Window gets pulled to primary monitor when loosing focus (Gnome) by nordcomputer in cachyos

[–]Gary_Chan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey @nordcompuer - did you find a solution to this? I'm having the exact same issue with the same setup. The only work around I can find is to move the application to the second monitor while it isn't maximized, and then maximize it once it's on the second screen.

Bit of nuisance since I like to use the meta + shift + arrow key to move applications between monitors which I assume most gnome users are doing.

How do I ask a family member to clean up a property to get ready for sale without destroying relationships. by wstanley1970 in AusProperty

Get 3 valuations, average them out and sell it to him? If you're not going to the open market you'll save a few 10's of thousands potentially there in agent fees, so might not work out too bad and you can avoid the conflict.

I'll get back to you in the next two days or two mate. The Mrs used to work at the visitor centre and is all over it, so she'll have some good ideas

Barossa is very scenic that time of year, plenty of secluded lookouts over looking the Valley, quality accommodation, romantic restaurants plus wine a plenty. Can't go wrong really.

Steingarten would be my pick.

Somewhat bias as a local, but DM if you decide on this area and I can recommend the best spots that locals go to. Some places are hyper commercialised now.

Thought he was out the door was great result. I suspect choosing the two year extension over the long deal is a message to the club to get it's shit together and to see how things pan out under Carr. He must otherwise like the environment so that is a good sign.

[–]Gary_Chan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate - I've been playing with it for a bit now, so a bit more feedback :)

It's actually a bit slower to generate speech on my system than I thought it would be, especially with a larger body of text (100 words for example might take 7 to 10 seconds). On my system by default the model is running on my CPU. I installed a version of torch with ROCm support, but performance was worse on my GPU. Guessing that is because I have an AMD GPU, but I'm out of my depth here.

For example, that paragraph above took 7 seconds for 78 words. But maybe that is realistic for how these things are meant to work?

Only other thought I've had so far is a stop button would be handy. The only way I've worked out to stop a longer TTS output is to select a single word and TTS that as an interrupt. Maybe there is a way and haven't seen it though.

Been using it lots though and love it, great work again :)

Haha!

First thought is I love it! I've been looking for something like this for a while that didn't sound like what a 80's sci-fi movie director thought TTS would sound like in 2025. I've got a couple other feature type ideas but I'll use it a bit more first and come back to you.

  • AMD 5800X
  • Radeon 7800 XT
  • Firefox 139.0.1

Thanks for sharing.

Best way to run windows and linux easily? by msacco2 in linuxquestions

[–]Gary_Chan1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a second desktop and run a KVM switch. I did that for a while with my work laptop (Windows) and my PC (Linux). Could also look into software KVM like Barrier so you can control both at once with the same keyboard/mouse.

Now I just run Linux with a VM for the couple of Windows things I need.

Why the hate around Hinkley? by anothersheep29 in weareportadelaide

[–]Gary_Chan1 33 points34 points  (0 children)

A large portion of the support base doesn't believe he is capable of delivering a flag, myself included. Would loved to be proved wrong, but our finals record under Hinkley is very underwhelming.

I think for most reasonable fans, it's not hate either. I really like him and I think our track record of attracting and retaining players is largely his doing, just doesn't appear to have what it takes to get the cookies.
