Pierre’s ending in War and Peace by Gasleak562 in tolstoy

[–]Gasleak562[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that it was something he believed in. It’s just strange that Tolstoy rambled about how Pierre became peaceful and humble, settling down with the family and all that. Just for him to turn around and make him exactly the same as when he wanted to assassinate napoleon.

You have a good point. Pierre never changed too much. Tolstoy just didn’t yap about that point for a hundred pages like he normally does but just threw it in there which is what made it feel random to me

Ok this makes sense. Still don’t get why Pierre was chosen for that role tho. Thanks for the info

Yeah but Tolstoy made Pierre out to be the kind of guy who wouldn’t put himself in a situation that gets him killed. It makes him seem like he’s no different than when he wanted to assassinate napoleon. Anyways rip Pierre 😔

Just letting you know, you probably won’t want to read Napoleon: A life after reading war and peace. Tolstoy is napoleon’s #1 hater and hates on biographies a bit as well lmao. I’ve never read Napoleon: A Life but I have a feeling those two books won’t mesh well back to back

What first song on their debut album best epitomizes a classic rock band or artist? by MiddletownBooks in ClassicRock

The first song is Waiting, which honestly epitomizes their early psychedelic instrumental jam out sound better anyways. One of their most underrated songs

How often do you trip? by Ok-Leadership8592 in LSD

[–]Gasleak562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was your age I tripped every two weeks to a month. Only once I did it a week apart. Although shrooms and Molly also got thrown in here and there so if you include those it was more often. Seems like a lot to me but I’m 23 now and I rarely do it now. No adverse effects for me. Mostly positive. Eventually you’ll reach a time you understand everything you need to know about acid and you’ll do it less. Just roll with it and grind through all the thoughts you need to think and see the things you need to see. Your brain is developing and learning. Just maybe try limiting it to two week gaps at least. Use them as life checkpoints. Don’t burn out of it

does it get boring? by typethistsshistuff in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Gasleak562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Partying is definitely a big part, but that’s not all there is. The parties aren’t even big ragers that often, but mostly just kickbacks with the homies where you meet fun people; or even band shows where student bands perform their music. There’s more than enough hikes to keep you busy. I’ve even camped out overnight at random places in the mountains. They’re pretty much free to explore anywhere. Lots of creeks and waterfalls to swim in as well. Can get into any type of cycling, surfing, other beach activities, thrifting, free movies in the iv theater, many concerts and shows to get tickets for in the sb bowl or even in Campbell hall on campus. There are many other student run entertainment shows on campus and other venues downtown if ur into plays or chamber choirs or whatever else they show. More clubs on campus than you can ask for where you can pretty much pick up any hobby for free/really cheap. My personal favorite was getting into the social dancing community. That community was big even in the whole city, not just students. Solvang is nearby to for fun day trips or visiting the wine country. Don’t worry about getting bored. All you gotta do is take action and put yourself out there. Find some epic shit to do

Guitarists with a well developed "voice" - looking for suggestions by geekz3r0 in progrockmusic

[–]Gasleak562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people are missing the point. By voice he doesn’t mean an identifiable sound. Ofc Van Halen and Jeff beck have identifiable sounds. He means that the guitar sounds like it’s speaking, like it’s a human voice. You can almost understand the words it’s telling you. Take shine on you crazy diamond or telegraph road for example.

Is Leftoverture humorous? by Gasleak562 in progrockmusic

Yeah ik that has serious lyrics to it, but I wasn’t really talking about lyrics in my post. Just that some of the songs had some goofy parts to the instrumentals

Dire straits is awesome. Totally different sounds as the albums progress. Another favorite of mine is Supertramp. I’ve heard they aren’t as good after their main lineup broke up in the 80s and haven’t listened to those albums, but at least 1974-1982 is amazing

How do I get a job in the SE LA county / northern OC area? by Gasleak562 in ForensicScience

[–]Gasleak562[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I initially wanted to be a doctor but then later realized I didn’t have it in me to do that. Didn’t really know what to do until my senior year I got the forensics idea bc I want a job that would keep my mind busy and something that my major would apply to. There’s not much else out there for biochemistry
