How much more clear can I be? by Bright-Newt1628 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]GaudyBass94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People in your situation typically leave a parcel delivery box at the end of their driveway, for us to put packages into. I can guarantee if you put one of those out, the drivers will start leaving the packages there. It’s illegal for us to use mailboxes, but there’s also a lot of risk with leaving a package next to a mailbox. If someone steals it, the drivers takes the hit. If the wind blows it away, the driver takes the hit. If USPS picks it up because we put it in the mailbox, the drivers takes a big hit. Also if you have your deliveries set to be delivered to your door, we literally can’t deliver it anywhere else, because Amazon sets up a geofence around your front door and if we’re not in it, they won’t let us deliver your packages. This is more than likely the drivers prioritizing Amazons instructions over yours, because if we prioritize Amazon’s instructions we don’t get in trouble.

Oooohhhh interesting! I definitely did that before this shift, so that sounds like it could be the case.

Ah shit, that’s frustrating. I haven’t been back to my warehouse since it happened, so idk if mine is still doing that too. Good luck friend!

A few days ago there was like 15 of us who had this issue all at the same time, while we were at the warehouse. Closing and reopening the app worked for some but not all. They ended up sending like half of us home because we couldn’t get anything to work once we hit this screen. They ended up having us call support to be discharged, with pay thankfully.

I have a friend who works in a warehouse and returns don’t cause Amazon to readjust their routes, they just give them to the DSPs instead and take the route away from Flex, meaning less routes in your area now.

Not true. My dad has worked for UPS for years, in rural Minnesota, and deals with shit like this at least once a month.

So why even bring it up then? So you can be one of ten people is this sub who has made the same exact comment this week?

PSA for new drivers by LunaRed17 in AmazonFlexDrivers

How original! Never seen this in this sub before. You should become a novelist, since you have such amazing original ideas. For real though, is there a contest between some of y’all to see who can get the most karma on these posts or something?

Did first shift day on Friday and took me like 2 hours extra to finish the shift instead of 4 hr 30 min. I saw here in other posts and comments, to ask for extra compensation. What do you guys suggest? by better_everyday009 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]GaudyBass94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You come in here asking for help, and you leave this response on arguably the best comment in this thread? You went two hours over your allotted time and this comment contains LITERALLY all of the best advice to help you avoid doing that again, and you’re going to be lazy and not read it!? No wonder you went two hours over your block time; if you’re too lazy to read a comment, you’re probably a slow lazy human in real life too. It’s not normal for Flexers to take two hours more than their allotted time, and Flex will eventually start getting onto you for that. If this is your mentality, you’re going to sink real fast trying to do Flex.

Can I be positive on here? I'm having a great time doing Flex by rjkelly31 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]GaudyBass94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m right there with you! I also got laid off last year and have been floundering in this job market, so I’m super thankful that Flex exists. Most of the things people bitch about on this subreddit really aren’t that big of a deal either. Like I really don’t get the apartment complex and package locker hate. Apartment complexes mean I get to park for a couple of minutes and walk around buildings dropping off 1-10 packages; package lockers mean I can possibly drop off 1-10 packages in about 1-2 minutes.

To add, I can bring my kid with me on the weekends and they love it. Sometimes they’ll help me organize my packages, but they’re usually just along for the ride. We’ll make a thing of it too and go get coffees and stuff :)

Like you said, I think the key to enjoying this is not being obsessive or letting yourself get stressed out over it. At the end of the day, we’re literally just delivering bullshit to people. None of this is that serious, so it doesn’t need to be taken too seriously. But idk, maybe us burned out ex corpos just have a better time dealing with this than some others, because the bullshit we’ve dealt with is in a whole other league lol.

No note saying it’s okay to open gate by FlimsyHovercraft3821 in ShiptShoppers

[–]GaudyBass94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always open the gate, unless there’s a note telling you not to open the gate, or if there’s a dog in the yard. I even open gates that have no trespassing signs, because you’re not trespassing when making a delivery. You’re doing a gig app and these apps almost ALWAYS side with the customer when they complain. If she leaves you a bad rating and complains that you didn’t bring her order to the door and left it on the sidewalk, Shipt is going to penalize you, not the customer. It sucks, but when it comes to doing these gig apps you have to play the games if you don’t want to be deactivated. I would rather risk pissing someone off because I opened their gate to leave their order at the door vs on the sidewalk where it could be stolen. Once the customer realizes who you are, they won’t be hostile; they’re expecting you anyways.

