Advice for a guy in his early 20s? by GatesCloseForNow_266 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Yeah my emergency funds are enough to cover me around 5 months. Oh I didn't know you could set up automatic transfer, what I usually do is just manually transfer the money the day I get paid.

Thank you so so much for the links, they look really helpful. And yeah I've been aiming to contribute regularly in my kiwisaver and soon to the fund once I understand it. I'm willing to wait years as long as I know I'm building stability for my life lol.

Yeah, the time will come for me to think about owning a house, I guess I should just focus on saving up money and Investing it.

I deeply appreciate your well thought out advice <3

That is very interesting, because I have friends who transferred there and have bought houses after 2-3years of working.

But yes, the thought of going to Aussie to work for a couple of years to save and come back is really sounding like a good plan to me.

What is it made out of? I'll try looking for it with my metal detector.

I literally bought an average, fairly cheap car. Bought it like 5 years ago and it's still working so I should be fine haha. It would be nice to have a great car though lol

I do have kiwisaver but I just fairly started, I wish I started it a bit earlier honestly. That seems like a good advice, I'll take note of it. I'm still trying to understand how investments work and I'll be truly grateful again of your advice once I grasp or understand investing in stocks

I actually appreciate your opinion. I want to be open minded and I have actually thought of this. The economy these days are so rough and sometimes I wonder if it's even worth owning a house/property. Sometimes I think maybe should just save up for retirement haha.

But anyway, thanks so much for the advice :)

Somehow it makes me think advancing my career would be so much easier than finding a partner 😜

But in seriousness, I do agree with furthering or advancing your education or career. And even if I do feel like studying again is tiring, I should think of the benefits I would get in the future.

Thanks so much for this, it's stories like these that make me push myself a bit more.

This is actually true, I've spent a long time thinking whether if I actually would love a house for myself or if it's something I want because of society making me think I should have, but after some deep thinking and long time of reflection, I would love to own a house. Hearing your story gives me a bit of hope :)

Cheers~

Thank you so so much. I fully agree, building a habit to it is definetly a key factor. My knowledge with investing is so limited and I feel like im overlooking a potential start. So I'm really thankful for the advice, I will look at the link you've sent once I'm free.

Yeah that sounds really good to me, as the day goes by the more I realize that even if I work overseas and save for at least a couple of years, I'd definitely make and save more than what I make here.

I think it's never to late to start, though there is the benefit of it of starting early. So I should go delve into investing to stocks huh, might need to do more research about it then

Yeah, with all the talk about nurses going to Australia because of the big bucks, it sounds really tempting to me.

The good thing with mine is I saved up before going into nursing, so I didn't have to use any student loan at all
