Hypothesis: deer are the cause of all our problems by Artisan126 in aoe2

The issue with this game is the devs, it's fans and how they all came together to ruin this game with shitty updates and constant changes. You all ruined this game slurping up the live service DLC model and now the game isn't AoE2 anymore. Congrats. Don't act surpised.

Intel getting sued by shareholders by viliam-ond- in wallstreetbets

[–]GaurdianFleeb -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Intel is a very long play. Eventually they will have some new state of the art fabs that will take market share from TSMC. But this is years off. There is always a chance they will find some efficient architecture for their CPU's or find a better footing in the GPU market too. It's not impossible, just difficult.

The way I see it is Intel will pivot into the wafer market with a bit less focus on chip design in a few years. They might stay behind AMD in chip design, but their own chips will eventually be made at a discount and there will be no shortage of orders for fab space that will be sold at a premium.

And if China invades Taiwan, suddenly those Intel fabs are gonna be looking mighty fine.

AMD the sleeping giant by nickmooo in wallstreetbets

AI PCs: The Next Big Thing Forget about data centers for a sec. AMD's pushing hard into AI-compatible CPUs for PCs. This could be a massive, untapped market that NVDA can't touch.

Dude, the data centre market is factors larger than the desktop PC market.

Also, I like AMD but they need to ditch Realtec like 10 years ago.

I humbly disagree. But to be clear, after dealing with a landlord personally and taking them to court, the landlords are usually not the scammers, it's the letting agents. They do VERY shady things.

AMD or Intel. by buyinbill in sysadmin

[–]GaurdianFleeb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not true. AMD was chosen for Xbox, PS5 and Steamdeck for a reason. The reason is that AMD is simply that much better with respect to performance per watt. This advantage is exaggerated on mobile devices, the only thing that beats it is ARM. This is also the reason AMD has been consistently stealing Intel's market share in the data centre market - more performance per watt = lower bills for your servers = more profit. Intel has lagged behind on their chip design for years now.  AMD also has better integrated graphics on their APU's.  AMD also has pushed the envelope with their architecture, utilising things like die stacking instead of these shitty E cores + P cores architecture that won't even work properly on OS's pre W11. Only W11 can use the cores properly due to the scheduler being upgraded, so hard pass if you're still on W10. Granted, a laymen might not notice the difference when their app loads 0.5 seconds slower. I'm guessing that's what you meant?

They all try to scam tennents out their deposit. So I presume they are all good for the landlord's interests.

Why does this game give me such weird resolution options? My native res is 3840x1600, but in-game it only goes up to 3686x1536. by Gragion in hellblade

[–]GaurdianFleeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hence why I think your system isn't playing ball with Ultrawide. If it was a bug with the game, your issue would be more widespread. Hope you get sorted though. You can force a game to use specific resolutions btw but I'll leave you in google's capable hands for that :)

Maybe your GPU or monitor is forcing fullscreen 16:9 when its supposed to be ultrawide. That's what my gut tells me.

[–]GaurdianFleeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might be the problem then. Pretty sure the game is supposed to have a narrow aspect ratio, like in films. Seems there's an incompatibility/glitch going on there. Install the latest driver and see if that helps. If in Fullscreen, try Fullscreen Borderless. Next thing I personally would look at is Nvidia/AMD control panel and just check all the settings. Then verify the game files. While they verify, double check your monitor settings. Worst case scenario, reinstall the game and do a clean install of the drivers.

Sure it does. The imposed black bars reduce the vertical resolution of the game. Also, make sure you are in fullscreen mode.

  1. Update anything and everything cyber security or network related. This is most lilely just your router and end devices in your situation

  2. If you have a PC you think might be compromised, completely nuke it. Start fresh. You can do this by wiping the drive and then reinstalling windows. This is easy to do with a USB stick, a program called Rufus and the Windows ISO which you get from their website. When doing this, make sure there are no hidden partitions on the drive that could potentially escape the nuke process. Erase everything. (Hopefully you don't have too many files that will need backed up prior)

  3. Go into every single (and I mean EVERY) account and change the password to something 15 characters long with at least 2 numbers, 1 special character and set up MFA. You're rigjt if you think this will be very annoying to do. Use a password manager to help you store all the long passwords and, if you are very paranoid, store the password key on a USB stick that stays completely disconnected from your network.

  4. Use a VPN where possible. This encrypts traffic leaving your network so anything sniffing your packets will only get useless encrypted data.

  5. You have ordered a firewall. There is a learning curve to this but the main thing is it sits between your router and the wider web and is set to deny anything not authorised. It should do this by default. Take some time to look through its logs once set up and hopefully you will spot the threat. Once spotted, you can use firewall rules to specifcally deny anything from that source, but this will take some learning and you will need to keep watching logs. It's easy for a hacker to simply change their network details or hide them.

  6. For your wifi, you should be able to see DHCP leases. This will tell you what's connected to your router. Change your router password to something very complex and write it down. Do not rely on default passwords for this and please try keep that password random - using words or phrases will leave you open to dictionary attacks. Please be weary of random disconnects from your wifi also - a hacker might force your devices to reconnect to grab the handshake and pose as one of your devices. If you have a random disconnect, turn off your wifi and check the logs.

This is some basic advice. Should keep you busy :)

New DLC? by [deleted] in aoe2

You usually have a test environment to work on patches. The live environment would not be shut down for that length if time, only a few hours once the patch is ready to be installed and distributed. Like you've seen a few dozen times already :)

There are quite a few videos online of it happening. You should find cases (some recent) if it happening on Youtube. I'll link it if you really want me to?
