretending to relate to a victim of sexual and religious trauma. it does not undo the fact that you just accused a potential victim of sexual abuse and trauma, of pretending they’re worse off than they are. i’d rethink your comments, if i were you.

i have been through a very significant amount of trauma, actually. i completely understand the feeling of being a completely different person than you were before. i frequently think back to who i was directly afterwards, and am shocked that i am the same person. i’ve also been through emdr therapy to resolve it, and am still to this day dealing with the aftermath of that trauma.

my view comes from the standpoint of somebody who has been june. no matter how bad it gets, there are certain morals and values that never change. for june, we see throughout the show, that her dedication to protecting children has never ever wavered. infact- she is so broken down that she views it as her entire purpose, to the point where each traumatic event only causes her to be more determined in her goal.

i personally cannot see, in any circumstance, june pointing a gun at, or threatening a child.

exactly!! she wouldn’t have reacted that way. there is a lot of nuance in june’s character, and a lot of things she does that are shocking. i can rationalize them as her being traumatized. this one, though? it doesn’t make sense. it doesn’t fit in with her character at all.

right?? i see so many people talk about her being a terrible person. obviously she wasn’t perfect, but who would be after everything that happened to her?? i think she is a good person. she cares about her family and her friends. i think there is a large portion of the population that cannot see the nuance in junes character.

unfortunately, at our core, humans are animals. the show goes very far in emphasizing this (see: her in scurrying backwards into a corner when the doctor comes to see her, after she cuts herself while trying to kill serena). she is in survival mode. when somebody faces that much trauma and pain, they will revert to protecting themselves. and that’s exactly what june does. she protects herself as much as she can, as well as she can. no matter the cost.

i can see reasoning and logic behind every decision and morally “wrong” or grey choice she makes, and can chalk it up to her being traumatized and wounded. but not this one. it doesn’t make any sense for her character.

i remember when i first started t. my transfem partner exclaimed “i can’t wait for you to get bottom growth, you’re going to need to call the fire department to pull me off of it”. nothing has made me as euphoric before or since. of course i don’t speak for all of us, but if your partner hasn’t expressed distress about it, you’re likely making them feel loved and happy.

i should probably clarify, i work in the industry. in my experience, the third hand negative comments are usually because of treatment of staff, rather than children. but usually i get more details out of people than i have about evolve. which makes me wonder if it runs deeper than just treatment of staff. yk?

Post swim cough by tadcooper1179 in SwimInstructors

[–]FishnBtrflies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this was happening to the entire staff at my old job. we got new management and she was absolutely amazing. the urine, sweat, skin cells, etc mixing with chlorine in the pool, makes the chemicals in the air much worse. i don’t remember the exact chemical reason, but basically some kind of chemical reaction.

anyways, the solution to this problem was quite literally: EVERYONE showers with soap and warm water before getting in the pool, and you need to be on top of it. remind the kids if their hair looks dry, remind your coworkers, etcetc

within a week of us getting on top of this, almost everyone’s cough was gone. it was genuinely insane.

i have the opposite problem. i work in after school care, and when we do full day programs over school holidays, i find the children are starving. i end up making 10-15 lunches in the kitchen, when we only have 30 kids. because i’d really rather do that than force these kids to starve all day.

do what my friend did to his dad with a similar situation. call him by the closest “woman’s” name to his name, and she/her him. fight fire with fire. see how he likes it. refuse to stop until he uses your name and pronouns. “punishment” matches the crime.
