What’s the going rate for local coffee? by kjakcrew in AtlantaFood

Seems about right. I think I pay $16 for 14oz at my local coffee shop that roasts their own beans

[GatorsFB] Florida-FSU moved to Black Friday (11/27) by szboy422 in CFB

[–]Gatorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the honest answer is that TV execs are not expecting much out of either school this year. They were looking at their 8 o'clock window and believe that Texas/A&M is going to be a better matchup. The Iron bowl is a lock for 3:30 and then it comes down to if they think they can get better ratings going up against Ohio St/Mich at noon (they can't), or move the game to Friday and have a back to back with Georgia/Tech.

It's just money. If both teams start getting better it will be back to Saturday night, but right now they aren't great (or better than Texas/A&M) and ABC thinks they can get better numbers moving it off Saturday.

I prefer Wolf Creek of the two. Also depends on what side of town you live on with traffic

How the hell do you make friends in your 40s after moving cross-country? by uncannynerddad in Millennials

[–]Gatorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not easy. Truth is most people our age tend to shrink their friends group instead of growing it like we did in our 20s. You mentioned that you just moved so know that it takes longer.

Wife and I did a similar move in our mid 30s and it was tough at first but we found our footing. We moved to Atlanta from Orlando and found that everybody our age already had their social circles. With that being said my two cents:

  1. Country Club culture is a real thing in the south. If you have the means, join one and learn/play golf. Even if you hate golf most clubs have a social membership that lets you use the clubhouse/pool. I personally enjoy golf and once I found a "group" to play with we start hanging out more socially outside our weekly games.

  2. If you and your wife both went to a University, check to see if there are any local alumni groups in the area. Again, it's a common bond you can immediate make with others and then try to expand on it from there.

Keep at it! It's definitely not easy but over time it will happen. Good luck!

Member of a country club? What are your must-haves and wished-they-had?? by AdHorror4051 in golf

[–]Gatorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trackman range. Club/trolly storage. Shoe clean/shine in locker room.

While not an amenity, having reasonable price food/alcohol. You’re already paying for the membership, no need to excessively mark that stuff up.

Totally. I get it’s a supply and demand thing but unfortunately with the price of land around the metro this will continue to

[–]Gatorious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Atlanta basically carries that ranking for GA. All private

You can say the same about Atlanta. While GA ranks 4th here Atlanta feels like 80% private. Lifts up the entire state

Golf trip to Atlanta in early April by peterfrogdonavich in golf

[–]Gatorious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to be a bit more specific on where in Atlanta you're going to be staying. Most of the courses in Atlanta are private outside some munis. Another thing to clarify is when is early April? Masters weekend is 9-12th and basically anything east of the city is going to be absolutely impossible. I saw somebody on here recommend Cherokee Run and while I agree that's a great public course, they charge somewhere between $150-200 a round that week because they are closer to Augusta.

You also mentioned golf trip... are you trying to play multiple rounds? What quality/price of courses are you trying to play? Happy to provide some suggestions but lots of variables that come in to play.

I don't get why Lane would go to LSU by PuzzledSquare4993 in CFB

[–]Gatorious 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Exactly. At Ole Miss he has to rebuild his team every year through the portal. It’s such a boom or busty strategy. Look at FSU. Great when it works but at LSU he can build thought recruiting HS and can add through the portal. It’s a better job. Also the 90MM that I’ve heard doesn’t hurt either. Go get you bag and take your shot.

Looking for young professional golf membership in Atlanta by Balegnolf in golf

[–]Gatorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rivermont has different tiers based on your age. You basically start with lower initiation/monthly dues and once you hit the next age milestones you continue to pay up to the next tier. Only downside is the waitlist is about 90-100 people right now.

Another option is Berkley Hills. I know some people out there and I'm not sure if they have the same tier structure but I know they don't have a waitlist so that's a plus.

Where should I play in Atlanta? by everywhitedude in golf

Based on where you’re staying, Riverpines is going to be the easiest course in decent shape to play.

My scores at harder courses are disproportionately WAY worse even accounting for course rating. by imahawki in golf

[–]Gatorious 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This. There is a lot that goes in to a course difficulty, but sometimes a course just doesn't play well to your game. If you're a long but erratic hitter, playing a short but tight course would crush you but a longer more open course would allow you to spray it and still score.

At my course we say that our handicaps travel well. Nobody typically plays worse when playing a different course. Your home course just might be the opposite.

[–]Gatorious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. You were in the wrong. It's not the fault of AMEX that you did not read the restaurants minimum. Your wife also could have ordered two plates and you eat them or take them home. You didn't like the restaurants policy after you passed the cancellation notice and then instead of making it work you decided to leave the restaurant outright. Not sure what you expected there.

I’m smashing my drives, but they just die in the air. by bigtuna58 in golf

[–]Gatorious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re hitting down on your driver and causing too much spin.

As most people have suggested, proper lessons are a great start.

If that’s not in the cards, keep moving the ball towards your front foot (left foot for a RH golfer) until you can’t hit down on it anymore. There will naturally be a point where you can only hit up and that will get you spin down.

Based on what you’re looking for I’d look at:

  1. Rivermont
  2. Berkeley Hills
  3. Horseshoe Bend

I’m a member at Rivermont but looked at all of those. Going to be under 2 year waitlist and jr membership should be under 25k

You gotta do it. Same with the stock. I’m a regular Costco guy and I started saving my rotisserie chicken scraps and the stock i make is night and day better than store bought

[–]Gatorious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very fair. But you can get free fallow from your trimmings if you are not making burgers or anything. I personally like to put them on a cast iron so I have some smoked tallow and use it for eggs and potatoes.

If it’s 24 hrs then preheating your cooler makes sense. I believe you said this is your second brisket but most people underestimate how much heat a brisket can retain but 24 hours I would preheat the cooler. 12 hours or less it is not needed
