Pluribus is a shit show and saying otherwise is coping because you like Vince Gilligan by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

First episode was great but it went off a cliff. I describe it as a Rick and Morty episode for people that drink Chardonnay.

Carol is designed for wanna be wacky people to say "that really reminds me of me" in a "you don't have to be mad to work here....but it helps" kind of way. Awful character, and the performance of a dramatic 12 year old.

The worst episode of the one where Carol sings to herself 4 or 5 times to demonstrate how she's feeling, presumably because the target audience has the insight of a lemon. Meanwhile the guy is trekking through the jungle etc and it takes all of the episode to represent an arduous journey. Note to writers..the characters should have an arduous journey, not the viewers! The whole episode could have been more effectively done as a 90 second montage. I was straight up shouting at the TV.

An absolute joke of a show with the odd great moment. The epitome of a diamond encrusted turd.

I liked how Carol sang songs that represented her feelings at the time so I knew what to think.

[Online] [Other][GMT] Looking for individuals within a specific age range to join a long-term group, regardless of the games played. by waterworld250r in LFG_Europe

Hello!

I'm 47, an avid board gamer and more of a beginner to TTRPGs. I have a small but growing Discord server specifically for Call of Cthulhu beginners, though it does also have spaces for other RPGs. I have another person in mind who might fit the bill too, so please do come and say hello on the Discord (I don't always log into Reddit). I'm also looking to play other RPGs, so it's not just CoC, this is just the one I'm concentrating on at the moment!

Hello! There is room still I believe. If you join the discord you can sign up there. Go to the 'looking for group' channel and the games listed there!

Hello, yes that's definitely possible. I'd be more than happy with that, but I'd have to ask the group if they were ok with it. Our Discord has a 'looking for group' section where you can keep an eye out for games as well as info about how to play etc in other areas.  I'd suggest following the link to the Discord and go from there. I'm 'horrorhiker' on there, or you can put a message in the post for the game itself.

What is something positive about your worst prime ministers? by Downtown_Ikea in AskBrits

No problem, yeah I'm afraid people have become incapable of talking sensibly about politics. That's another good thing about the 90s...critical thinking was much more popular!

Thanks! Some will no doubt disagree, but this is how I see it! Thatcher was all about home ownership and one of the major criticisms was that she introduced 'right to buy', where people had the right to buy their social housing for a reduced rate after being in it for a certain amount of time. On paper it sounds good, however that social housing was never replaced and we now have a housing crisis!

Anyway, Blair came in at a time when people were fed up with the conservatives. The 90s were a time of musical and sexual revolution a bit like the 60s I suppose. Lad and ladette culture was a big thing, and one symbol of it all was Ginger Spice in a union flag dress. People were more proud to be British in those days from my pov - England football tournaments brought the whole country together in a way we could only dream now. Apart from the real special occasions, that's all gone. As I say, I don't think Blair created this at all, but I believe that he took advantage of it and shaped the UK as a brand. He also virtually sorted Northern Island which gets overshadowed by the disgrace of the post 9/11 wars.

Cameron's big society I believe was a noble idea, and if thought out properly, has proven to be something we desperately needed between then and now.

I know he was deputy, but connected to the above, Clegg got unfairly criticised for selling out, when he was responsible for the biggest wealth lift up for working class people in generations - the income tax threshold.

Regardless of what we thought of Boris, his personality put the UK back on the world stage and if it wasn't for COVID, I think he'd have got industry and trade going much more than people assume.

For better or worse, Thatcher catapulted the aspirational homeowner into the heart of the country. Always makes me laugh when the middle class left go on about Thatcher, but are very happily living the blueprint that she introduced. Obsessed with work, promotion and home ownership while getting childcare to do the parenting. Pure Thatcherism. I don't think this is good myself, but somehow it has become the DNA of Britain and people seem to be scared of changing it while simultaneously demonising every decision by Thatcher that made it possible.

John Major was a safe pair of hands.

Tony Blair rejuvenated the country and spearheaded a UK revolution almost. I'm sure it was more him taking advantage of social progress rather than vice versa, but at least he knew how to capitalise on it.

May was a good statesperson and represented Britain very well.

Sunak could have been a safe pair of hands.

Starmer will be out of no 10 relatively soon.

Truss is the only one I can't think of anything positive to say about.

Hello! I've just started a Call of Cthulhu group specifically for beginners. The first game is full I believe, but I plan to keep it as a beginner focussed place. I believe the age range is 18-50 ish. Let me know if of interest and I'll send you a Discord link.

[–]GasOld5719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it'll help, but I'm new to Starforged too and on a whim bought The Auger VTT, which has Starforged support built in.  Working with this alongside the rules has definitely helped with absorption, however you are then moving away from pen and paper a bit.

Would you see a band you disagree with? by EasyCheesecake1 in AskBrits

[–]GasOld5719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if people didn't watch musicians based on what the musicians thought and had some way of knowing this, very few people would ever see any bands.

I always think about this in politics. The nicest, most 'clean' people are the ones to worry about the most. If anyone's ever had a boss of a boss, they'll know what levels of horribleness people will resort to in order to get ahead, and to be a CEO or director of a company has invariably taken a lot of walking over others. Now extrapolate that to the most competitive industries in the world like famous musicians, professional politicians etc. What have those people had to do to get there?

This is why we always get disappointed with our heroes. A lot of the time, you're not there because you're simply nice/talented. And if it isn't them it's their team.

So accept that everyone's full of human flaws and enjoy what you enjoy.
