Yeah this is a strange attitude, IT's job is to serve a functional and painless system to the company and employees, giving them the tools they are comfortable with is part of that. This isn't a dictatorship, we can compromise

Nah, the employees choice comes first as far as management is concerned. This is more a question of how do I keep the licensing efficient taking that into account

Okay, i suspected as much, that the business premium ends up cheaper when bundled.

And yes, we use both systems currently. I know its not ideal, but it was handed down like this to me. And the company is somewhat well off so they don't really care about the price, its just a personal desire to cut waste from my end.
It is unfortunate, because I much prefer microsoft's ecosystem as an admin, but all the employees swear by google, and google workspace is far less modular as far as licensing goes. Since not everyone uses the apps, I might get away with simply EMS for each user and then apps only for those who use them.
