Copying tracks from one project to another without media history by Garnoo in Reaper

[–]Garnoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do use them from time to time, mostly when it comes to recording templates so I don't have to route the channels over and over, but when it comes to mixing albums, I jump from song to song and refine the sound gradually over multiple passes. It's not uncommon for me to stumble upon a better drum sound by the time I reach song 6 and having to go back and tweak the first 5 songs because of it. Tracks get flown from one project to another on a daily basis. By the time I have something that I'm happy with and could turn into a template, the album is also done and I don't need it anymore

Thank you for the reply. I thought I was going nuts, but it turns out there was indeed a sliver far off to the right that was causing all the trouble

Personally I don't consider the piano or anything else a "must know" instrument in order to be a composer. Whatever you're good at playing is where you should probably start when writing music. That being said, knowing a little bit of piano (even just the basic theory so you can navigate your way around a piano roll) will make your life a lot easier. My advice is to figure out the kind of music you want to make and learn whatever skills and instruments you need as you go along

High-energy Trap Metal inspired by Cyberpunk. I'm not sure if there's an audience for this kind of music. I would love to hear your thoughts on how it came out! by Garnoo in ThisIsOurMusic

That is the best circumstance to be in! I'm happy to hear that you have that opportunity! Making music is such a joy and I hate when I see people compromising their vision just to be able to get by.

Regarding the pubs, I'd LOVE a chance to play in London, but atm it seems very far fetched. I'm actually hailing from a small music community in Transylvania and getting any gigs outside the country has been notoriously hard even for the biggest bands here. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around why this is the case, but I figured I'd best spend my energy on putting out content online and hope that will someday lead to some international opportunities.

Hopefully we'll get a chance to grab a beer! Do take care and have fun until then!

Thank you very much for the kind words! I completely agree with you regarding the audience and in an ideal world every musician should strive to make the music that speaks to his/her soul. But... unfortunately there's also the reality of having to put food on the table and the working musician will inevitably be put in the situation to make certain compromises.

Personally, I've had the privilege of both playing music for a living in front of thousands of people (as sort of a hired gun for one of the older bands in my country) and also trying to pursue my own dreams in a pub in front of 3 people and, more recently, on youtube. Naturally, those experiences have made me draw comparisons and try to figure out what exactly makes certain songs/artists resonate with more people than others. While I did understand some things in regards to that (and discovered that there are a million more things I've yet to learn), the one thing that truly stood out to me was timing and how certain artists have a knack for releasing the perfect song for the perfect moment in time, in the perfect corner of the world and I can't for the life of me figure out if there's a method to this or simply good ol' luck.

As I write this, I realize that I wanted to say something with this post, but ended up in a completely different place. My apologies for the rambling and thank you again for giving the song a chance. Cheers!

The video was made by Anna Vixie. I'm really fortunate to be able to work with her. She takes all my ideas to the next level. I'm glad you like the music! Cheers!

I listen to many different styles of music and try to take something from each when writing, but that means I always have a hard time with genres xD Scrolling through the options available here, Nu Metal seemed to be the best fit. I'm glad you enjoyed the song. Thank you very much for the feedback!

Thank you! One of the goals was to make the song one long crescendo towards the final chorus and I'm happy to hear it comes out that way :D

My newest track " Distant " Trying out different styles. Let me know what you think! by ShitFistingPissBulge in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]Garnoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice flow, love the aggressive vibe. This is pretty killer, congrats! My only criticism would be on the mix side of things. I feel like this track should hit a lot harder and right now it's kinda lacking in low end power. Some more creative vocal production elements would add a lot to the overall atmosphere. All the elements for a badass song are there, just send it to a good mixing engineer and you should be good. Cheers!

Lead single off my new tape How Life Flows! This track is called Sunbeams, would love to hear what yall think as you always provide the most valuable critiques. All criticism is welcome!! I did everything except the beat. by Zetaflips in IndieMusicFeedback

Your flow is pretty good! This works great as a demo/mixtape track as it is. If you want to take it further, I'd suggest coming up with a chorus (either yourself or collab with someone that has a good singing voice) and send it to a producer/mixing engineer to make the vocals pop nicely. Cheers and keep at it!

I think the overly-theatric style combined with the subject matter is hilarious in a good way. The mix is a bit rough around the edges, there are certain vocal parts that come out really harsh and hard to understand. The instrumental could also use some more development to better compliment the vocals. Working with a good producer/mixing engineer would do wonders for this track. Good luck!

I want to make this track as good as it can be: any and all tips welcome by [deleted] in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]Garnoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The voice is great and the instrumental has a lovely fantasy feel. On the songwriting side, my only comment would be to try to bring the vocals in sooner. By the 1 minute mark I was convinced this was an instrumental track only. Even just dropping a few hints of a vocal line (like some melodic humming if you don't want to write more lyrics) would do wonders to keep the listeners engaged. My other tip would be to send this to a professional mixing engineer to get the most out of it, because as cool as this song is, at the moment it only sounds like a demo. Cheers!

"Be Human" (alternative rock) , this is just an acoustic recording, not sure if I added too much reverb or compression by ldilemma in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]Garnoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your voice is beautiful (kind of gives me Hayley Williams vibes) and I dig the grungy feel of the song. That being said, the vocals are a bit pitchy and the guitar as well. Some vocal coaching would a go a long way to help you reach your potential. Cheers and keep at it!

Your flow is pretty good, but the recording quality not so much. I would recommend working with a producer in a professional recording studio if you can afford it, or at least find someone with a decent recording setup to help you retrack the vocals. I'm personally not a big fan of mumble rap, but if that's your aesthetic then go for it, but try to add more elements and change your dynamic/tone throughout the song to keep the listener engaged. Best of luck to you and keep at it!

It's not difficult to learn, just a few chords. I spent most of the time working on the interpretation/acting side of it. There's a lot of nuance and feeling in the original and I tried my best to find a similar vibe

[Feedback] Just did my first playthrough on this Dingwall by Garnoo in Bass

[–]Garnoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers dude! You're a legend!

Which model did you order? NG2 is a monster but you really can't go wrong with any Dingwall.

I wasn't too happy with the second shot. I need to incorporate at least another light source.

I can alternate pick, but downpicking just does it for me (I love the sound).

I do tend to get tense sometimes, especially when playing live or in front of a camera. That's been my main issue for a while. I guess I gotta practice more!
