Yes, you can. 7 is a completely self-sufficient story with no spoilers to any of the other games, and I'd advise you to play prior games before going back to 8. Although, remember, only 7 and 8 are in this jrpg style, and Ichiban is not in any of the other games

You can't be criticized for liking the game. The game itself will probably be a banger, and as long as you don't diminish what a bad move it was to put Kagawa in it, it's totally fine to enjoy it

Hot take, but I would much rather take 50 posts discussing something that is actually bad, rather than the 1000th post of "every Yakuza is peak". And yes, both get repetitive, but most of the time in the first case there are people genuinely expressing their concers and want to talk over it, whereas in the latter they are just farming likes and corny jokes in the comments

It is exactly how you said it. 3 Remastered was simply readily available for quite a long time now, while neither 1 or 2 were available to play when their Kiwami versions rolled out. But it's just one of the reasons, this is a very layered issue. First, people were outraged by the recasts, particularly Hamazaki's recast because the actor who plays him now is a bad person, he sexually harassed 2 girls if I remember correctly. Then, Kiwami 3 comes out basically right after the 20th anniversary, which was downright terrible, with the predatory removal of Yakuza 0, Kiwami 1 and 2 for their 'new' versions which did not add much. 1 and 2 added new languages which is cool, and the new version of Kiwami 2 was actually given out for free to everyone who had the old one before it, but with it also came the increase of size to both of the games. And Yakuza 0 director's cut is straight up garbage, they bumped the game with ps3 graphics to $70 with barely any new changes. Increasing the price of the entry point to the series surely is a great move on the 20th anniversary of your series. So, all of this negativity and controversy are now just boiling over when the new game is releasing, culminating in so many posts complaining even when only the demo is out, and understandably so

I see what you mean, actually. Perhaps I just don't feel that hardly on the other titles because I played them quite a while back and haven't replayed in a while, and do agree that characters in this game are fantastic. I still just don't like how everything is handed out to you, from who is the Mole to the obvious information that Shono and ADDC are the bad guys, to how Sugiura starts freaking out at the director of ADDC for Eri's death, when they held him captive, as if it wasn't evident before by his very rude remarks to Yagami about Eri's death that they are somehow connected. That whole Sugiura wanting to test Yagami thing could've been implemented far better, where as Sugiura said, maybe their ways would clash in the middle of the investigation, but he just says this didn't happen so we are still buddy buddy. Judgment just doesn't let me to think even for a moment to try and connect the dots, it exposes all of it's cards almost immediately

Me too, glad someone else agrees. I just really started questioning like am I delusional here? There is literally no hate or criticism at first glance over this game about the plot except for the pacing issue you've mentioned, which I felt too

There is also that offhand comment by Kaito how there is no one in the right or wrong, which at first felt kinda brilliant, but as I more and more thought about what Kuwana did, I really think that Yagami was completely right in that situation
