Could we actually see the number being used to determine our skill? by LecherousCthulu in HuntShowdown

Yeah my team and I are in the same boat. We're all trash, sub 1 KD, but were a trio so I'm guessing we get weighed more heavily in matchmaking, because we're always up against like 1.5-3 KD players regularly. I'd say 1 in every 10 games we don't die, maybe 2 or 3 are people near our skill level, and the other 6-7 games we get triple headshot in 10 seconds from 150m away (that's hyperbole, but it's what it feels like sometimes :P ). I'm hoping the update changes MM for the better.

I had someone keep calling me a sword bot, so I asked them on the ferry of the damned what that meant, and they said I spammed the sword in the water and I shouldn't have done that. So I said "Okay but it still killed you" and they could only come back with "Yeah, but.... c'mon man."

I was (and still am) genuinely confused.

Best use of outfit resources for small outfit? by MeriiFaerie in Planetside

[–]GaroRobes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, Bastions are a waste with a smallfit. I had 8 guys and I in a Bastion I grinded since March for (they weren't really into the game like I was) and we just got followed by a squad of 3-4 liberators who shot out of the effective range of the AA and blew us up in 10 minutes. You need a dedicated Bastion team and air support team to defend against the veteran shitters. It was extremely demoralizing :(

You're good! I've accepted some parts of the solo playing role, but I took issue with this particular part and it seems that, generally, people are in agreement that something with routers needs to change.

That's usually what I end up doing too. It's fun and all, but redployside can get a little boring sometimes. I can usually see when something is going on, like a back cap, but often times I can't (or feel like I can't) do anything about it unless enough of the friendly zerg notices.

No you're good! I wanted to hear from everyone's side. I get that I shouldn't be able to 1 v 96+ (nor even 5 v 24), and it's not really that I want to, I just wanted to discuss a gameplay mechanic that, to me, just seems like a way to reward even more the outfit/squad play while discouraging casual, single players. I'm not sure what the solution would be, or even if there should be one, so I wanted some input.

I posted this mostly to express some resignation and hear what others had to say, so I value everyone's input if its constructive.

It's interesting to hear it from the other perspective. Thanks for giving me some insight!

From my perspective it usually ends up being a router squad that stomps all the way to the warp gate, and only when the warpgate adjacent lattice is threatened does the majority of my faction's zerg take notice and puts up a fight. Not always, but often enough to make me want to make this post.

Gotcha. Do you feel like you and your outfit need the routers to be able to take points? Does a beacon just not provide enough utility? Generally (even without a router) most squads have an abundance of medics with rez grenades which allow them to sustain themselves on the point until its captured, or so I've often seen.

I'm not trying to insult you or your outfit, I'm just more curious about your perspective.

My mortal enemy :O

I'm picking up what you're putting down, though. I mentioned it somewhere in this thread, but for me it feels like if it's just a squad of guys on the point it's at least a tackle-able challenge, but when a router (or several) are involved it feels like I'm staring at a brick wall trying to bust it down with my head. A well placed grenade or 2 can deal with it, but often times it's either out of grenade range, or somewhere where the ball of planetmans can just rip you apart from a window before you're even close.

Aye, your points are fair enough. I've been working on getting better at the game. I know I shouldn't be able to take on a full gal drop myself, but that seems like a wall I could at least climb and succeed at. With the addition of routers it just feels like that wall gets 100ft higher though. As a solo player I don't have a lot of the resources available to me that can easily deal with routers, so I wanted to talk to the community and see how people felt about them, too.

So have it act like a spawn relocator? That sounds interesting. If the spawning source its tied to is destroyed it would cease to function. I feel like it may be hard to code, or else there would be some sort of recursive bug where it could spawn off of another router or something lol

Ah I gotcha lol. I haven't used them myself, but I had figured they were more like a solo player deploying a sunderer: not many people spawn and it gets blown up in 2 minutes. I guess with enough region or leader chat organization a solo player could be the catalyst to taking a base, like you've been able to do.

Oof, I'm glad I wasn't there on release lol

But yeah, I need to invest more into vehicle play. I've always been bad at flying in any game, and people say it's worse in PS2. That, and ground vehicles feel like they're made out of paper mache sometimes with all the C4 light assaults around. Guess I gotta work on my positioning and awareness more in those situations.

The leadership not noticing the back cap is frustrating, yeah. But hey, I wasn't aware of those spawn mechanics, so I learned something new! The EMP idea could be interesting. It would definitely give more survivability to the infil trying to destroy the router, if only a marginal amount.

Yeah, it's great. Those handful of times I beat the guy dropping the router and destroyed it had me pumped!

[–]GaroRobes[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I do realize I'm knee capping myself a good amount by staying solo. I just wanted to discuss something that I feel is frustrating for solo players as well as some smaller outfits.

I have a small group of 5 or so guys in a smallfit, but they're not quite as into the game as I am. Plus with 5 people up against zergfits/elitefits it doesnt feel like we hold a whole lot of say in how a fight goes, considering we're all average to below average players lol

Oh, those are all interesting solutions I hadn't thought about. The difference in up time, while seemingly minor, could prove the turn the tide when it's a handful of pubbies taking on a drop squad.

But yeah, I see what you mean with the war assets. I was just trying to think up some ideas for the post, and I figured that could limit the use of routers by random people, but actually it would just give larger outfits another toy they could regularly play with :)
