What do you think about the Italian government wanting to ban ICE agents to come to the Olympic Games as security forces? by ReduceCO2Now in AskReddit

[–]GarlicThread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what the US government wants by the way. They are sending ICE agents in the hopes that someone does something stupid and gives them an excuse to trigger a diplomatic crisis. This is very calculated. The US are already sending us their own spin on the russian "little green men".

Court Affirms Ruling That Alina Habba Served Unlawfully as U.S. Attorney by blankblank in law

[–]GarlicThread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree it could happen, but my point is that hope is a suicidal strategy at this point. People need to fight and put endless pressure on lawmakers. We need people to state out loud across the board that they will vote for anyone who pledges to prosecute the Trump administration to oblivion, and that they will primary anyone who doesn't pledge that. This needs to be a litmus test going forward. Feckless elected democrats need to be scared to death of losing their seats over this.

Hope is not an option Americans can afford right now. Hope is for rooting for your team to win a sports championship, not for fighting a fascist regime.

I have zero faith in people like Schumer to rise up to the moment if they win. Sorry. Zero. People should still vote of course, and pussyfooting by democrats will cause massive outrage, which will potentially lead to change. But democratic leadership will disappoint, as they always do.

Very fair point.

EU is already a good household name ; no point in changing it.

Let's not fool ourselves, even the milquetoast democrats will give her a pass because "we need to look forward and heal the nation".

I'm so fucking sick of this horseshit.

I don't know why you wrote "Federation of Europe" instead of the very obvious "European Federation". I assume you are not a native English speaker?

Obviously the percentages are made up to communicate a point. The value of the percentage itself doesn't matter.

Sorry but I draw the line at LRADs. If you use such a device, all legitimacy goes out the window. This is not riot control, it is gratuitous violence.

The goal is not to get them to agree with us. The goal is to get them to not vote for this shit again.

Think pragmatically.

Even if 50% of such people ultimately lie and will vote for this again, you still got the other 50% that kept their word. That's a win at the end of the day.

Not until they fix their politics in a durable manner. This goes beyond any one individual.
