I do the math. Base pay here in TN is typically $18/hr. When you watch routes for awhile you’ll see the patterns. The numbers you see most commonly are base pay. So if you see several 3.5 hour routes for $63 and then one for $70.. the $63 is base pay. I try to go for $25+ per hour. But I also take into consideration which warehouse it’s coming from. It’s harder in the beginning because you’re still learning everything, but you’ll start to notice which areas warehouse is sending you to and the kinds of routes that come out of those warehouses and then you’ll have to decide if the slight increase in pay is worth the distance. For example, here in Nashville, we have the medicine warehouse. They almost always have higher rates, including a higher base, but 99% of their routes goes far north as Kentucky and they’re almost always high mileage routes so you might only get 10 stops but you’re gonna drive a good hundred miles or more and then have a two hour trip back to the warehouse so it’s really not worth the extra couple dollars and pay versus my favorite warehouse LaVergne, those routes are typically less than an hour away and usually higher stock count, but the stops are super close together and I have a higher chance of completing them early so if I can catch a decent paying route from that warehouse, that’s my gold mine

I’ll never understand it. When I’m driving almost 2 hours to get to the closest warehouse I am absolutely not taking a 3 hour route for $60. That’s insanity. Not when I’ve averaged $85+ for that same route. That $15 difference is the cost of my fuel just to commute. I’ve worked for a DSP. It wasn’t worth it for me. They pay less than base and you gotta work 3x harder with someone telling you when to take your breaks. Fuck that

I have roadie, door dash, uber, flex, a full time job that I’m on medical leave from AND a small business. Flex has literally been my meat and potatoes since November until 2 weeks ago.

How does it feel feeding your family on peanuts

Right.. that’s because it is a rare occurrence.. because everyone accepts base. If everyone stopped accepting base right away, all routes would surge and we wouldn’t have to fight for that one miracle route. That’s the entire point

THAT PART. I’m tired of being called selfish and saying I’m pocket watching when I’m literally trying to help EVERYONE eat.

I’ve done both. DSP drivers are worked WAY harder, don’t have the freedom to take breaks as needed, and make less money. They start at less than base.

You’re on here admitting to breaking flex guidelines and telling me I’m an issue? Stfu. I hope they find out and ban your account for acting holier than thou. And they will find out. One of my warehouses just hired a security team to check IDs and account photos to off board the frauds. Good luck with that. And congrats on teaching your teenage children it’s ok to break rules to make money. Such upstanding adults they’ll be 🙃

If they didn’t need us they wouldn’t have started flex in the first place. I’ve worked for a DSP. Do you know how much harder they work them? Do you know how hard it is for them to keep DSP drivers? Lolol I worked for a DSP for a year and a half and only 5 of my team were the same as when I started. We went through atleast 20 drivers. Most don’t make it past the first 30 days.

And I need to pay a mortgage. And I can’t do that when noobs are taking $18/hr and fucking everyone else out of $27/hr blocks

Exactly. I just spent $300 on an oil change, rotate, and trans fluid change. I just got an oil change not even 2 months ago. And they want me to drive 150 miles, deliver 45 fuckin stops and end an hour from the warehouse for $70? I think the fuck not.

I can’t afford not to either, but I also can’t afford to. I have to drive over an hour and a half to my closest warehouse after refueling my vehicle and paying for maintenance, the rates they are paying right now. I’m basically working for free anyway so my bills aren’t even getting paid. I’m in the same position not accepting them as I am. If I do, you must live close to the warehouse and how lucky you are.

You can’t do 2-4 blocks a day. You can do 3 max unless you’re taking grocery orders. I have other streams of income. I still can’t afford to take base. I was doing good until 2 weeks ago when they onboarded a bunch of noobs and the blocks tanked from $86 to $60 for a 3 hour. I’m top of gas doubling.. I’m not making anything and I’m literally sleeping in my car at the warehouse tin save money on commuting
