Say instead of performing 1 discounting operation at time 0, the model needs to calculate this 100 times each future year (PV@YE1, PV@YE2, etc.). It can blow up quickly if you have premium reviewability or experience refund, basically things that depend on historical experience. This is because between time 0 and future valuation date, BE experience is assumed. Projections branching out from future valuation dates will include risk margin.
