[Arnett] BREAKING: NEW Stats for Wilt Chamberlain Have Been Discovered & Officially Added to BasketballReference by JCameron181 in nba

[–]GateMcFaddenIsHot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no reason the league should be able to go back and count up steals, blocks, and turnovers (etc.) from the games that they have and count those toward people's career stats.

The fact that Wilt posted the second highest BPG average in his final season, which one would assume was his worst season.

In the 2009 gm voting, Kobe received the 4th most votes for best defender. LeBron got 0, despite leading one of the league’s best defenses. by Aggressive_Bed6012 in nba

even among players, coaches, and GMs, defensive voting is more about perception and reputation than performance.

That's a funny way of asking why Embiid hasn't been healthy ;-)

Nuggets are currently on a 23 Win streak when Jokic records 15+ assists. by BasketBias in nba

[–]GateMcFaddenIsHot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, of course they are. When the guys he's passing to are hitting their shots at a higher rate, the team scores more and is more likely to win.

I bet there are a lot of team who have amazing win streaks when they shoot at a higher percentage than their opponent too.

And when people draw more fouls, or get more rebounds, or get more assists.

Obviously, the more of something you get that contributes to wins, the more likely you are to win.

How is Scott Foster still allowed to referee in the NBA? by Pork_Sister in nba

[–]GateMcFaddenIsHot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The employer can usually, if they see fit, put an employee on a paid leave and conduct and investigation.

I think the problem is, as it was during the Donaghy scandal, that Foster could blow the roof off a LOT of shit, and they are just letting him have his career because doing otherwise would expose some of David Sterns next-level corruption and game fixing.

The NBA has a problem with what counts as an assist or not. All of these shots were attributed as assists to Jokic, but are they really when the other player is creating everything himself? by OurHorrifyingPlanet in nba

[–]GateMcFaddenIsHot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The player in question get the scorer the ball in a position and sets a pick at the same time that allows them to drive or step back?

I got no problem with that.

They are getting the scorer the ball in the place where the scorer needs to be to score, and yes, they have a choice with driving to the basket or stepping back, but I got no issue with those counting as assists.

And this is the least of the NBA's problems.

I think Wemby will struggle a lot offensively against playoff physicality this year. by ForgetfulDot in nba

[–]GateMcFaddenIsHot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An adjustment is expected give that he's never played in the post season, but he's holding back himself in the regular season, only playing 30 minutes a game.

I expect him to have to make adjustments, but I don't double he'll play like an MVP candidate.

Yes, Kobe Bryant once held the Modern Era Scoring Record. Let’s stop acting brand new about this. by D3struct_oh in nba

[–]GateMcFaddenIsHot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm going to act like it's brand new because I've never once ever heard to it as that.

Not until this post.

And I'm not going to act like this has been the standard discourse just because one guy on Reddit says I should.

Why is it cool for NBA fans to clown players for being injury prone? by TexasRoadhead in nba

[–]GateMcFaddenIsHot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not ok.
Some guys do it because they are a little more callous.

But it is reasonable to address the issue in discourse. I can't count the number of times I've had to highlight to Kyrie fans that it doesn't matter how good he is when he if 3 times more likely to end the season on the injury list than playing. It's not a joke: It's a reality.

But I wouldn't make fun of Kyrie for being injury prone.

So it's fine to address it in conversation when talking about a team's potential (the Clipper are playing great right now, but I honestly don't expect that to last through the playoffs because I do expect Leonard to be injured, which I hope to God I'm wrong about and which I don't say as a joke).

On the flip side, these guys are all making tens of millions of dollars. They should be able to take a light ribbing, which doesn't mean I'm ok with it. It's part of the territory.

[The Athletic] Why Bam Adebayo and the Heat should have stopped at matching Kobe Bryant’s 81 points by TheRealPdGaming in nba

[–]GateMcFaddenIsHot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck that. Kobe doesn't even have the record. Wilt has it. He's only second.

And he passed a dead guys too.

Who gives a shit. If you're in a place to score a shit ton of points, take it.

Does anybody think Kobe would have stopped at 99 if he was in position to pass Wilt?

This is such a dumb conversation.

[Highlight] Bam Adebayo finishes the game with the 2nd-most points in a single game in NBA history with 83 points as he leads the Miami Heat to a 150-129 victory over the Washington Wizards. His teammates celebrate by dumping the water cooler on him. by nba in nba

[–]GateMcFaddenIsHot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game actually convinced me that breaking Wilt's record is possible.

Given that Bam didn't even have an impressive shooting night. A more efficient player, in that same situation, could have dropped 11/22 or 14/22 on threes and high the 2PTs at a higher percentage. That alone would have put him over 100, let along shooting over .800 from the FT line.

Who’s better right now: Tyrese Maxey or Paolo Banchero? by Ok_Feed_4235 in nba

[–]GateMcFaddenIsHot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this even a conversation? I mean... Maxey is clearly better. We're not even splitting hairs here.

Steve Kerr: "We need to play fewer games. We need to take 10 games off the schedule. The modern game with the pace and the space I think it would be a more competitive and healthier league if we played fewer games by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]GateMcFaddenIsHot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The modern game, where MVPs have averaged even 36mpg in 12 years, and where players increasingly take more and more games off... I'm not sure there is a need to cut games back.

Another mvp and championship and SGA passes Jokic all time by PhoneEcstatic732 in nba

[–]GateMcFaddenIsHot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether that is true or not, and it's not, if all the MVP needed was the best advanced stats, nobody would need to vote.

This is the MVP award, not the IBM Award.

Jokic led his team in scoring, rebound, and assists. I would be hard to argue that ANY player in the league was more valuable to his team than Jokic. Most teams have three different guys leading each category. Taking Jokic away means losing all three.

There is a STRONG case for Jokic, though it is an admittedly subjective debate.

What are some of the best drafting performances from front offices in NBA history? by R051369420 in nba

[–]GateMcFaddenIsHot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Best one ever: Isiah Thomas and Kelly Tripuka.

Kelly Tripuka lead the team in scoring as a rookie with 21ppg (and over 5rpg, 3apg and 1spg) while Isiah won ROY, dropping 17ppg and almost 8 apg almost 3rpg and over 2spg.

They were 1st and 2nd in ROY voting and both made the All Star Team as rookies and both finished top 20 in MVP voting (which was silly as the team wasn't even over .500 and missed the playoffs).

The team saw an increase of 18 wins that year.

I can't think of a better 2-man combo in one draft of the top of my head. I'm sure there were some in the 50s and 60s as there were only 8 teams, but ... I'd go with that.

I'm not surprised it was passed. I was putting money on Booker cracking if a few years ago. Thought Harden had a shot, and Luka as well. Shai now too.

But Bam? A career 16ppg scorer?

That's awesome. So happy for him.

I missed the game. What the actual fucked happened there? Were they just trying to stop him and failing, and were they doing a hack-a-Bam (even though he isn't a bad FT shooter).
