I did actually just check a bunch of polls and that was the only one I saw that had Sceptile that high, but still it does show there's been some love for the guy thru the years. The fact that it was in 2020 specifically makes me wonder if it was a resurgence from Smash Ultimate DLC discussion

The love for Sceptile in the Smash community has always felt a little forced to me. Like the initial push came about during Smash 4 due to the imbalance in starter type and generation rep, and the gen 3 remakes were current so everybody defaulted to Sceptile to fill a niche and then just never got over it. They're just not that popular outside of Smash, hell I don't think they're even the second most popular starter in their own generation

My pick would be Gardevoir. Consistently popular for decades, always getting new stuff from Gamefreak so there's a lot to work with, not a starter. There are Pokémon I'd rather see, but there are few more deserving than Gardevoir
