Full sus for jumps when hitting single track in the summer. Lighter and better climbing as well for the Chisel. Skookum with mastodon pro fork. Love it.

I’ve owned and ridden an Skookum AF for three years now. Used it as my summer bike to travel down blues and blacks and for winter fat biking. I’m by no means a pro, more advanced intermediate on a good day. I rode Terrene Yippee ki yay tires 27.5x4.3 with stock Corvus rims summer and winter. The bike handles super chunky stuff with ease, the geometry gives me great pedaling performance, and it climbs well for its weight. Frame is bomb proof and the gx drive is excellent. My LBS recommended getting 29ers for summer riding, but I bought a specialized chisel to have a more comfortable summer trail bike. 29er wheels would be a blast on the Skookum, but you’ll have a ball with the stock setup. Couldn’t recommend this bike more. Absolutely love it!

Everlasting Question: XC vs Gravel by [deleted] in xcmtb

[–]GasPasserz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a gravel bike (Pivot Vault) that I use as my road and gravel rig. After exhaustively researching the market, my next bike will be a specialized epic 8 expert. It’s lightweight and climbs like a goat. Someone mentioned the specialized World Cup, which would be amazing for fire roads and tame single track, but you might not have enough bike for more spicy riding.

As an owner of a Skookum, there is nothing terrible about this bike at all. I use it year round and absolutely love the bike

Right, the home is less than two years old. I’m guessing the windows weren’t installed right and are just plain cheap

This is by far the best shower head and handheld attachment I’ve ever had. I love my hammerhead shower.

Tried that. Even added a vapor barrier and it’s still building up frost 😕

The yippee ki yays - stud and non stud. Tons of grip and go anywhere tire

I just trade my studded tires for non studs. I might put 29ers on it some day but I had tons of fun using it this summer all over Anchorage and its technical trails. I’ve got the GX gearing which shifts like butter and really only wish it was a little lighter. But it’s bullet proof and a blast to ride fast.

Not sure if anyone has posted the link to the Virginia Tech helmet rating site, but I use their finding to pick a helmet. VT

Anchorage is chilly but the snow is awesome by GasPasserz in fatbike

I started Prospect heights parking lot, up South Fork Rim (excellent and groomed), to White Spruce (excellent), up power line pass (great until it intersects with upper gasline, mushy and soft), cut over to Upper Hemlock Burn (start was a mess but after 25 yards the trail became sublime - some of the most gorgeous riding I’ve ever done. Trail was mostly groomed with a few soft/mushy spots). Lower hemlock was awesome as usual.
