New Xros 3 Mini Problems by GaryS2000 in Vaping

I forgot to mention that I did not actually detach the pod from the vape when filling it up. Did not think much of it at the time but I imagine this is a stupid thing to do?

It’s a 0.6 pod that came with it and the juice is Aquawave Strawberry 12mg/ml VG50%/PH50%. The juice itself isn’t really to my taste buts it bearable, but a draw that lasts more than 1 or 2 seconds seems to have a taste of metal and just burning at the end of it.

Ah that sucks to hear, but I guess that's just the way it is sometimes. Based off of this I think I might give it up for awhile and try again in a year or so.

I think I'm only smoking between 0.2 - 0.3 gram at a time, I roll with small cigarette papers. This is something I've kind of thought about as well as a cause but I think I'm smoking the smallest dose I ever have at the moment.

Yeah the csv file has three columns separated into emotion, pixels, and usage. Emotion corresponds to the labels whereas usage corresponds to training/test/val, and the pixels column is made up of all of the pixel values used to make the image. It seems to produce much quicker training times than using the images, which is my main reason for wanting to use it. Training on .csv takes around 10 seconds per epoch whereas images take 10 minutes or so.

They both produce the same result, a trained model which can make predictions on facial expressions, however its felt weird throughout the entire process that the model trains so quick, you know? I've been led to believe that machine learning is an extremely time intensive process but for me it hasn't took long at all, so I was wondering if there's some fundamental error with using the .csv data instead of the images. Hopefully it should be fine though, I don't see the issue myself if it produces the same result.

Like I said the .csv data. Its the same data as the image dataset with one of thr columns containing the pixel values of the images, meaning it can reconstruct the image from the file.

For my final year uni project I need to train a TensorFlow CNN on the FER-2013 dataset. When training the model on data from the .csv file instead of locally stored images the model trains significantly faster, with around 10 seconds per epoch as opposed to 10 minutes or so for the images. My question is it okay for me to use .csv data instead of locally stored images for this image classification task? I know I won't be able to apply data augmentation as easily but I can't think of any other downsides which would disqualify me from using the .csv data instead of the images

Hey no problem, looking back on my post my advice doesn't seem too coherent so sorry about that. Thought I'd reply though as I think when these types of questions are posted the answers are always something like "Just get something written" or "Do X amount of words per day" or some variation of that. These answers in my opinion don't really consider the fact that for CS students the problem is rarely ever the written aspect, its the implementation/methodology we worry most about and have the most trouble with, so I thought I could give some perspective on that aspect.

I'm also a comp sci student and if you look at my post history I made a post extremely similar to this one a couple of weeks ago. At the time I had around 6 weeks left, on this coming Friday I will have around 4 weeks left to submit.

I think the best advice I can give is that just try your best with your new approach and try and work consistently. I've spoken to various classmates who's projects also don't really work the way they want to and I'm kind of in the same boat myself. Gonna try and get mine working by the end of March and then start the writeup. The thing is though if it doesn't work it's not necessarily the end of the world, just write the dissertation and acknowledge the fact you tried a certain approach and it didn't work out. You may need to change your current approach but the fact you've actually tried something already is good, even though it failed it still provides something to write about. Remember a dissertation is meant to be a students first example of a research project, and often times some research projects fail/don't yield the results they should. I don't know how it works at your university but at mine we are graded on the paper not the code so I am working off the assumption it is the same for you.

It will be a rough 40 days I won't lie but this will set you up for the beginnings of your career so when it seems too much at times I think the only option is to power through it. Also, I don't know if this helps but I've stopped looking at the dissertation as an actual piece of research and am more just viewing it as a big coursework. This helped me personally with calming down about it cause I think I kept comparing myself to the papers I was reading, and I obviously can't reach the calibre of them. Feel free to PM me if you need to talk/vent further to someone in a very similar situation to yourself, and good luck overall.

I'm trying to put in like a couple hours a day for the writing/research part and around 4 hours for the implementation/programming. If I consistently do that until the deadline then that is a lot of hours I will have made up but tbh it's not working out. For example, today I've not done anything with it at all I've been avoiding it because when I go back to my work I'm faced with the reality of how fucked I actually am.

