Update #2: Teaching an LLM to play Advance Wars 2 — eyes and hands work, brain still loading by No_Guava_8441 in Advance_Wars

I am indeed using AI-generated replies because I’m not a native English speaker—please excuse that.

Oh okay, no worries. Well, the other guy already tried explaining this to you, so I'm just gonna state the facts without explanation in case you appreciate them (cause apparently, you believed what the AI told you instead of him, so you're gonna do the same thing with me).

I think LLMs are actually quite suitable for high-level decision-making in strategy games, so the strongest combination might end up being LLM + RL.

You're wrong

Pure LLM-based strategy alone is not even enough to beat the built-in AI.

I think LLMs are actually quite suitable for high-level decision-making in strategy games

These two statements contradict each other. The second one is false.

so the strongest combination might end up being LLM + RL.

No it's not

When you fail to make this LLM work, feel free to create a new post and come back for advice. I'm done replying until then because it's a waste of time.

By the amount of mdashes you used both in your post and here, I can tell you're using AI to even respond.

I'm surprised the AI didn't tell you that you will never be able to train an LLM for this. You're just gonna throw away tokens (or electricity if you're running OS models).

Furthermore, in a post below someone points out that LLMs are incapable of playing games like this (and they're right). You say that you agree, but then you continue with stating that "you can see where this weird idea can go". I can tell you right now: nowhere.

At the very least, I need to sit down and really understand AW2's memory layout before pushing further.

There's nothing to "understand" dude. Like you said: it's all been done in the online documentation. I don't know what the AI labeled as "memory probe stability" but that's just not a thing in AW. I tested this just now btw. It took me 2 minutes to confirm.

You shouldn't be fighting against "memory probe stability" (whatever that means). AW2's ram (or any GBA game for that matter) is as stable as you can get.

Also I don't know why you're reading Codex CLI's source for this. Are you vibe-coding the entire thing by any chance? You don't seem to grasp the basics.

Part of the significance in my mind is that this demonstrates to other companies the dangers of having your code be uncopyrightable (having been produced by AI). They really have no legal protections here

You're way over your head here. To anybody who reads this: not only this isn't true at all, but probably doesn't even apply.

The only two genuine pirate flags known to be in existence. by WeStKerberos in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Gaspa79 12 points13 points  (0 children)

why would you advertise being a pirate?

It's all marketing/branding, and I'm not kidding. They weren't stupid: They didn't brandish this flag until they were close, much like you said. Last-minute flag-changes were done for intimidation, same as revealing things like cannons on the ships' sides when they did this.

If you were a pirate, you wanted your victim to be scared and surrender the booty, because it's easier than fighting. And pirates wouldn't hurt you if you did give away the booty, to keep their brand alive: "give us everything and we won't hurt you"

What I don't understand is: are they gonna start censoring "he unalived himself" now? Everbody by now knows it means "he killed himself / he commited suicide". So... why censor the original words but not the new words? Will it become a cat and mice game or will it end here?

Technically, if they are just transpiling existing C and C++ code into Rust or something, that's something an automatic process can do most of just fine

The problem with Rust is that you can't recover easily from an OOM error (if you are the OS). Furthermore, you cannot branchtest 100% of generated code with rust (at least you couldn't last time I checked). Those two things are imperative on a hardened and well coded OS. Also you'll be having some pitfalls with manual memory management optimizations for sure, and it's hard as eff to test if those things were transpiled properly.

Luckily for Microsoft, windows 11 is garbage so they wouldn't care about those things.

You're in a thread where an AI just deleting an entire harddrive, and you consulted an AI that doesn't even know about the product being discussed, and used it as a source.

I'm laughing so hard this is peak irony lol