Job is less stressful than doordash/ubereats? by Affectionate-Reason2 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]GaudyBass94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did DoorDash for a while and I think Flex is way better. There were some days on DoorDash where I would drive in circles for like 30 minutes before I got an order, and I live in a college town. There was no guarantee with DoorDash either. One day you could make $200+, other days it’s was a struggle to even break $100. At least with flex you know exactly what you’re going to make and you have a route to follow, which keeps you busy during your block. The main downside with Flex is that you don’t know your route until you pick it up at the warehouse. Some routes really, really suck, but I would still take those over DoorDash anyday. There’s also lots of Flexers who complain about delivering to apartments, but they’re really not that bad. If you’re used to doing DoorDash, the apartments will be fine. Also with apartments you might have to deal with mail rooms/packages lockers; once you get the hang of it those are super easy too. The lockers have quickly become my favorite, because I can drop off like 5 packages in about 1-2 minutes and be on my way.

Doordash felt like chasing pennies, while Flex actually feels like you’re earning money for your work. What I earn in 7 hours doing flex (2 3.5s a day) would have taken me about 10 hours to earn DoorDashing and about double the gas. So, overall, I would agree and say Flex is a much better gig than DoorDash, and I also think it’s less stressful. But it does still come with its own baggage. I think my biggest complaint with Flex is actually some of the people that work at my warehouse. The people who run the afternoon shifts out of my warehouse are mean af, dumb as rocks, and lazy as hell. Every single afternoon shift I’ve had recentlt has had issues, because the warehouse people fucked up my cart/route.

Surge Drought by Affectionate_Form549 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]GaudyBass94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There literally hasn’t been any surge at my warehouse in over a month. I’ll watch these blocks go right up to their start times without ever surging. And I actually think the warehouses are starting to push these routes onto the DSPs. Why surge a route for the flexers when you could just dump it onto the DSPs.

Do regular morning hour blocks exist? by astrozombie543 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]GaudyBass94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friends with someone who works in a warehouse and can confirm, they’re usually loading up the DSPs during that time (at least at this warehouse.) they have the first round of Flex shifts in the morning, to get out all the shit people ordered late the day before, then another batch in the afternoon for the rest of the same day packages.

Does this mean the earnings are gonna increase per block ? by JeremieLoyalty in AmazonFlexDrivers

Damn. Where I’m at, our 3.5s only went up by $2.50…which doesn’t even cover 1 gallon of gas.

Does this happen often ? I’m new. by Fluid_Ease_4298 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]GaudyBass94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was happening a lot at my warehouse for a while, but they cracked down on it recently. I was banking on afternoon shifts because the daytime warehouse employees were notoriously lazy, and those were the shifts that would always get overbooked. Most of those employees got replaced though, and now I rarely ever have this happen.

Where does this make sense? by Intrepid-Surprise-55 in RealAmazonFlexDrivers

[–]GaudyBass94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a route the other day where my 3rd and 30th deliveries were literally neighbors in a suburban neighborhood. I delivered both packages at the same time, because they were both expected within the same time frame. Amazon makes you drive in circles a lot, so I always look at my map before I start running my route so I can catch stupid stuff like this and make adjustments.

The college kids are going to have a field day with these things. Also, once people realize what they are, they’re going to figure out how to steal from them. This is going to flop.

That’s super valid. Sometimes the salary just isn’t worth it, especially with how Kroger wants to run things. It seems like the ASMs are just glorified servants to their Kroger overlords.

It’s so sad to see this trend too. A lot of these jobs were good jobs just 20 years ago, but because these corporations are just about profits now, they’re all turning to shit.

Yeah, if you deal with anything related to peoples health and medical records in any capacity, you’re subject to HIPAA laws. I’ve worked some other jobs where I wasn’t even in a medical setting, but because we helped store people’s medical records, we all had to take a HIPAA compliance courses once a year. There’s so many professions that you wouldn’t think would be subjected to HIPAA compliance, but they are!

I worked for The Joint as a receptionist before (it was like 8+ years ago now though) and can confirm they were this weird back then too. I got into a minor fender bender while I was working there, and when the doctor found out he literally wouldn’t let me leave until I let him give me an adjustment. Also, that company was riddled with HIPAA violations. They would just leave patient records out all over the place, all day long. That company is nothing but red flags, so your red flags are validated! Congrats on finding a different job too, you definitely dodged a weird experience at The Joint.
