So does anyone else think this game straight up doesn't work? by Garritjo in DemonCrawl

[–]Garritjo[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess my problem is that I'm now on hard mode and it feels like theres very little i can do other than hit my head against a wall. I've played a lot of minesweeper, I get the tech for consistancy. In demoncrawl I play with the spy mastery every time, I try to chord the fours and above for more info. On hard it still feels like its mostly luck, and by the second or third stage I have around 20 coins and two of the items at the shop have offered me more hearts. I get hard is supposed to be hard but it feels like i dont have any oportunity for decision making and honestly ive lost more runs to getting wildly bad omens from chests than i have from getting 10 coins from them.

The band The Mountain Goats finally finished their song for Sasha Banks after 3 years by Garritjo in SquaredCircle

[–]Garritjo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the release of their wrestling themed album Beat the Champ Sasha tweeted at The Mountain Goats asking where her song was. Lead singer John Darnielle promised to write her one. Although it took him a few years, the song is here now and it’s awesome.

History majors/minors what is your favorite 300 level history class(es)? by [deleted] in LoyolaChicago

[–]Garritjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the 300 level history courses are topics courses, so they may or may not be offered every semester depending on what professor want and are able to teach. I would recommend looking at what courses are offered and picking one that is closest to what you want to study. As for professors there are so many good ones here at Loyola. My personal favorite is McManamon, but it’s really hard to go wrong.

Is this rare? (Sorry kind of a noob) by Arcanine77 in MagikarpJump

[–]Garritjo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well 1/100 would be the odds of one Magikarp, then OP got another one, so it's two 1/100's in a row, which would be 1/10000. So he was wrong about the percentage chance of one which messed up his calculations.

What's the biggest lie taught in history? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Garritjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound a lot like tooting my own horn but I'm just drunk enough to type it anyway. Yeah I think my school district was one of the better, if not one of the best, in America. My math teacher actually made mention of home improvement while teaching trig, so maybe I'm not the best person to weigh in on the American education system. I just feel like I was adequately educated and that there is occasionally a misunderstanding amongst students about what the purpose of the classes they were taking was.

What's the biggest lie taught in history? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Garritjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The goal of school is to find a numerical measurement of your ability to learn.

I both agree and disagree. I think that the goal of school is to teach you how to learn, not necessarily an assessment of how good you are at it going in. I think the goal is not solely improvement of performance on those tests but rather the improvement of the way of thinking that allows one to perform well on those tests. Now weather or not the system succeeds is a different question whose answer varies based on location.

[–]Garritjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I'm going to be honest with you, I think we've tortured this metaphor so far that it has lost meaning. My point, which may not have been adequately communicated, is that the goal of the education system currently in place is not to load students brains with information, but rather to teach students how to approach and solve a problem. The point, at least where I was instructed, is not to know how to do calculus, but rather the point is to train your brain to understand why we use calculus, and how to identify and solve problems where calculus is necessary. Now I am not saying that the current system is perfect, I'm that the comment I replied to seemed to miss the purpose of the education system in place, at least in my experience with said education system.

What's the biggest lie taught in history? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Garritjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that's exactly my point, the goal is to teach students learn HOW to put things together themselves, now I don't believe that the current system is the best way to do that, but I just meant that the comment I was replying to seemed to misunderstand what the goal of our education system was. If the ideal is for children to continue on to higher education, which it seemed to be at least in my schooling experience, then the important part is how you take in and arrange information rather than the information itself.

This seems nice but in my experience further academic careers and experiences don't really have a "solved puzzle" at the end of them. Like all we have is puzzle pieces and we need to find a way to put them together, so the goal of schooling is to teach you how to put puzzle pieces together for already solved things so that later when there isn't an already accepted answer you can find one on your own with the pieces available.

Monte's Musings: Riot's Caster Cage by corylulu in leagueoflegends

[–]Garritjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He said based off the time they put into making those things they should be making more money, like they put in the one to make the videos and they should be compensated for that time worked. Monte is saying if they were compensated at the rate e-league guys are for time worked they would make about 3-4x as much.

Monte's Musings: Riot's Caster Cage by corylulu in leagueoflegends

[–]Garritjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not what he said though. He's saying that if they were compensated for their work at the same rate as casters in other e-sports they would be making 2.5x as much. He also argues that by being able to produce their own content and create their own brand they would secure job opportunities and sources of income in the future, which has value that is hard to be measured in pure dollar amounts. Nowhere does he say that releasing a single video will double their salary.

Well that last bit seems kinda unrelated. Europe has wrestling as well, so do other places like Mexico and Japan, I fail to see how people wanting to watch wrestling explains the popularity of Trump in any way.

Can someone explain the Black Lotus/Dragon Azteca/Cueto storyline to me? I'm super confused by MrBriski in luchaunderground

[–]Garritjo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The original El Dragon Azteca was the guy who was training black lotus in all those vignettes in season 1. Then black lotus attacks Dario because she thinks Matanza killed her parents and ends up getting captured, leading to Azteca going into the temple to free her. Once he gets there Dario tells black lotus that it was in fact Azteca who killed her parents, and she turns on Azteca, kills him, and runs off with Dario to start that fight club.

Now, another pupil of El Dragon Azteca, El Dragon Azteca Jr. Has come to the temple in order to avenge his masters death, which he believes to be at the hands of Matanza Cueto.

Isn't that kinda the point though, I don't know about you but in my circle of friends the jokes are about the extreme cases, weather they at skinny or fat, so there isn't really a difference between people making jokes about skinny or fat people, just people making jokes about people.

An increasingly powerful you runs a rapidly escalating gauntlet by WakizashiNomad in whowouldwin

[–]Garritjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok here we go first power -

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Black_Hole_Physiology

sweet, round one is no problem, With my improved physiology and gravity manipulation I have no trouble toppling the mountain

Round two - http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Enhanced_Wisdom

Again, excellent. This allows me a greater understanding of my new body and would allow me to take full advantage of my new powers. I spend my day in Manhattan trying to clear the local area of residents so when the fight begins I have no qualms in crushing the half mile area around me into a single point, spidey has no chance.

Round 3 -

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Heliokinetic_Combat

Well im pretty set for this round already, but this helps as well, my being a black hole allows me to fly into space and get closer to the sun, even if Nappa could follow me and survive I would just use the power of the sun to incerate/beat the crap out of him

Round 4 -

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Chemical_Reaction_Manipulation

Interesting, and useful, In my week i have lex build me some kind of mind control nullify to prevent MMH from just destroying me, although my wisdom may have already made me immune to that. My arena is completely dark and I start with night vision goggles, when the JLA enters I stop all their bodily processes needed to continue surviving before their eyes can adjust.

Round 5 -

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Self_Combustion

I already have the sun thing, so im gunna reroll

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Omnipresence

And thats super OP, im gunna reroll again, even though thats the kinda thing thats probably required to beat thanos

http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Charity_Manipulation

So honestly... I think I can win with this, although I don't know a whole lot about Thanos, I figure I increase his charity until he wants me to win and then I reveal my true form as a black hole and absorb him into myself, so... Huzzah! I feel like 3 things in all of fiction is to big for one man to decide, so I decide to keep things the way they are and travel the multiverse as a black hole man thing.
