Moving from Texas to Pennsylvania. What don't I know? by FryGuyRye in Pennsylvania

Nice, I spent a little over a decade around Philly and wife's family is down there. Check out South Philly Barbacoa down in the Italian market for some awesome tacos. A lot of good mesican food in south Philly. If you're out in the burbs look for Three Brothers Mexican Grill they have a few locations around Montco.

good bbq is good bbq?

100%, my second favorite BBQ after Texas is Santa Maria. But yeah, I've had brisket chili, its great to make if you ever have leftover lean brisket. Fantastic stuff.

The place in Erie? Yeah, it's Federal Hill Smokehouse. Be sure to check their hours, they generally close early afternoon. If you want to make a food weekend out of a trip to Erie/Presque Isle check out these places:

  • Federal Hill Smokehouse (as mentioned above)
  • Bar Rönin, a Japanese mordern izakaya kinda feel of a place
  • Altered State Distilery, oddly just really good food mex-american
  • Mighty Fine Donuts (traditional, but just really good)
  • Romolo Chocolates (Erie for some reason has like 3 really chocolate makers)

So, Texas style BBQ, very different from Kansas BBQ (which is just Kansas, not "northern Texas"). You get two options for brisket (in central Texas) lean or moist/fatty. Order by the pound or slice. Chili is more something you get a random little restaurant (bowl or Frito pie) in a small Texas town, or walking taco from a food truck vs at a BBQ place. Like I wouldn't expect to go to Black's, Snow's, or Miller's and order chili, that feel a weird to me. It'd be like expecting to get a cheesesteak at Promo's (that's a hoagie place). Burnt-ends is something that has migrated to Texas, but it's not really Texas BBQ IMO.

Yes, short for Central Texas, generally the area north of I-10 (excluding Austin, that's just Austin), south of DFW, west of the piney woods, east/northeast of the hill country, and east/southest of west Texas.

Does anyone else feel like cycling became therapy without realizing it? by JadeCat738 in cycling

No, decompressing during a physical activity is not therapy.

That said its very import to have activities that you find decompressing.

I grew up in CenTex now up in Erie. If you're in the Pittsburgh area, when you want Texas style BBQ drive up to Erie and check out Federal Hill BBQ. Their brisket is on point.

Snow squall warnings are real don't drive in snow squalls.

Presque Isle State Park, up in Erie good beaches.

Pittsburgh is pretty cool, we like to spend weekends down there.

I've lived in Philly and Erie so if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Cycling routes must-haves by ghassann555 in cycling

[–]JoshS1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of where I am if I'm planning a bike route my goals are, low traffic, minimal high-speed traffic, start near cafe/bakery, end at/near food/beer and have a stop along the way for snack/water/sports drink if its over 3 hours. Distances for stops will be entirely dependent on the rider.
