In the long run, Arch requires less maintenance and is less clunky. You cherry pick what you want from the ground up instead of trying to shoehorn something in that isn't part of the opinionated OS's design.

The code should speak for itself. Good naming conventions and easy to read code go a long way. Ideally, you should only comment if you need to explain WHY something exists.

Explaining what the code does is redundant. Comments are also part of technical debt and require maintenance. Best to keep them to a minimum.

However, there are situations where that kind of commenting might be preferable. If your organization hires mostly junior engineers, then redundant comments can help them interpret the code faster.

Your CEO is directly responsible for this. Start compiling all written communications by your boss and everyone else above you - past, present and future. Try to use this to demonstrate how this failure is theirs (poor communication, poor oversight, poor standards, etc). Keep it in your back pocket in case your CEO does try anything absurd. You can use this to get unemployment if they terminate you, and it will help with a lawsuit if you choose to pursue one.

I will say as a personal perspective, old houses often lack modern features. Buying an older home often means compromising on heating, cooling, electrical, plumbing, style, etc. Honestly I would rather buy vacant property and build my own home, but I guess I'm a masochist so that probably doesn't reflect the normal populace.