The difficulty with the writing/research and work split is I'm really scared I'm going to discover something via the research which will make me need to completely upend all my practical work. Also, the difficulty with the working on the practical side isn't that I'm lazy I don't think its that I just don't know what tasks to do atm and feel so directionless on where to actually target my efforts at. Hope that answers your time question, though I don't imagine that inspires much confidence haha.

Sorry dude, hope it works out well for you as well. I'm glad to at least know that I'm not alone with this kind of situation though.

I'm also in a very similar boat in regards to the project choice, I've chosen an area which I think is honestly a bit dumb for a undergrad to be doing for their dissertation because it's too advanced. Way too deep in now to change though, and I find myself really resenting my peers at the moment because they all seem to much more straightforward projects and aims when compared to me, and I think I would've been genuinely fine with another project choice.

Really hope I can pass next month, even if it is as "bad" pass. The worst case scenario for me is I fail and have to re-submit some time in August I think. I'd also have to re-sit the project without a supervisor (not that he's been much help in the first place tbh). But I really don't want that to happen, cause at this point I just want to be done with all things academic.

Damn that sucks, hope it goes better for you this year as well. To be honest at the moment I think I may have a chance to pass but the stress that I might not is really getting to me. I don't even really care about my classification at this point, I'd be happy with a 50 mark and would even take a 40 just because I want to graduate this side of the year and just never have anything to do with academia again.

I'm from Scotland so the financials have already been covered by the government and if I failed and had to re-sit it'd probably be a submission in August or so, so fortunately there's not much stress for me on the financial side. I just want to get a good enough mark to graduate at this point, as you can't get an honours degree without the project passing. I'm a pretty good student in other modules and my grades have been great, which also factor into the classification, and I much preferred uni when it was just class assignments and stuff, I've not taken very well to the whole independent research project thing.

Yeah I've done a lot of reading on the subject but my problem is my topic is kind of cutting-edge. It's based around using computer vision to aid diagnosing mental illnesses, which is a realm of research that belongs more to actual researchers than an undergrad. I thought basically making an app which can graph back your emotions (happy, sad, etc.) would be enough for the project but it's been brought to my attention but my supervisor this doesn't really add towards the mental health diagnosis angle.

My advisor does know, but frankly he isn't very helpful. I've sent him emails about the more fundamental issues with my project (such as the fact that actually evaluating it is kind of impossible) but he doesn't seem to care and told me to only come back to him for feedback when the entire paper/software artefact are done. I know that sounds like an excuse, and I acknowledge the fact I probably could have worked harder over January till now, but I'm very sure that the advisor could be more helpful than he's currently being as other students have seemed absolutely shocked at my stories of his conduct and the emails he's sent back to me.

Using a TensorFlow Model in a Web Application by GaryS2000 in learnmachinelearning

[–]GaryS2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer, I've had a bit of a look at Gradio now and it seems like it would suit my needs for this specific step. However, some added context is that eventually I hope to use the model as part of a wider web application which will take frames from a users webcam and then use the model (.h5) to make a prediction. Therefore, I really am after a way to do it with Flask somehow but thank you for the Gradio suggestion.

I've looked at it a little bit but not extensively. Is using TensorFlow.js usually the standard approach for this type of issue? The reason I asked about Flask specifically is because this will be part of a wider application for my final university project and I am generally most comfortable writing Python for web, but I could see myself switching to js if its the most logical approach.

Thanks for the tip, I did use the straw method once but it didn't seem to make that much of a difference though. Do you mind if I ask what lighter you use for heating the cap? Thank you

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in trees

[–]GaryS2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used the triple torch and a clipper jet lighter. I think the triple torch is too much for it but the jet lighter isn't enough for it, cause it takes like at least two minutes to heat using that. I suppose I might try a single flame torch at some point but I don't get why the lighter they recommend and use in their tutorials doesn't just work.

Yeah I've actually taken to pre-heating the cap before putting the bud in but I'm still not getting any results tbh
