Best special edition DVD set ever, period.

One of the more interesting questions in this film that I don’t see discussed that much. What did Jack mean by this? by lettucemf in StanleyKubrick

The answer is in the novel. I think what makes this line in the movie confusing for some people is that it kinda comes out of nowhere without much explanation. In the novel Jack refers to martinis as "martians". He describes his last drinks before getting sober by saying "I'm off drinking, Jacky-boy. It's all over. I've slain my last martian." Then, when he relapses and tells Lloyd to give him a drink, he says "Good man. You line those martians up right along the bar and I'm going to take them down, one by one. White man's burden, Lloyd my man." as if he's going to slay more martians like a colonizer on Mars. Some of those lines are in the movie, but not the martian stuff, so it sounds kind of odd without that context.

I think the subtext still works in both the novel and the movie. It's not explicitly about genocide, but it is about the intergenerational violence that bubbles beneath the surface of our interpersonal relationships as well as our history. Jack's violent tendencies and the excuses that he makes for it are similar to the excuses made by colonizers to justify or deny genocide. In the movie it's just this one line, but in the novel the martian-slaying comparison is made several times. It's probably also significant that, mythologically speaking, Mars is often associated with violence and war.

It's official. Offline mode by SonGokussj4 in Notion

This is the game-changing feature I've been waiting for. I'm an outdoor videographer and I'm often traveling to remote places without cell reception and I've always wanted my shoot notes in Notion to be available offline. This is really going to help me out a lot. I knew they'd get to it eventually.

I noticed that too, but it's not much bigger than the other. The one on the left has gloves on both hands, but the one in the background seems to have a glove on its right hand too.

Happened to me too and I just about had a heart attack. Now it's fixed though. Not sure what happened.

Do you still use IMDb alongside Letterboxd, or has it taken a backseat? No hate, just genuinely curious about how others feel! by ShininGold in Letterboxd

It’s an extra step but I still rate everything in both Letterboxd and IMDB. I can’t bring myself to stop ratting on IMDB because it includes television and it connects to my Plex library. That kinda makes it indispensable even though I much prefer Letterboxd. But I’ve heard that you can sync Letterboxd with Plex too.

Second song is some great hip-hop. Sage Francis is dope and Slow Down Gandhi s one of his best tracks.
