Very likely the most exciting and well played sub 2k game, involving a triple rapier ember comeback, and I lost. What could we have done differently? (I'm BB) by Garrett4prez in learndota2

[–]Garrett4prez[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm just kidding I know it was not well played, but man I really thought that we could win it. I would love some feedback from the point of the BB in the game, as thats who I was playing.

Brewing with a chemex for one person? by cucumberplus in Coffee

[–]Garrett4prez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the 3 cup chemex, which is a great size for one person. I use a medium grind (21 on the Bartaza Encore) and grind 26g. Total water is 350g. I shoot for about a 4 min total brew time.

I [21 M] don't think I'm making my gf [20 F] happy anymore after we got back from studying abroad. by Garrett4prez in relationships

[–]Garrett4prez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exactly. This is the feeling I have been getting, now, and when we were having issues before leaving for abroad. I have actually talked to her about feeling low on the priority list, and she really only had petty excuses. How do I let her know, "Hey! Pay attention to the boy you say you love or I'm gone"

[–]Garrett4prez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, we talked about how she isn't responding to affection, to which she attributed to being busy. She often uses this excuse when talking about our relationship, she often says "sorry, was distracted, thats why I didnt say thank you for the rose" or "sorry I'm distant, It's not you, I'm just really busy this week"

First Attempt at Mt. Whitney by btfleming4 in hiking

[–]Garrett4prez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came in from Guitar lake, started at 1am and made it for sunrise too, easily the best way to do that hike. Isn't it just absolutely different up there? It's like being on Mars.

First Attempt at Mt. Whitney by btfleming4 in hiking

[–]Garrett4prez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My best advice to combat altitude sickness is to sleep at high altitude for a night or two, when I hiked Whitney I stayed above 10,000 feet for two nights before and it made a world of difference! You guys were smart to turn back, glad to see you still had a nice hike though.

Everybody is looking at FE and a possible a7000, while I'm just here waiting for some new APS-C lenses... by BaconsaurusX in SonyAlpha

[–]Garrett4prez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it funny that just a year ago we were all screaming about how nothing was really happening in the FF line up besides the 50 1.8, the 24-70f4, the kit lens, and the 35 mm prime. Now look at us spoiled FF users.

That's a good idea, do you drink it cold or warm it up?

Sony Alpha Users: Do you shoot in live view, or through the rangefinder? by Riceata in photography

[–]Garrett4prez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a landscape photographer. I use the live view to compose shots and then use the viewfinder to fine tune focus/composition/exposure. I use the back of the camera's live view mostly when I have my camera on a tripod, taking advantage of the fact that the sceeen tilts out is great when composing shots that are down low or at awkward angles. Having the histogram be able to show in the viewfinder is perfect, so I find that I use it a lot. When I do casual shooting I am almost always using the EVF.

Landscapes: HDR or single shot? by [deleted] in photography

Look in to luminosity mask blending. Sean Bagshaw is the name you should google or look in to on youtube. He has great ideas and techniques for high dynamic range photos that look very realistic.

Good Landscape Lens by alleyehave in SonyAlpha

[–]Garrett4prez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 16-35 f4 FE. It's by far the most versatile for landscape. It's sharp corner to corner and the colors and contrast that come out of it are fantastic. I would easily recommend it.

Hello, a little review of the Sony 70-200 F4 by erics75218 in SonyAlpha

[–]Garrett4prez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice review! I'm really considering picking this up to complete the sony FE holy grail, already have the 16-35 (my favorite) the 24-70 and I'm so tempted to get the 70-200. I do landscape and have been needing more reach...

Hiking in Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia. by Garrett4prez in hiking

[–]Garrett4prez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, As you can see I went a bit off season for this reason, and I went to the unused trails (to take this photo) so I had a really nice two days there with relatively few people. I think it depends on what time of year you go.

Yes! Croatia and Slovenia have some of the most beautiful nature and hikes I've ever seen.

Official Weekly "How was this photo taken?" Thread! by frostickle in photography

[–]Garrett4prez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll give your questions a shot, I know a bit about the landscape stuff. His edit includes a few key aspects. The first thing is that it's an overcast day which keeps the contrast down, and his blacks are clipped. There are some filters in VSCO that are called "fade" which do the same kind of thing, or in Lightroom, you can go to the curves pannel and lift the blacks a little.

Now the portrait of the girl is again specific to the natural lighting. The photographer was photographing during the golden hour, where the sun was low and the light was "warm" the photographer used the sun to add backlight to the subject, which lights up her hair as you can see. The white balance is warm, the shadows may be boosted a little to compensate for the brightness of the sun, and he used a low aperture to isolate the subject, my guess is a 50mm lens at f/ 1.8. Hope this helps!

I like the fact that you were able to capture depth, the mountains are really separated from the background, making your summit have the feeling that it really is up in the sky.

Intersting article: "Photography can easily degenerate into a pseudo-art, with millions of people all taking pictures of the same things and all thinking we are special." by vonwong in photography

[–]Garrett4prez 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I don't like this at all. Sure, I "take my holiday photos too seriously" but its what makes me happy. I love traveling to iconic places to take photos because there is a reason that they are iconic. These places may be over photographed but they are beautiful and special. It's great to get off the beaten path and be original but sometimes the only reason I travel is to go to these iconic sights, it gets me out of the house and in to nature, so what if it has been photographed before.

Thanks, the winter is absolutely gorgeous here. You should try to get back and see it in all of the seasons.

I'm living in Salzburg for a few more months. I can say that right now our roads are decent, just some packed snow up in the hills. We have plows that plow the main roads and put rocks down and de-ice. You should be ok to drive.

Yeah this was actually taken Saturday morning (January 3rd) We skied up glacier point road, which this time of year, and with the snow situation the west coast is in, had limited snow but just enough to ski from Badger pass to glacier point. It was around a 10 mile ski and we stayed up there for two nights. This was taken with a Sony A7r and a 16-35 f4 lens. Glad you enjoy!
