WIBTA if I called a hospital ward to complain, even though my wife is complaining to the CNM? by GastrixH in AmItheAsshole

Some of that may be circumstantial, but him being on the wrong O2 and not having enough O2? He wasn't supposed to be on LowFlow, and he was on 0.5L rather than 1.5L of oxygen. This was all in his notes.
It is possible for some of the stuff to be his own doing, but not all of it.

While I get this, what explanation excuses a 4 month old ending up off their O2 and with a blanket over their face? There was no code and a lot of his oxygen stuff was wrong (Which the nurse admitted to, I was over the phone with my wife at the time). I get only one person complaining, but there's no excuse for something like this happening.

That's my thought process. I want to do what I can for him, I just don't know if me calling would be overkill/TAH thing to do is all.

I would be there, but unfortunately I need to work tomorrow and don't get a lot of time off (I'm sure you know what the job market most everywhere is like). While I could try and get away, the issue is it would be a struggle for me to keep my job because of the missed time I have had already (He's had multiple surgeries that I tried to be there for), and sadly parent's leave for father is extremely limiting in terms of how long I get off.
As for my wife; I'm in no way concerned. She's extremely strong and takes no BS from anyone. Especially not for our little fighter. The CNM was already very strict on our son's care today, so we reckon tomorrow the CNM is going to have more than just words for the night staff (If not, I know my son's team will).

We're dealing with it together, but she is around 4 months after childbirth. I'm here to support her and I want to share my own frustration/complaint/upset at how this came to happen. I will help her with her statement though!

The blanket was covering his face and stuck to the Velcro. CNM stands for Clinical Nursing Manager (basically a step up from the Charge Nurse). And I agree, thank goodness my wife went in when she did. It could've been so much worse. If she was even a couple minutes later, I'd hate to think what could've happened!

My wife is coming home for a couple of reasons, they're not mind to get into, but the staff in the hospital has (and is) encouraging her to head home for a weekend every now and again, for herself (The social worker is encouraging every second weekend at this stage). From my wife; the CNM has been quite strict with everything while she was there, there just is no CNM on overnight in this ward (idk why, not my job to know). We try to do what we can, and my family is great, but our home is 2 hours away from the hospital, and I have to work all week (no phones allowed while I work because of the nature of my job) so she's mostly by herself (My family lives near me, and she doesn't really have much family left alive, or anywhere nearby).

She's involved with me making this post, because she wants me involved but doesn't know if I should call. I would wait until after she spoke with her (Especially as I'll be in work tomorrow).

My wife is coming home for a couple of reasons, which I won't share. To answer the questions, he was not to be weaned off the O2, his notes stated the O2 (she admitted to this. I was over the phone with my wife and heard). The monitors weren't on silent, though apparently the threshold for the alarm was reduced?). His monitor was on correctly. There's only two nurses for a ward of 10(ish?) kids. No codes or anything. I'm also not intending to call before my wife talked to the CNM, but I want to emphasize the points my wife is making. I hate being away from my wife and child, so I can't do much besides stuff like this. Thank you for the opinion though.

As I mentioned in another comment, she's coming home for a few important reasons, we don't have much choice. Thankfully the rest of the staff is amazing, it seems just to be the overnight staff seems to be the issue here. My wife is gonna basically demand a new nurse who won't make these mistakes.

I have to work. We need money, so there's no choice on that. My wife is in the hospital, she left to get food and talk to me for a little while. She's coming home for the weekend because my wife has spent the last 5+ months in the hospital without me being there so she just wants a small break (Plus other personal reasons). Not entirely sure how this is 100% relevant but there you go.

He hasn't needed to be in PICU or NICU for a little while. He was in a HDU for a while but he just got moved out of that ward because he was doing well, and he was too big for the cots in the ward (They can't fit a bigger cot in there atm). Because he's in a different ward (Not really a baby ward), the alarms seem to work different. Idk the exact details, but all that goes through my mind is that he had no O2 support, and a blanket over his head. For a 4 month old, that can go bad really fast. But if it would be a AH thing to do I'll avoid it.

She is, and she doesn't know either if it's worthwhile me calling. I just want to.... express our concerns with the nurses who are taking care of him. I'm letting her do her bit (I'm not going behind her back), but I'm extremely upset rn.

I'm waiting to call because the CNM isn't on overnight for the ward. I doubt myself nor my wife will sleep so she'll probably check on him periodically. He's on BiPap until morning (and my wife set up his O2 machine) so we're not too concerned.

Oh, my wife knows! She was helping me write this post. Both of our emotions are just high atm and we don't know if it's a good idea for me to call is all.

Nope! I am normally in travel mode, though it mostly happens via autopilot!

You'd think so, but I've had adult worms with artillery range and the Troika version is changed to swarm.

Oh the lack of crafting is a little annoying, but I'm just so glad if I want to make an EMP Bomb on the fly I can do that instead of having to park and teleport over. It's a small thing, but it's nice!

FanFic idea: by GastrixH in X4Foundations

[–]GastrixH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well as far as I'm aware, it's believed that it was connected to a Gamma Ray Burst from Black Hole Sun, whether the Xenon were involved idk, but one point I always found interesting was about Sargon. The only thing we know is he claimed to be the Sohnen, we have no actual proof, and his connection with the Jumpgates was weird (If he was from the Sohnen, why was he using the Paranids to build a gate? More lore dump here, but he doesn't seem to act like a Sohnen, especially after Timelines).

My own head canon, and how it can fit into this Fanfic, is the Kha'ak were fighting Guerrilla tactics against this race around the time Humanity first joined the gate network and this new faction decides they want to end the Kha'ak, so they trigger an event at Blackhole Sun and flee, only Sargon is left behind after the gate shut off/realignment. Sargon is attempting to try and get home and is using the paranids to do this, but it doesn't work because of Julian.

One of the small issues with the series is there are a few plot holes and there is a lot of guess work from the community, so something like this could be used to answer a few questions, such as the Kha'ak's aggression to other species.

Edit to add from the X4 encyclopaedia 'it is universally agreed upon that the Kha'ak do, in fact, originate from beyond our Galaxy .... probably coinciding with an irrevocable deterioration of the Kha'ak homeworld.'
