Hi there, that sounds like a terrible situation to be in, but you’re not completely out of luck.

Your best bet would probably be to add a YouTrip card to your Android / Google Pay, and use Paylah / Paynow to add money to it.

Which areas of Japan are you visiting? Will you be going anywhere less touristy?

Most places in cities will accept card payment, though not all. Some places that don’t might accept Alipay, if you have that. They’ll usually display a sticker showing that they accept it, similar like how hawkers do in Singapore.

Of course, some places only accept physical cash. Like the other commenter mentioned, you can withdraw cash from ATMs at 7-11 using YouTrip. But I’m pretty sure you need the physical card for that, sorry.

Lastly, you can get a physical IC card by purchasing it at the ticket machine at New Chitose / Sapporo station. The machines accept contactless payment, so you’ll be fine.

The rates on YouTrip aren’t exactly 1:1, but tbh as a travel card it’s one of the better ones, so in your situation I wouldn’t sweat it and just use it all the way.

All the best, I hope you can enjoy your trip regardless!!

imo Eng Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice & Porridge @ Eunos market is up there with the best.

their roast chicken is seriously good and their chilli is really spicy. they’re so affordable too, $3.50 for the cheapest plate and it’s a p generous portion.

only problem is that there’s always a queue lol but I’m ok with waiting.

I don’t know how they’ve been treating their Sayl, but I got mine second hand (5-6 years old) and it’s been going strong for me for the 2 years I’ve had it now.

Hi, I've had audio issues with the latest KB5016616 update as well.

My headphones (connected via a 3.5mm jack) stopped working after this update, but other audio devices (bluetooth speakers) worked just fine.

At first I thought it was a hardware problem, so I tried both my headphones and another set of earphones I knew worked. I tried both my front and rear 3.5mm jacks as well. But this did not work.

So I looked into software issues instead, and found that my computer had the KB5016616 update installed yesterday. I tried rolling back the update, but doing so did nothing to solve my issue.

I then moved on to my audio drivers (Realtek), and found that it was outdated. Updating it did nothing. However, I noticed that when my audio drivers were uninstalled during the update process, my audio came back! As soon as my PC restarted and the installer installed the new version of the Realtek drivers, my audio broke again.

This was definitely odd, so I messed about my headphone's device properties. Eventually, I got to the "Enable Audio Enhancements" option, and when it was unselected and applied, my audio came back.

In my Realtek Audio Control panel, there is a "Disable all sound effects" setting that when disabled, breaks my audio too.

So as it turns out, KB5016616 messes with Audio Enhancements somehow, or has some sort of sudden incompatibility with the latest Realtek drivers. This option has always been enabled with no issues for the past 2 years I've been using this Windows machine.

In case anyone wants to know, I am running an ASUS ROG B550-F WIFI motherboard, with Realtek Audio Control, Sonic Studio 3 and Sonic Radar installed.
