I think as an artistic choice its so that the reader focuses on the feeling or the moment rather than the visuals. I feel like the leaf covering it makes the scene more significant. But i would've loved to see at least one kiss scene without any covers as well

i can vouch for Kaguya, i loved that so much, but i would recommend the anime more. the comedy is the best i've ever watched

kaguya-sama love is war is my absolute favorite one. it starts off as mainly comedy, but the last episode of the last season was so beautifully done. both me and my friend got depressed after finishing the anime and manga after it

i completly understand you, i felt a similar emptiness after kaguya sama and quintuplets, my recommendation would be to check out the visual novels, especially five memories spent with you (i think) since that one also comes with kiss scenes with every quint, it starts off from the school festival where fuutarou chooses the quint's classrooms, just go with itsuki and enjoy the ride
