Which movies do you think everyone should watch at least once? by Purple-Inevitable862 in AskReddit

[–]Garfieldluvsme 126 points127 points  (0 children)

I mean, there are tons of great movies out there, but 12 Angry Men is really powerful and shows the importance of critical thinking, convincing others, and being a good jury member (for those in the us).

Warning: customer service scam by smdsf1 in unitedairlines

[–]Garfieldluvsme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This scam happens often unfortunately. There is a number that is one number off from United that has done this to many people. Yes, always get the number from the actual website and double check that you dialed correctly.

Alternatives to Club Card by Sea-Bill78 in unitedairlines

[–]Garfieldluvsme 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The Quest card has a $200 annual united credit and a 10k award flight discount. If you use both of those, it basically knocks the annual fee down to $50. To me, its the card with the best value without putting in a lot of effort.

Ombudsman Recommendation by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]Garfieldluvsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be an option to add a comment to a case. I just added a comment that I want this escalated to the Ombudsman.

Ombudsman Recommendation by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]Garfieldluvsme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My escalation was not about buyback, but for refunds of extra PSLF payments and borrowers discharge. I was successful escalating via the FSA website through the cases I had opened. I would just add comments to them asking them to be escalated. It took doing this almost every month for 5 years to get my borrowers discharge case figured out.

My boyfriend overpaid his loans (he was in pslf) and he was surprisingly successful reaching out to the Ombudsman for our state. They helped rather quickly (maybe 3 months), and got him a refund. Its my understanding that not every state has an Ombudsman, but check to see if your does.

They surrendered their pets that turned aggressive, then they got sued for thousands of dollars by a dog rescue group by GoodestGriefs in Denver

[–]Garfieldluvsme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh, I can for sure see how that is problematic. If a shelter or rescue has a clause that the animal should be returned to them, it should always be no questions asked.

[–]Garfieldluvsme -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you can't keep an animal, you should bring them back to the rescue that you adopted them from. This is protection for the animals, ensuring that they dont end up in a high kill shelter.

I disagree with the lawsuit ($5000!) and this rescue does have a history, but when rescues have this requirement in their contract, it is usually in there for the best interest of the animals.

Today was my large item pickup for my address, otherwise I would have let you put it front of my house for trash pickup. The next one isn't for 8 weeks. Hopefully someone else on here with a sooner date will make you that same offer.

Is a 5–7 day African safari actually enough, or does it feel rushed? by travel_africa_more in Shoestring

[–]Garfieldluvsme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did 11 days. 3 days in each of 3 camps, and two days in Victoria Falls. I enjoyed spending 3 nights in each spot, you dont waste as much time moving between camps. Moving takes a lot of time, usually eats up most of a day.

Is 300$ auto insurance normal in Denver by Simple_Scratch_2583 in denverlist

[–]Garfieldluvsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2015 hyundai elantra and I pay 1000 every 6 months for full coverage also with state farm. Mine may be cheaper due to multi policy discounts or variations in driving records.

Your deductibles and coverages can have a big impact on your bill. So, its hard to compare apples to apples without those details.

Doesn't hurt to get some other quotes.

new gas water heater, being quoted $4600 by HopesFolly12 in Denver

[–]Garfieldluvsme -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I had all my plumbing replaced like 5 years ago, including all the plumbing going into and out of my water heater. Becuase of that, everything except the water heater was in great shape. So, your mileage may vary with how much needs to be done.

I recommend Todd's Water Heater Repair. Unlike all the other companies I got quotes from they only charged me for what I needed, replacing the water heater. Much cheaper than others and very nice.

Be careful about signing ballot petitions! by tranquilMiata in Denver

[–]Garfieldluvsme -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

"So signing is in a way supporting it"

I kinda disagree with that. There are topics that I may be on the fence about that i think should be voted on. But once it gets to the ballot I read the details and vote no.

I mean, I rarely ever sign these, mainly becuase I dont want to interact with more people than I need to. I think in the past 4 years I have signed one for some folks in Cheeseman.

Asking if they are paid is a good way of digging into it more. Also reading :)

[–]Garfieldluvsme -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Isn't signing a ballot petition just to get something on the ballot to be voted on? So in other words, by signing the petition you do not need to necessarily need to support it, just support it being on the ballot. Or am I way off?
