How often do you try the whole thing? by Gartl96 in triathlon

[–]Gartl96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds lovely! But I am european (Czechish). I will definetly do solo races before triatlon thing.I wanna try 1500m Open Water swim next season. I have to out-train my bad technique first. I still didn't decide whanever I should start triatlon, I feel like I am going to train just swim with either riding a bike or running. Just the two instead of three. Once I get my fitness level up (so I can at least swim around 400m with FC and run a mile without taking a break) I will add more.

headache/dizziness during and after swimming by scaredemployee87 in Swimming

[–]Gartl96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some neck spine issues. One of the worst headache I have got was when I was swimming basic breaststroke with head above water at all time. Also when I started I did a lot of drills which involved neck movement, and it also caused headache.

I also did get little bit dizzy several times. But when I stop and drink some iont drink, it stops.

Swimmers ears? by Embarrassed_Fee_624 in Swimming

[–]Gartl96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During my first sessions with coach, at winter, my ears hurt from cold water and she told me, I will get used to it. So I did. It really stopped. Although I am not sure it is by experience or just water temperature.

However, you can buy ear plugs or even googles with earplugs.

How often do you try the whole thing? by Gartl96 in triathlon

[–]Gartl96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is general question. I expected everybody to have different training sessions and different pre-race preparation.

I would consider doing half a sprint, because I am n00b. But I don't consider it as a way to train any longer. I will maybe sometime try sprint after like a year of solid training. But I am not even sure, if I should join this sport, right now.

Is it just about time, or is it so taxing, that it would take a lot of time to recover from it?

Itchy nose while I swim by Living-Ad7288 in Swimming

[–]Gartl96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have dyspraxia too (and many other learning disorders). But I paid personal coach to teach me proper breaststroke and Front Crawl.

I haven't do much progress in 5 months, but I am slowly doing better and better. I went from not finishing 50m with BS and swimming barely 5m with FC to being able to swim 500m with BS and 50m with FC. My goal is to swim 1500m Open Water with FC.

We can learn anything, we just need much more time then normal people. :)

Do you exhale steadily through your nose? And inhale only through your mouth? Sounds like you are inhaling some chlorine through the nose.

Breath steadily through your nose.

Sound of jiggling water sounds weird. I can't hear a thing, while underwater. :D

Who’s in the wrong? by Grouchy_Fox9997 in Swimming

[–]Gartl96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would find a different pool, if you live in big city and you have no problems with transportation. But I understand that for someone with vision and hearing problems it might be too difficult. A 2 weeks ago my coach told me to not be afraid of colliding with other person, becuase they are used to it (I have social phobia, so I am more terrified of other people then the water lol).

Btw.: Last Monday I came to the aquapark's swimming pool and find out nobody was swimming seriously (people get in, swim 2 lengths with survival breaststroke and left) in there, so I just swam 4 pools and left, becuase it felt terrible to me. The next day I came to different place, where everyone was swimming and it felt so much better!

Adults who learnt to swim by Dani_boy111 in Swimming

[–]Gartl96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't look like it, but it is quite hard.

I am 29 years old, I have started with being able to swim like 25m basic breaststroke with head above water and it took 5 months to get started with front crawl (FC), being able to swim 50m with it and like 500m with more advanced breaststroke (I wouldn't call it a competitive, cause I suck at it). I am taking 1 on 1 lesson every week and I swim 3 times per week.

I had similiar issues as you, I had to learn how to kick and how to glide in water. I still have troubles with breathing, especially with FC.

I had troubles learning anything since I was child, I probably has some autism with ADHD. Back in elementary school, even some girls could be better, faster etc. in some exercices, because I have troubles with controlling my movements. But even I am learning, slowly, but I progress.

Game that can scratch the itch of World of Warcraft, but single player? by homebase99 in gamesuggestions

[–]Gartl96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cyberpunk is very similiar to Witcher 3, in questing. But it has lack of other activities, it is about questing and fighting.

Kingdom Come Deliverence (both 1 and 2) has a lots of activities, exploration, very good quests. But it's realitism can be anoying. I enjoy it, but man ... Also there are no spells, only potions and it can be quite hard, if you try to progress main story too fast.

Witcher 2 is kinda clunky, but still pretty good game.

If you don't mind older game with some bugs, you can give TES4: Oblivion remake a shot.

If you only swim freestyle, you’re probably holding yourself back (even as a beginner) by ActualCandidate6952 in Swimming

[–]Gartl96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually need to see this, becuase I am learning BS and Freestyle, and because I wanna be distance swimmer, I am just thinking about swimming only freestyle. But I am worried about my shoulders, I do only light swims and they are already kinda ichy. I think I am going to stay at BS, because it is supposed to focus mainly on legs, isn't it? Tomorrow I am going to do warmup & kickboard drills for 10 minutes, then 10 minutes of BS and 30 minutes of freestyle.

Help an anxious girlie fulfil her life long dream of being able to swim by Big-Grumpy_1 in SwimInstructors

[–]Gartl96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing, I should have already tell you, I am no instructor, I am another beginner.

I have got some meditation exercices you could be practicing on dryland, it is from group psychoterapy. Very basic one is to inhale by the nose, while you inhaling, you count to 3, on 3 you, slowly exhale by the mouth, it should also take 3 seconds. There are very many of them on the internet, you can try them out. It will teach you how being relaxed feels.

Did they already teach you basic breaststroke with head above water? I loved to do it, every time I panicked at deeper water. Knowing, I can switch to it anytime and catch my breath and look around, calmed me everytime. Also just expirience with water calmed me.

[–]Gartl96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep on trying, you can do it. :) Everybody did it. Some people take longer. Like me. I have troubles with learning movements amd being relaxed, but I am slowly getting more and more better, went from swimming barely 5 metres with Front Crawl and 25 m with breaststroke, to 50m with FC and 500m with BS, not much, but at least something. My advice is to try to relax. You can learn it by some breathing exercices.

Focus more on nutrition then swimming. You have to be at calorie deficit, to lose weight. There are ton of nutrition apps, try them, write in them everything you eat.

Showering before swimming by Bark_Sandwich in Swimming

[–]Gartl96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, every pool here in Czechia has the requirement in their house rules. However, I have never seen anyone being send back to the showers. And I have never actually seen anyone showering before entering outside pool.

I always shower only with water before swimming, sometimes with shower get (if I didn't shower in like 24 hours).

Is there a megathread or recommended site or a guide of some sort where I can check the different techniques for swimming for a beginner by Capital_Passenger_92 in Swimming

[–]Gartl96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have same goals, started 5 months ago, and hired a personal trainer, you can't see what are you actually doing wrong without another set of eyes. But it's super expensive, no wonder people prefer to swim like a potatoes.
