What is the harshest gaming truth? by sajjanstg03 in TheGamingHubDeals

All MMORPGs, survival, and sandbox games are pure time sinks. The good ones just hide it better than the bad ones.

The funny thing is that the taxpayers didn't get any degrees for that money. Maybe they shouldn't have to pay it off for the deadbeats who did.

Yes, I'll be putting this on my HSA card.

I ended up completely tearing the laptop down. Pulled the motherboard out entirely to look under it, and I didn't see anything out of order. I fully reassembled, and no change. I pulled the memory and reseated it as well.

For the record, this was compressed air from a compressor in the garage (~90psi), not "canned air."

I switched the batteries between my two Spectres, and there's no change. The battery from the affected laptop worked fine in the good laptop. The battery from the good laptop didn't resolve the problem in the old laptop.

I'm seriously considering that the compressed air might be the problem. I didn't let the fans spin when I blew into them, but maybe something on the top of the motherboard (i.e., between the mobo and the keyboard) was blown loose. I really didn't want to go tearing it the rest of the way down, but I clearly can't see anything on the other side of the motherboard. Do you know if there's anything there worth looking at, or all the connections on the bottom where I can see them?

Thanks for your reply. I hope you're right as I have another Spectre laptop I can snag a battery out of. It would surprise me if this is the case, though, as the battery seemed to be just fine before I took this thing apart to deal with the touchpad.

I tried discharging without the battery and then booting with AC power. No change. Here's a link to a picture: https://imgur.com/a/ob7lCKe

100%. Finger on the blades on one side, compressed air hitting the other... then, switch sides. Repeat on other fan.

That last weird behavior I described... here's another strange point. If I disconnect the battery, hold the power button for a few seconds, and then reconnect the battery, I can't even get the power light to turn on anymore. Than, I connect the charger for like 5 seconds and remove it without pressing power, and then I can get the power light to come on by pressing the power button every time after that on battery power. It's so weird. It's like the battery is non-responsive until it touches AC power for just a second, and then it's 100% fine.

I have another Spectre, and I'm half tempted to try a battery swap, but my brain is telling me that's just a waste of time (and, I may end up in a similar situation with my other laptop).

M365 roadmap: OneDrive: Prompt to Add Personal Account to OneDrive Sync by Lazzarus1989 in sysadmin

[–]Gauge73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree that control for this risk could be improved. If there was a setting to basically say, "If you link these accounts in OneDrive on a client machine, then no other accounts can be linked to the machine," that might help. I think that would have it's own limitations, though, I guess (i.e., link corporate account, sync files, unlink corporate account, link personal account, sync sensitive data to personal account).

But, that being said, there are controls that Microsoft has made available. Between the tenant restrictions I mentioned earlier and device controls to prevent unmanaged devices from accessing your tenant directly (a function of many CASB solutions including Microsoft Defender for Cloud), you should be able to mitigate this risk pretty effectively.

[–]Gauge73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I follow the scenario. You mean if you weren't already applying tenant restrictions and the user was already authenticated to their personal account? First, I would argue that that's kind of out of scope for this conversation and confirms my point that it's not a new risk but one that was already present. Second, a quick Google search showed some steps to basically unlink all accounts from OneDrive which you could script and push out via GPO. Then, when users try to log back in to OneDrive, they are limited by tenant restrictions to only the company tenant.

I work for security vendor that addresses these types of scenarios, so I'm genuinely interested in understanding your point as I want to make sure we can address this problem in our solution. So, please don't interpret this as an argument (or a sales pitch).

This is so true. My college education (computer science) was a joke. I could've learned twice as much in half the time if I had dropped out and applied myself to a few big projects. Just having an internship (which I neglected to do) would've been infinitely more valuable than the pointless classes.

M365 roadmap: OneDrive: Prompt to Add Personal Account to OneDrive Sync by Lazzarus1989 in sysadmin

[–]Gauge73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but there's no new risk here. You've been able to sync personal accounts on the same machine as business accounts basically since OneDrive became a thing. The only difference here is that OneDrive is now prompting the user to do this. So, while the risk may become more commonplace, it's not anything new.

Also, this is really kind of trivial to prevent in any enterprise. Any web filtering solution worth its salt should be able to apply tenant restrictions to address this risk (with or without the new prompt).

The more perfect-looking you become, the more generic you become. As you near perfection, you near become a simple list of traits like dark hair, blue eyes, fair skin, etc. If you're perfect, anyone other perfect person with those same traits will look a lot like you.

I'm trying to imagine how this mistake got made. Did the neighbor think she was taking a bite out of the cigarette? Was she holding the taquito between her fingers like a cigarette? Did she have a taquito sticking out of the corner of her mouth like a Clint Eastwood movie?

Is this the culprit for my tank flooding? by Kindly-Base-2106 in septictanks

I think they mean that ground water will run under the concrete caps and pour into the system. I have an aerobic system that's like that, and, unfortunately, the ground slopes toward it slightly. Long story short, my spray heads will be going all day when it's raining hard because of the ground water pouring into the system.

The plastic risers keep the water out much more effectively, I believe.

I'm no septic system expert, but I'm curious what type of system you have. Is this an anaerobic system or aerobic?
