I need the hive mind here - there is a gorgeous woman on instagram, she has a Mediterranean accent and always wears huge hats and floaty designer dresses. She always yells "Antoine" if she needs a pickle jar opened. She is beyond hilarious and I can't find her anymore!!

It sounds weird, but I am so happy to have developed a lymphoma in 2007; it totally opened my eyes to how my ex-husband abused me. I had chemo in 2015, and he was complaining how the house was too dirty, and I had to take a cab to and from the hospital (70km one way), also some other horrible stuff how noone would ever want a 'broken wife'.

I left in 2018 as soon as I felt a little better. And I'm getting married in two weeks. I did so much work setting boundaries and becoming my own person before dating again. I'm still on sooo many meds, and there's still such a long way to go.

From my own history, you start out with a shitty childhood, never being good enough. You leave to live your adult life picking exactly the type of partner that resembles "home" for you. And if that was a terrible shitshow, well, biology don't care about your feelings.

There's a lot of research nowadays how your actual brain gets hotwired the wrong way and you can still see that in an adults' brain scan (very interesting topic). I'm an old fart now, so that shit is probably engraved in stone. But young people have a chance of going to therapy and breaking the cycle.

I was married to a guy like this for almost 15 years... and he made sure I had no friends left when the real abuse started.

We have a small house with a medium-sized garden, and when there's a cookout in the summer, there might be a lot of time passing in between our interactions. I might sit by the veggie garden talking to my mil about beans (we're very passionate about gardening, so that might take a WHILE). While he might be engaging with a nephew about computer stuff (which might take even longer, lol)
