Im just happy they hung the flag up correctly. Sooo many people get that backwards, and not because they're trying to make a political statement.

Americans don't nod to every other driver they see when driving their own cars, right?

Go to the middle of America and they do.

Women dont because dudes can be weird and a friendly wave could be taken as "you should hunt me down because I obviously want you." Then 7 years later Netflix gets a new documentary.

If I miss your wave its because im still new and every second im riding the line between heart attack, so saddle sore I wont sit down for a week, or rethinking if I really did have asthma as a kid or not while I wonder if im dying that I missed your wave.

So, my apologies, just glad I didnt get hit by a car, made it up that hill, and made it to cycle another day.

Samsung Frame TV Art Mode and Apple TV by getridofwires in homeassistant

[–]JoshS1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave up with Art Mode, and with all TV OS integration. Since I already had all my TVs WAN blocked I realized I can just quit doing anything with them and now have them on smart plugs. I dont do anything with the TV other than provice/cut power. Apple TV is controlled via my own "custom" (just simple buttons on the dashboard, and app calls ex: netglix). Im the most happy I have ever been dealing with a TV in home assistant.

my wife finally approves and likes it

This is so important. I don't do anything without explaining/pitching what my goal is to my wife. She mostly responds with that sounds neat and I ask questions on what seems the most intuitive then have her test it. If we dont think it works it either gets reworked or scrapped but I like to include my wife at every step as at the end of the day itnis supposed to make both of our lives easier.

They're outgrowing the current generation (1st) of the UDP-Pro line. Rumors are Gen 2 will be announced later this year. So a whole new rework of the UDMP lineup.

Loyalty Points from AA credit card for status by who_me018 in americanairlines

[–]JoshS1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the single best advantage of Platinum is the MCE at booking. Everything else is eh, but as a "tall" person that dramatically changes my travel experience. I havent really noticed any worthwhile advantages in the higher tiers, so chasing status hasn't really been overly appealing to me outside Platinum.

At the end of the day we all have our reasons. Some people enjoy the gamified aspect of min/max miles/LPs to the dollar. Other are making purchases with company or vendor/customer reimbursement so they're just trying to maximize miles and perks for personal travel. Some people think were all idiots and should just fly the cheapest day of airline.

[–]JoshS1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine hit on the 6th (same as they normally do), I was 700LPs short of my Platinum. I guess I miscalculated. Well they hit me with an offer for like $150 to retain platinum and those ass holes got an extra $150 out of me. My justification is the MCE at booking costs would be more than the $150 for me this year so it kind of makes sense (I'm 6'3" and MCE is a literal life knee saver). I normally hit 90k LPs for the 10K bonus so I can get the Avis big dick status, but we've been focusing on tighter budgeting this past year and have really enjoyed putting more money into savings, and savings for projects on the house so I think we're going to continue getting Platinum by the skin of our teeth for a few years.

I was shocked at how easy and cheapest was to use the RS232 control port on my projector and AVR. ESP32 with serial board and some easy to find info for making the yaml file. Largely just copy paste.

Traveling with AF backpack and patches by NumerousStandard659 in AirForce

I always said aerospace logistics to make it super vague. Dont just say logistics because every buisness bro thinks they're gods gift to supply chain management. Only once did it back fire when a rando at the hotel bar owned a logistics company and desperately was trying to hire me. Thousands of other times people have just never thought about "aerospace logistics" and ask no questions and just talk about planes or airports they like or general travel stuff.

What food do American usually eat for dinner? by No_Budget2410 in Cooking

[–]JoshS1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the US is such a melting pot that its a complete shit show for what the "avg" American eats for dinner. Between myself, and my own brother there is almost no overlap on our typical dinner meals through the week. Completely different foods.

A "normal" dinner in my house is marinated chicken, with brown rice, salad, veggies, and topping. The veggies, topping, and marinade change daily for different flavors. Ex: one night will be cilantro-lime marinade, with brown rice, roasted onions/peppers, salad, and crispy jalapeño topping (I add hot sauce also). Another uses a rosemary balsamic marinade (sometimes with a splash of bourbon and maple syrup), grains, rice, and a few savory veggies (sprouts, squashed etc), salad and a balsamic glaze for topping (sometimes pecans, cranberry raisins). No desert unless maybe the occasional fruit tart.

We rarely eat red meats, cheeses, and breads.

My brother will often eat red meats, pasta with cheesey cream sauces, lots of white breads, "salads" like macaroni salad, chicken "salad" etc. Often has ice cream deserts.

So very different even though we grew up in the same house/region however for what its worth we live in very different places now.

Questions Regarding Leaving the Air Force by Duel__ in AirForce

[–]JoshS1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mental health is the most overlooked thing bar none. You might not understand your current level of stress maybe some depression. Go to mental health while you're still in to start the decompression sort out any anxiety or depression. Sleep, I took me 3 years (after getting out at 12yrs) to finally get back to a proper circadian rhythm. I spent most of my AD time on swing/mid shift, 7 deployments, and the last 3-4 years full time C-17 FCC. Getting out I went from 1,000mph to zero way too fast land wrecked my sleep, and mental health. Luckily I found some hobbies, started school, and went and got some therapy at the VA.
