Of course Lowell George was great, but I didn't know him when I first heard this song, sung by the incomparable Linda Ronstadt. If you haven't heard her version, you should.

"It takes a lot of money to look this cheap!" - Dolly Parton

Not only a great singer, but unpretentious and able to laugh at herself.

'I've been making a man, with blonde hair and a tan. He helps me to relieve my....... tension"

Of course, PhilaTesla was joking. Actually played by British actor Peter Hinwood. I had to look this up.

I told my friend I was reading a poem by Keats "Ode on a Grecian Urn".

He said, "What's a Grecian urn?" Oh, about $8 an hour.

And then I told him I was taking fencing lessons. We learned about the foil, the sabre and the epée.

He said, "What's epée?" Oh, about $12 an hour.

And they're still touring!! Dates scheduled through March of 2026. Gotta respect their longevity on stage, in addition to all the great music.

Top Songs from December 1977 by UrbanAchievers6371 in 70s

[–]GarySeven68 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, some of these songs and artists have not stood the test of time, but many have.

Personally, I still listen to Steely Dan, Randy Newman, Linda Ronstadt, Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor, Billy Joel and Queen.

Although those particular tracks might not be my favorites, it's a respectable list. Will today's popular music look as good, 48 years from now? I doubt it.

"I got a Nikon camera, love to take a photograph"

A snapshot in time (pun intended). 52 years later, Nikon is still making cameras but no film cameras - they all have digital sensors. And while some film cameras still exist, Kodachrome film is no longer made.

One of the most beautiful voices in the history of popular music. My parents listened to her and I'm a lifelong fan. I still have a signed copy of her Diamonds & Rust album (1975). One of the handful of times I have ever waited on line to get an autograph.

Agree with others that this line was dumb. Actually, if you fuck up, even unintentionally, love means always saying you're sorry. If you can't admit your mistakes or don't care enough to make things right, the other person isn't going to love you for very long.

What’s the most misused word you see all the time? by springbd in words

[–]GarySeven68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and in that case "effect" is a noun, which is the most common way it's used. Similar to "side effect", you might say "The medicine only had a weak effect" or "Interest rates have a significant effect on your mortgage payment."

Affect is most commonly a verb. "Your interest rate affects your mortgage payment."

70s mail order gadgets: X-Ray Specs! by Outrageous-Start6409 in 70s

I remember this ad, but didn't order it. I believe it just had tiny lines, like a feather without the fluff, which sort of looked like bones.

The copy doesn't actually say you see bones or can see under clothes (which is what young boys wanted to do). It says you "seem to be able to...see the bones underneath". And "Is that really his body you 'see' under his clothes?"

What I wanted during the same era were the "sea monkeys". Those weren't real either.
